Rian Johnson and the Lucasfilm story group have been working on the story for The Last Jedi for 3+ plus years. Johnson spent a lot of time during the early stages with the group and apparently The Clone Wars and unreleased material influenced the story.

For fans of the The Clone Wars series this is awesome to hear and it fits in well with the film we watched. The Force Awakes was certainly an homage to the original trilogy where The Last Jedi is an insight to the type of storytelling that was coming from Lucas post-prequel trilogy.

I can't wait to see where Rian Johnson takes this in the new trilogy.

    Third!

I went into TLJ with trepidation - worrying that the idea of the Jedi and the Force would be flipped on its head and turned into gobbledygook.

It wasn't. It was anchored in Lucas' philosophy and simply taken further. I too can't wait to see where his trilogy goes.

If his new trilogy will be all about new weird and mystical aspects of the Force then I can't wait. I love how he expanded it in TLJ, so the whole trilogy about the Force or maybe the biginnings of it? It would be awesome. I was always drawn to things like Mortis arc, so maybe, just maybe, it will go in this weird, completely surprising direction.

Yeah, probably some of the early episodes/concepts. It's probably not an accident we see Kanan survived in space in an episode.
It's nice that they're using unexplored ideas by Lucas and company.

I can't remember... It's probably the last season because it was
    after he was blind.
