I'm curious how his Episode 7 would have been, but looking back at the past trilogy... maybe it's a good thing we won't have to worry about it.

But it would be fun to see his outline/script/screen-play someday!

They probably used some of the material or at least the basic details of where he pictured it going.

I swear the first time I read the headline "Star Wars 7: George Lucas was originally working on The Force Awakens but couldn't commit to third trilogy"
I read "Star Wars 7: George Lucas was originally working on The Force Awakens but couldn't commit to the prequels"
    Yikes.

I think we were saved from all the CGI this time.

Quite right, I just enjoy looking and reading about the minor differences a story goes through.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get that in the bonus features when the film is available for purchase.

    Ehm... Thanks, but no thanks.

I'm not really one for Lucas hate, and I find ways to enjoy the PT, but I'll also have to admit that a good part of why the OT was so great was that Lucas was not the main director for either EPV or EPVI.

Don't get me wrong, A New Hope is a masterpiece in my opinion.. but I think Lucas burned himself out and lost his experimental edge after that.

Doesn't change anything. George Lucas is brilliant, but was always at his best when working in collaboration with other great artists.

I hope the entire ST has his influence, but am glad each film will have other talented minds bringing them to life.

I think GL's greatest mistake was surrounding himself with people that didn't challenge his ideas, and thinking that only his ideas were of any value. He bought into his own hype.

However, I have great respect and admiration for him for the incomparable magic and wonder that is Star Wars, episodes I-VI. (But especially the OT lol) And I truly hope that he gets the same thrill from watching TFA as I'm trusting we'll all get when it opens. He's earned it.

I'm a Lucas defender, but I'll admit I'm glad he didn't write the sequel trilogy. Like he said, it was time to pass Star Wars on to a new generation.

The only good thing about it would be Mr. Plinnket's review

The best criticism I have seen of the prequels are the RedLetterMedia "Mr Plinkett" Reviews, and above the humour and various criticisms in those reviews, their best argument directed towards lucas was the problem of total control.

Go back and watch "Behind the Scenes" of the Prequels and numerous interviews from lucas. He had/has two fatal flaws.

    1. Created an environment where there was very little desire to challenge lucas in production
    2. Insulated himself to the point where he didn't seek out criticism.

As Mike Stoklasa from RLM has argued, the original trilogy, particularly ANH, are well EDITED movies. The Mr. Plinkett reviews and the documentary "The People vs. George Lucas" go into this quite in depth.

I think if Lucas created this trilogy the same issues with the prequels would have been seen again. Lucas created one hell of a universe for us fans, but it was time to pass the torch.

He did write the Sequel Trilogy .... He began writing Episode VII in 2011 then Disney came up in bought the company.

JJ and Larry are just writing the script to what George laid out.

Not directed at you but, why does everyone think this is JJ's story? .. It's not.

I guess I was mostly referring to the script, as Lucas is rather sketchy in that department. But yes, the ideas and concepts are built around Lucas' groundwork, as they should be. I'm actually really glad they kept him on as a creative consultant. It's a minor job, but it just wouldn't feel like Star Wars without him.
