It's official. A brand new animated Star Wars series has been ordered for Disney Plus next year!

    (from Lucasfilm):

Big shout out to Noah Outlaw, who first broke the scoop on this story back in June:

    https://twitter.com/OutlawNoah/status/1273407180625100809

That's all the info we have right now but the reveal that it's a post-Clone Wars era is very interesting. While there have been mentions of clones in the Empire's service before, only in passing, we've never gotten a look at that transition from Order 66 to Imperial Stormtrooper.

The suggestion of 'mercenary missions' implies the Bad Batch aren't in the Empire's service anymore for the bulk of the show, but hopefully we're shown the team's transition into mercenary life.

Bad Batch were shown as a loner squad, without a Jedi general, meaning that Order 66 may not have even have effected them. We've never seen Order 66 from the perspective of clones who weren't essentially standing right next to a Jedi, maybe this will give Bad Batch a different perspective than others, especially with Echo's high opinion of Jedi vs. the rest of the squads very limited interaction with them. Alternatively, maybe we'll get to see Bad Batch on a high profile Order 66, Jedi assassination mission. Who Knows?

'Struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose' makes me think of Firefly. The Bad Batch will be trying to find there place without a Republic to serve and clankers to destroy, all while attempting to pick up jobs and keep the team, and its ship, together.

The possibilities are endless at the moment, but hopefully it's an interesting exploration of post-war clones, filled with the awesomely staged battle scenes that made the The Bad Batch arc so exciting.

Whatever the premise, we know that these clones are not meant to be expendable.

This is so lame and uninspired...

Just remember -- Disney could be making something really good instead. But this is what they chose...

It is set right after the Clone Wars, so there is potential for some interesting stories. For example - how would they handle meeting the remaining clones, who became stormtroopers?

The arcs that focused on the clones never interested me at all, so my heart genuinely sank when I saw this was official. Hardcore prequel/TCW fans are arguably the most toxic element in the Star Wars fanbase at the moment. Can’t help but feel this is an attempt by Lucasfilm/Disney to pander to them.

I hope this is good! I wasn't a giant fan of the Bad Batch when they were on the screen. Sure, their abilities were cool, but they were also giant jerks to character we like for no reason and never got their comeuppance. Now that they're the protagonists I doubt we'll see that either. Also, the clones are best balanced by the Jedi and other arcs, so I'm interested to see who the non-clone characters are. I've heard rumblings on Reddit about Quinlan Voss and Barriss Offee, but I'll only believe that when I see it...and I really hope if Quinlan is involved, he's a main character. The dude's too cool to go out like a chump.

Overall this is interesting but not inspired. I'm willing to give it a chance though.

I am going into this series with low expectations. That being said, the people in charge of the project are some of the best. Thus, while the floor is low, the ceiling is also very high.

I thought more people would be excited for this. I always loved the clone episodes though, and Echo will be in this as well since he is in Bad Batch, right?

    More Star Wars! Yay! :D

While not my exact cup of blue milk, I'm extatic that the clone fans will get more of their medicine, and I cannot understand why people need to throw a stink just because their favorite fantasy dream project wasn't the exact thing announced! Stop being difficult and rejoice in the fact that fellow fans with a taste different from yours get stuff they like. Fandome is not a competition; be happy for your fellow fans. And who knows, when you actually see it and has something that you can actually hold an opinion on, you might just like it.

Don't choose misery. You absolutely don't have to, and if you do, nobody, including you, wins.

I bet it will be one season, two at most. I wasn't overly thrilled with these characters, and their story arc did feel like a backdoor pilot that should have happened a few years ago.

But, if they make the characters a bit less cartoony (not in animation, actual character :p), then I am more than willing to be surprised and content.

I'm disappointed. I mean, of all the things they could do they chose this? I love TCW, but after S7 I feel like it's time to let the era rest for a bit and explore other era's in Star Wars (Kotor/High Republic, ST, post-ST).

I do get the underwhelmed responses. I wouldn’t say I am completely ‘whelmed’, :D let alone overwhelmed, but I feel a bit like I think I did when Solo: ASWS was announced - like ‘cool, ok, not what I would have personally chosen to be the next thing they made... but I’ll definitely give it a chance and see what they do with it...’. (...and then I absolutely loved Solo).

I’d rank the Bad Batch arc of TCW as the middle of the pack of S7, and I can see potential, but honestly as with Solo, it’s not so much who the characters are for me (I’m ok with that already), but more about what is the story going to be that they’re telling? And the tale in the telling, the pudding is in the eating.

So I’m cautiously looking forward to it. And as an animation fan quite aside from my Star Wars fandom, I’m always interested to see what style and advances in production they might come up with both technically and artistically. S7 of TCW really was stunning in places. What’s the worst that can happen? I don’t like it and I don’t have to watch it again. *shrug* ok. But I might love it, and that would mean yet more Star Wars I love. Bring it on!

I’m a huge fan of The Clone Wars, but even I have to admit that I was a little disappointed by Lucasfilm announcing this instead of something more exciting like a Rebels sequel.

While I liked the Bad Batch arc, it wasn’t really the new characters I particularly enjoyed. It was the stunning animation, cool action sequences, music, and character driven moments with pre-existing characters like Rex or Anakin. That being said I do hope that this new show will warm me up to them!

I think the general premise of this series is pretty intriguing. Seeing the early days of the Empire from the perspective of the clones is a relatively fresh idea and I’m looking forward to seeing where they go with this story.

The people who leaked information about this show back in June have also said that characters like Ahsoka, Rex, and Cody will make appearances. That definitely doesn’t hurt! Hopefully they carry on the animation style of the most recent Clone Wars season.

While I’m not overly thrilled about this new series, I’ll give it a try! The way I see it is that it’s another piece of Star Wars content to look forward to. Besides, these are uncertain times and in uncertain times, it’s good to have stuff to look forward to in the future!

Possible Character Analysis of Bad Batch.

Hunter: Will most likely be struggling to lead his squad in a non-military role. Most of his conflict will be trying to unite his team in new conditions.

Wrecker: Wrecker gets on my nerves, and has no personality aside from strong and blow things up. However, they could tone him down and maybe he could go on a technical mission with Tech and learn subtlety and to not blow things up.

Crosshair: Maybe one time he misses a shot and because of it, someone shoots Hunter in face and he almost dies. Then, Crosshair can learn humility, but otherwise he has no character.

Tech: Tech is a perfect genius with no flaws. The only thing I can think of is that maybe Tech, being the least martially able, will be without his gadgets and will get his ass kicked, and then maybe he will feel guilt.

Echo: Will maybe find himself an outsider in the bad Batch, and maybe he will long for the stricter but more straightforward life in the army. Also, when all the clones die, if his chip doesn’t malfunction, maybe he will feel guilt that he wasn’t there with Rex or all his other BFFs. Assuming he does not know that Rex survived. Or maybe he will be angry that the other members of the bad batch choose to take mercenary jobs, instead of avenging their brothers.

The fact this was bombed with “pessimistic”, for merely expressing my opinion, kinda proves the “toxic” point. Sorry my opinion isn’t the same as yours. Well done.

Gee, I dunno maybe it was this delusional comment?

"Hardcore prequel/TCW fans are arguably the most toxic element in the Star Wars fanbase at the moment. Can’t help but feel this is an attempt by Lucasfilm/Disney to pander to them."

They don't make content to cater to one specific group. They must felt there was an audience for it.

Actually it's pretty toxic to label a whole group of people toxic just because they really love the prequel era. Although I didn't give you any negative rating, I'm not sure that a pessimistic rating is fully undeserved.

That’s an utterly ridiculous sweeping generalisation, and not at all what I said. Only a Sith deals in absolutes. Obviously people that love the prequels are not all toxic and I’m genuinely happy for the good natured fans that are excited for this kind of content, even if it’s not for me.

Go on any social media (twitter/Instagram) and 9 times out of 10, a Star Wars “fan” spewing hate will be from an account lauding the PT/TCW.

These fans are toxic, not all prequel fans or clone wars fans. Just these people. That’s what I meant by “hardcore”, as in fans that only like this content and relentless trash anything that isn’t that. These are the kind of people Lucasfilm appeared to be pandering too, when they should just ignore them.
