Lucasfilm have officially given fans a first look at The Mandalorian as production on the television series developed exclusively for the still-untitled Disney Streaming Service has begun. In addition, they have revealed five of the directors attached to work on the project, many of whom have a great deal of experience with working on the franchise.

The first look at the series has been revealed online, featuring what appears to be the titular character in a suit of Mandalorian armor:

According to the official Star Wars website, production on the series has officially began, with several prominent directors from movies and television alike taking part in the project:
Rumors have indicated that Dave Filoni may be directing two episodes instead of one, and that Alan Taylor may potentially be in the running to direct an episode as well. It would not be surprising to hear that Jon Favreau might get behind the camera as a director for this project (as earlier rumors suggested that he'll be handling the season finale), but the press release doesn't indicate that this is the case (at least for now). There is no confirmation that the series will be eight or ten episodes, as reporting on the episode count has raised questions about the number of episodes the initial season of this series will air.

More information can be seen on a special edition of The Star Wars Show:

As of right now, no information on the show's cast is available. However, with the speed at which this show is moving forward, we can presume that a cast reveal of the show's major players won't be too far behind. This is incredibly exciting to see unfold and we can't wait to see more!

Looks great! Too bad they didn't announce the lead... A full cast announcement is probably coming later. Hopefully soon...

As for the directors, I'm interested mainly in how Filoni will do, since he has potential to jump into the movie world - or maybe I should say: I wish it turned out he has that potential. I'd like to see more than one episodes from him. I also hope Favreau will direct at least one. Very surprised to see Waititi here, given the shots he has taken at LFL in the past ("I like to finish my movies" tweet).

Would be cool if Greig Fraser was confirmed as well.

Already looking forward to that inevitable high noon-type gunslinger duel!

If we're really getting this and IX in late 2019... Oh, boy. What a year this is going to be. Starting from Celebration.

No I think that's a figure behind him in a dark robe type of get up.

I must say. This sh## looks like it's going to be that old school Han on Tatooine shoot'em up/out type of vibe, and for it to be a Mandalorian?!!!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

That is the first genuinely good Star Wars costume I've seen since Disney bought the franchise all the way back in 2012.

Cool costume. This character seems a badass to me.

Hope to see some reminiscence of the Empire, Luke's new Order, some Snoke in there and the creation of the First Order in subplots, not only Mandalorians.
They could show us some cool points to tie with the Saga (and don't miss opportunities).

If wonder if the casting news is being delayed because they want to go straight for promotional pictures with make-up and costumes? Would be a cool way to raise interest without needless speculation.

Amazing costume design and it will definitely peak peoples interest with it being centered around a Mandolorian. I want to see them explore things not seen on screen before in Star Wars and hopefully be bold in the direction they take.

I love the Clint Eastwood vibe! It's amazing how one picture can hype me much more than several clips of another series. :p

Life comes at you quicker than you think, eh? :D Had he really been that opposed to working on a Star Wars thing, he wouldn't have been hired. A sidenote - after Thor: Ragnarok premiered Kathleen Kennedy said that she was very interested in hiring Taika Waititi to direct a SW film. It seems like her interests paid off.

What I find interesting in that list is how close the House of Mouse likes to keep its creators. Taika obviously did Ragnarok, but he also wrote the first draft for Moana. Rick Famuyiwa is also involved in production of a live-action film about an African princess called Sadé for Disney and Deborah Chow worked on Iron Fist and Jessica Jones. Just something I find interesting.

I think tying it so strongly to everything else in the Galaxy would be a missed opportunity. I'm sure the fact that this time period was the infancy of the New Republic would play into its narrative but they should definitely not overdo it. One of the greatest weaknesses of the Prequels, Rogue One and Solo is their compulsive need to tie everything to the OT and/or the Sequels. This is a TV show, not a reference book. Let it stand on its own feet.

Did anyone else hear Ennio Morricone's music with that picture? :D

Great group of directors! Surprised by Bryce Dallas Howard. As far as I know she did one short for Sundance, she must have been kicked some serious a$$ during the meeting to be chosen. Taika, YASS!

Maybe they aren't casting actors. Just some stunt doubles with cool costumes. No dialogue, just action!
