Yeah, it would be a new take on the mainstream Star Wars saga episodes! I just don't want Star Wars to get too far away from its routes and I don't want them to ignore any of the first six movies down the road.

Alright, so I'm having a thought here, inspired by the comments on the main site...

What if Lucasfilm were to try making a (serious) film from the perspective of the villains' side, something along the lines of Letters From Iwo Jima? What era this would be, I don't know. But the concept is intriguing, to me anyway. For that matter, just like Letters From Iwo Jima was a companion film to Flags of Our Fathers, they could do a dual-movie scenario here.

    I would seriously love that!
I think in order for them to do episodes 10,11, and 12 they should let TFO win. It would set up room to play with for the writers of those movies. But seriously if they do a third type of empire versus the rebellion in episodes 10,11, and 12, I will be pissed. They should have TFO not win but win, lol, Episodes 8 and 9 setting up 10,11, and 12. That's just my opinion.

I'm conflicted about Gareth Edwards possibly directing Obi-Wan. Character-driven stories have never been his strength. On the other hand, he's very talented, and it seems like he's never directed a movie with a strong script. His first movie, Monsters, was all improv with a loose plot outline to work off of, and his two studio movies (Godzilla and and especially Rogue One) seem like their scripts were never fully developed into one clear vision. I love his visual style, he's put together some absolutely stunning set pieces (the tidal wave, HALO jump and final battle sequences in Godzilla; the destruction of Jedha and basically the entire third act in Rogue One) that put most current blockbusters to shame. One reason I like Monsters is the intimate, "indie sci-fi" tone it has. It's a really unique feeling that could translate to a great Obi-Wan movie as long as he has a good script and sticks with it.

Two other directors I think should be considered for the Obi-Wan movie:
    • James Mangold: I rarely ever buy into the hype with superhero movies but Logan was outstanding. It was a blockbuster that felt like an independent road movie/family drama/western. It handled a small set of characters really well and did a great job at showing a beloved character come to terms with his inner demons and protect a young prodigy in hopes of creating a better future. Seeing as Simon Kinberg is heavily involved with both the X-Men franchise and Lucasfilm, including at least one upcoming anthology, I could see Mangold already being in talks.
    • Danny Boyle: He basically launched Ewan McGregor's career in the 90's, and the two are on good terms again, so that's a perfect pairing right there. One of the best and most versatile directors in the business. He's done effects-heavy sci-fi (Sunshine), movies focused on a single character (127 hours) and everything in between. Plus, could you imagine having an Oscar-Winning director do a Star Wars film?
My director pick for the bounty hunter movie would be Dan Gilroy. Nightcrawler was an amazing look at a gritty business underworld populated by morally questionable freelance workers all competing for the same prize. The way he made L.A. feel like this dark hellhole makes me wonder what he could do with Coruscant. He's also brothers with Tony Gilroy, who may or may not have saved Rogue One, and the movie industry is all about knowing the right people.

I think Alfonso Cuaron would be a great director for the YA romance movie. He handled that kind of material amazingly with Y Tu Mama Tambien (breakout role for our boy Cassian) and Prisoner of Azkaban (easily the best of the Harry Potter series, which is basically the Star Wars of the YA crowd). Oh and he made Children of Men. And Gravity. Really this guy would be perfect for any Star Wars movie, but if we have to do a YA romance he'd be a great choice.

No movie to pin him to, but I'd love to see Alex Garland write/write and direct a Star Wars anthology. Any directors you all would like to see? We've got at least 10 more years of movies coming up after all.

@Teej These are all fantastic choices. I've also thought of picking Danny Boyle for Obi-wan film. If we get at least one of these directors to create a film in the Star Wars franchise I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic piece of cinema.

Gareth Edwards is my favorite director! I love that you brought up Godzilla 2014! It's my favorite movie! He would be my number one choice for any movie. Great post though! ;)

Hey guys, do you know what would be so cool? A bounty hunter TV series aimed for people who are a bit older! Like a dark series, they could release on Netflix or something! That would be so awesome

Funny...im writing a bounty hunter kinda story but the time it takes place is before the events of the PT. Im just doing it for fun and seeing where it could take me. There will be two versions where one takes place in the SW universe. It involves mandalorians.

A live action series with a gritty and even political tone I would love to se, Set in any era, preferable the Old Republic but i binge watch it regardless. I'm probably the most excited for that, I would love to see Ewan Macgregor as Obi Wan but I'm worried that it would mess up his canonical arc in The SW Saga, but if the they do it right it will be awesome though, especially if we learned more Jedi History pre phantom menace.

I would really love to see a Kenobi movie more than anything, I've been anticipating an announcement for quite some time, hopefully it will come soon.

I like others am hesitant of Gareth Edwards being the director, not because I didn't love Rogue One, but because it wasn't a character-centered movie, and that is what this would need to be more than anything. This movie could stand in nice contrast to the groundedness of Rogue One (and presumuably Han Solo), offering a fresh view on the universe.

I'd really want this movie to be a spiritual journey, the most in-tune with the Force of all the Star Wars movies. I'd love to see Kenobi as he develops into the wise, peaceful Jedi Master we see in A New Hope, possibly communing with Yoda and learning how to 'let go' along the way.

Seeing many Obi Wan fan films of his early years, it would be great to see a official one.

I would like to see a SW movie from the perspective of the Empire (or dark side) as the hero's. Write it like the Empire side is the "good side" where we are following the Empire/Dark Side group through a struggle. Maybe Plaguis and Palpatine?
