After having watched the new TV spot I have a feeling that the 'flashback' scene of the KOR is showing them as they prepare to 'kidnap' Luke Skywalker.

I've been saying for a while now that I think Luke is help captive by Snoke who feeds off of Luke's Force powers to stay alive. I think this explains where Luke is, why he can't help the resistance and also why we need a new hero, Rey, to save the day.

In this TV spot Snoke says to Kylo, "Even you have never faced such a test", just as we see the flashback of the KOR as well as what sounds like chains being pulled across the floor and a man screaming. Whether Snoke says this as part of the flashback or afterwards in regard to Kylo fighting Rey/the resistance I wouldn't like to say.

It might be fanboy craziness, but I'd love to see that scene with the KOR fighting Luke in his prime and capturing him.

Also, listen to Snoke's voice. The second part sounds more dream-like and ethereal like in a flashback. So I think this connects to the missing lightsaber. My thoughts are that Kylo gets possession of Luke's saber (I think that is visible in the KOR night time rain shot) and when Maz creates that flashback scene by using the kiber crystal (?) we see Kylo's memories. We hear Snoke telling him what we hear in that TV spot. We see him and the KOR confront and take Luke. This also links to Kylo wanting the saber back ("That weapon is mine!").

Nice theory, but I don't think so. I still think Luke is in seclusion on his own and Kylo wants to find him. There is a line from the Kylo toy that says "Together, we will destroy the Resistance and the last Jedi." I don't think this is just for the toy, and I think he is talking to Rey about Luke. This doesn't make sense to me if they have Luke captive. It also makes Luke a little too weak if all of his pupils were killed AND he has been held captive all these years. It makes more sense to me that Luke is strategically in hiding, similar to Ben and Yoda, until the Force brings Rey to him.

that is a very nice theory. So, how do our people find him?

What if Lor San Tekka is actually handing Poe the clue, he hides it inside BB-8 and from there is goes?

Poe and Kylo also get pretty close and snuggly in a very evil, torture kinda way and I am not above theorizing that Poe actually not only spills his secrets, but also sees some of Kylo's

Why would Luke be in self-imposed exile though when his friends and family are in grave danger? It goes against the character completely. To me it only makes sense that he is unable to help. Also, you have to ask why the son of the chosen one isn't capable of being the hero anymore. Why do we need Rey? For me, Luke is able to pass on his knowledge but his own powers have been diminished.

Maybe Luke has escaped captivity as TFA begins hence why everything kicks off? He could be lying low on Skellig, his energy depleted - awaiting Rey.?

I've been to and fro on what the significance of the lightsaber is. In TESB Leigh Brackett script, it is explained that the saber crystal contains the coordinates to Dagobah. I think it is possible that this lightsaber contains important coordinates too. But on top of that it holds memories that through the Force can be accessed.

Especially if you have a very obnoxious prisoner who just refuses to relent and you need something to break him.

    As I said, nice theory.

Though maybe they aren't actually after the lightsaber and the lightsaber is nothing but a red herring. Maybe they are after the information that Lor San Tekka gave Poe and that now BB-8 has: Where is Luke? What happen to him? Where does the FO hold him.

They wouldn't be hunting something, they would try to catch something before the Resistance gets hold of it.
I mean... how exactly DOES Kylo know that Vader didn't explode with the deathstar, but was given a Jedi ceremony on Endor?

Indeed. Who gave them the location of the Vader mask? Or even that Luke lost the lightsaber on Bespin?
It could be that Luke divulged this information under torture.
Still so many questions and only 20 odd days to go!

I just feel that Luke has to have been captured and that his powers aren't what they once were. He was as powerful as any Jedi could be. So there has to be a pretty strong reason why he is away from it all. And again, I'd love to see a scene of the KOR taking him down!

But how would "Even you have never faced such a test" refer to Luke (is that what you're meaning?)? Luke's been captured, imprisoned, emotionally tortured, had to confront his own father, had to resist killing him, had to beat Palpatine's craftiness. I can't see there being anymore "such a test" for Luke. Luke already passed all the tests in RotJ. This is how he's a Jedi now. He passed the tests.

I think Snoke here is probably referring to Rey- she'll be the one caught in the middle, being tested, trying to decide which "father" is right; which to follow: Luke or Snoke. (not biological fathers, but literary fathers, like in Master and Commander, the young boy was in the care of two 'fathers' the captain and the doctor, and his conflict was over which to follow.)

But it could be Luke is captive; I'm just not feeling it.

I love this. Love this. And it makes perfect sense.

Mark's beard for one, and his hair during production were far longer and messier than they were during the shot of him in Jedi robes that leaked, which suggests two states we will see Luke in; one groomed and dignified, and one wild and unkempt, suggestive of a hermit or prisoner.

Moving forward, that is to me, 100% Luke's scream, it has the same timber and quality from Mark in the OT, it sounds very much like his "No!" in ESB in a way, just without the words, if that makes sense. And the chains are there for a reason, that is NO accident. JJ loves this kind of stuff.

Again, it is NOT a random event that there is a low, barely audible mix of chains and screaming, right after that line, and that the scream resembles Luke's voice quality.

I think the KOR take Luke, and his big reveal is going to be on STARKILLER, as a prisoner. He escapes into the woods in the chaos of the base taking heavy damage, Snoke escapes, and Luke shows up, weak and weary but still capable to stop Kylo! Then, they take the falcon to a place that Luke knows will be safe, an old Jedi refuge to begin to rebuild.

Also, I think what sets Rey off, is during Maz's flashback, she finds out that Luke never came back for her because he was taken, and Han and Leia have never known where.

It's possible Kylo & crew smoke-check Luke's new Jedi followers but Luke escapes. That could explain the dead bodies laying around the KoR & Kylo in some ads-trailers.
Luke being the "reluctant" hero in the climax or 3rd act rings true.

Luke being a monk or wanting to avoid the constant war or combat makes sense too. How many battles can he fight? How many people can he kill?
A flashback scene or dream scene might explain this in TFA.

Hm, I listened again and do not think that is Luke's voice/scream at all. Doesn't sound like Hamill to me in any way. What it does sound like is the rage-scream Sidious did right before he went into battle against Windu's posse.

If Luke's on the Starkiller, this also may up the stakes for Han and particularly Leia, giving her some moral quandaries in using the Resistance's super weapon (Is she just doing it, sacrificing so much, for her brother?, etc.)

    Really interesting theory.

I think Snoke is referencing Kylo taking on Luke, or his Jedi academy or both. Like a warning, challenge and test for Kylo and his KoR to see if they are worthy.

Who knows?!?!?! Lots of mystery still with a couple weeks out. Have not been thi excited since 1983.

    edited for spelling.

What I meant was that Snoke is saying this to Kylo Ren BEFORE he (Kylo) faces Luke at the 'Jedi Academy'. Kylo and the other Ren capture Luke and bring him to Snoke. Snoke then uses Luke's power/Force essence (established in Aftermath) to keep himself alive.

If you look at the KOR trailer shot, you can see Kylo has his saber as well as another in his right hand. That to me (along with "that weapon is mine") suggests he at some point at Luke's saber. As he has the saber in that shot, it must be a flashback. I think he took that with him when he confronted Luke - maybe taunting him in some way.

It has been heavily suggested that the lightsaber will play a role in the flashback scene. The concept art shows Maz Kanata, who possibly conjures the flashback, looking at a kiber crystal. I think she access the 'Force memory' of the crystal and from this the heroes witness first hand, through Kylo's eyes what happened at the Jedi academy. Kylo knows that this is possible perhaps and this is why he was so desperate to get his weapon back.

Anyway, we also know from that scene that Rey walks out of the room (from the flashback) - if she is Luke's daughter, maybe she see's what happened to him? Or maybe it just shows everyone that Darth Vader was Luke's father and this has ramifications? I digress. The point is, I think the saber shows flashbacks somehow and this is how we see that KOR flashback. Considering that Luke is nowhere to be seen and the dialogue over that part of the trailer, I think this suggests Luke has been taken.

That is not fanboy craziness. That is just pure evil and wrong in every way.

Geroge Lucas is on record as saying Luke Skywalker is the most powerful Jedi ever. The dude took down Vader, and he made the Emperor fear for his life enough to try to turn him. It would be completely illogical for the KOR to be able to touch Luke in his physical prime with more years of training, given how far he came with just three. And it is a giant insult to Luke Skywalker's legacy to even suggest that the KOR would be able to withstand his Force power, just to start.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 26, 2015 ---
And just how do you explain Luke's hand on R2, not looking a bit threatened? That is cetainly in the flashback.

Luke could be away for so many other reasons. Just like Snoke saying "You have never faced such a test" and "It is time" could easily be him speaking to Snoke in the present as the First Order is on the hunt to find and kill Luke Skywalker. The different tone in his voice? That could just be because the character's voice changes tone.

What you have done is try to read a hell of a lot more into some details than is reasonable in order to project your own "fanboy" paradise plot as some sort of definitive truth about the movie. That, and emasculate the character who is the core of Star Wars in so many ways.

You deserve to ride some serious Force Lightning, man.

Whatever they do with Snoke I hope it is clear and thought out and makes sense on the big screen. Hopefully we can avoid debates like why Palpatine/Sidious face changes or his voice changes.

Disclaimer: I am not a prequel or Lucas hater.

I don't think Luke will be superhuman, he will be the strongest jedi, but we saw in episode III the the jedi are not invincible, they got killed by stormtrooper, and yes, they took them by surprise, but still they killed them with blasters, no force powers, no super-reflexes.
I think that the Knights of Ren could be able to capture and even kill him, depending on how strong and how many they are, they will be for sure weaker than him, but if they are at least 6-7, and have an army they can beat Luke.
It would be even cooler if he actually surrounds to them to save his padowan (maybe he had one before TFA? ) or the jedi academy he started (obviously IF he started an academy xD ), I mean there are so many ways to make the KOR capture Luke without diminishing his strenght and powers.

Wow, first off I think it needs to be said that you and Luke should get a room.

He 'took down' a half robot cripple. The Emperor said he had the potential to destroy him. Why would it be illogical for the KOR to defeat Luke?
    a) Luke isn't a god.
    b) Kylo could be a Skywalker and have the same kind of power potential and be well trained by Snoke.
    c) We know nothing about the other KOR.
    d) Luke, at this point, could've just witnessed the death of his padawans.
    f) The other Ren could wear Luke down and then Kylo defeats him.

And if Luke is so powerful why do we need Rey to be the new hero of the saga?

I'm not going to comment on a scene that I know nothing about, not even the context. Is it a flashback, maybe? However, the setting looks identical to Jakku and another poster pointed out that in the behind the scenes photo of the said shot you can see the Jakku village huts in the background.

Well, yes it could mean that. But you've just suggested that there is a hunt to find and kill Luke and that Snoke's voice changes - 2 theories with no evidence.

If that's the case then you need to answer:
    a) Why doesn't Luke help out his friends and the resistance in their darkest hour?
    b) Why does the saga need a new hero in Rey (if Luke is supremely powerful)?

My theory is based on evidence.
    1. Aftermath establishes Force essence drainage to prolong life.
    2. Serkis has said Snoke is vulnerable and damaged.
    3. Luke is missing and must be for a very good reason.
    4. Rey is the new hero, why not still Luke?
    5. Snoke appears to be talking to Kylo in the new trailer - what greater test is there for him than to face Luke Skywalker? And considering that we see Kylo fight Finn and Rey at the end of TFA do we expect him to then speak with Snoke and then fight Luke? I think not.

Emasculating Luke? That comment is just plain weird. Never-mind using Force lightning on me, you're the one that needs shock therapy! BOOM! (emperor)

If Plagueis = Snoke, then I love the idea of Luke slowly breaking over time.... under his glare. Plagueis is the only force user strong enough to tie the entire saga together, anyone else, and the ST risks being as disjointed as the PT. OT cast or not.
