SPECULATION Luke has a villain wife?

I know that many people must be crazy to see if Mara Jade is made canon and bought to the fold but I personaly would love Luke's wife to be from an alien species. A Twi'Lek or a Togruta would be awesome as all the Skywalkers have always been humans. As to Rey beeing Luke's daughter, I think that would be ok as long as they give a sweet backstory on what happened and who her mother was. Who knows, maybe her mom is really Sy Snootles and it would make sense that she went bad since we have already seen Sy being nasty by tricking and killing Zero!

 

You could still have "Mara Jade" be a Twi'lek and keep the same element to here character.... I think it would be amazing if Mara was the founder of the Knights of Ren

 

Bring in Mara Jade.

I know that if Mara Jade does get get a character she probably won't be the same mara jade. But I think having her character show up in Luke's life at some point after RoTJ and have them get married and have a child (Rey or Kylo) could be interesting. And I would love it if there was a schism between the the where she has a following from there academy that she turns into the Knights of Ren her son being one of them (Kylo) and the academy gets disbanded and Luke goes to hiding on the Skellig michael planet for the next 15 yrs

 

That would be cool and it would also be a good explination on where Kylo Ren's obsesion with Vader came from. This could please many fans as it could both bring Mara into the SW canon and at the same time give Luke a chance to start over with another wife and hopefully from an alien species. I for one love the idea of there being a nonhuman Skywalker. Having a female Twi'Lek or Togruta Skywalker would be so awesome! Heck, having Luke have a Nikto son would really blow my mind!

 

I actually posted a theory a couple months ago about Mara Jade potentially being the sidious level bad guy for this trilogy.. with this new idea that Luke may be getting an evil wife in episode VIII that almost proves my theory... of course we still need more evidence and it may only be partially true if true at all.

@Wayne, that would quell the complaints about Luke's potential wife not showing up in TFA, or where the explanation/exposition of Luke's relationship would take place.

 

Whenever I think of Luke having a kid my first thought is... but what about Mara Jade or whomever the mother is.... I think that could easily be flushed out in explanations and back story like the OT.... and of course they could always make a comic sereis or book trilogy based on the story referenced in the trilogy for those whom wish to see it... And they are making a Han solo fil so they could make an anthology film where Luke meets the mother or something like that.... I honestly wouldn't mind that.... and I wouldn't mind Hayden playing the post Jedi Luke in Mark Hammil's stead.... I know that is probably not a popular theory but, its all possible.... that could be why Hayden might be being trained for a roll in Ep VIII. just my thoughts

 

I'm usually of the mind is that they'll introduce her in the comics or in some sort of EU release, and then reference her in the movies so that she could already be fleshed out and the movie fans who don't know about her (whoever she may be) would then have incentive to read the material she's in, driving up sales. As for Hayden coming back to be Luke, I honestly never thought of that! I still think it's more likely he's going to make an appearance as Anakin, but props for the theory! Only Vader got to be so fleshed out in the OT, not Padme. I think they'd learn from that though. As for a Luke anthology film, it's POSSIBLE, but IMO I don't think that'd be the best way to go either.

@Vagabondarts, while I do like the idea, I'm of two minds here. The first is if this is true, and Felicity's character is playing Luke's wife, now having Rogue One between TFA and VIII is now like the flashback we'll probably never see in the movie and all the character development needed assuming she doesn't appear. My second mind is if we're combining your theory with the idea that Luke's wife may be an antagonist, I like the idea (and I think I mentioned so on @Wayne's post), but they'd also have to work really hard to sell me a character who helped steal the Death Star plans went rogue (horrible pun intended ). What made her decide that the Rebellion wasn't the right way to go? Either way, all of this talk makes me more excited for Rogue One!

 

Am I missing something about the casting for this rumoured female villain, because while I like the idea and the way the story could play out, I was under the impression that they were pulling from the same Tatiana Maslany/Olivia Cook/et. al. pool of actresses, who are... much younger than Mark Hamill, to say the least.

Oh, no I totally agree! I think that this would be a great way to go. Just wanted to make sure that I hadn't missed that... Oh I don't know, Meryl Streep being confirmed for Episode VIII ; )

 

I think they need to make it so that there is interesting stuff that isn't fully explained in the trilogy. There primary arch need not hinge on EU material. But backstory stuff can be quickly mentioned or discussed in scenes here and there. Like it was in a New hope. That way people whom only watch the movies won't be lost. But those of us whom like reading and what not can read up on the specifics of those points.
