That's why I'm a fan of Aphra being a potential love interest to Luke and/or mother to Rey (or Kylo Ren if Ren is Luke's son and Rey isn't his daughter...or both...). Aphra's story is intricately tied into Vader's own and it's a good marketing ploy IMO. "You get to read about Darth Vader. Do you need more? Ok! You meet Rey/Kylo Ren's mother AND you discover HOW Vader found out that Luke was his son!" or something along those lines. It also allows for the writers to subvert fan's expectations via Taking a Third Option or as I'm calling it now, the "Ahsoka Solution."

By EU material do you mean Legends or the current EU? I agree with you on the Legends aspect if that's what you mean, but if you mean current EU then it could work like how you discuss.

(As a point of humor, I'd like to add that I think fans and moviegoers alike were quite lost as to how Leia remembers Padme :))

I agree but only after seeing Revenge of the Sith.
I am talking current EU not Legends. Example: It is revealed in VII the Kylo Ren is Luke's Son (Just for poops and giggles). now everyone is wondering whom his mother is.... Episode VIII comes out and Kyrin Ren (made up the name) shows up and we find out that she is Kylo Ren's mother... then in episode IX we find out that she and Luke had a child together but disagreed on things but were still in love (like Thane and Cienna from Lost Stars). This lead her to start her own group of force users called the knights of Ren. etc etc. All this wouyld be explained to us as we watch the movie in the same fashion the old Ben tells Luke that Vader killed his father and then you learn the real story. and Afterwards Lucas film would release a brand new Comic line or book or video game or what ever telling that story. but we still know it if we've seen the movie, we just haven't seen the event unfold... I am sure you realized that was what I meant but I figured I'd give you an example.

I don't think we've seen Luke's wife yet and it's more optimism than proof. I want Luke's wife (if he has one) to show up on screen first! It will be a captivating moment you just cannot get in a comic book.

Like in Rogue One, for instance? (I'm looking at you, Felicity Jones)

It's possible. I just wonder who would play old Felicity Jones.

Also, I would find it odd if Luke's wife did not have force powers. I think that's just the Stereotype brought about by Mara Jade. But I suppose he could marry pretty much anybody.

Jullianne Moore as Mara Jade / Darth Kruul / Kyrin Ren... maybe.
she is about 55 right now so shes the proper age to play Luke's wife.

Gotcha, gotcha! That could work too! Btw, that name Kyrin Ren is hilarious. I love it!

However, even if "Kyrin Ren" does show up on the big screen first, I feel like fans (or maybe just me) would want to know how she 1) became a villain, 2) met Luke; and why 3) she founded the Knights of Ren; and 4) her back story in general. If they build up to it, they don't have to do any back tracing and avoid any potential plot holes (what I'm thinking of now calling the "Padme dilemma" (I think I just like naming things...:)) or any creators that just love changing set ideas to fit what they want to tell. Disney has been constructing this new EU and this new universe as a whole. Introducing her outside of a movie not only fits with their idea of marketing/dispersing information in unassumed ways (Force Friday comes to mind - and yes that could have been a one-shot deal, but considering how successful it is I'm pretty sure it'll become routine from now on) but also allows fans to go back and see the hints of who "Kyrin Ren" was and how she's become who she is by the time we meet her on the big screen.

I totally understand that! Is there a way we could compromise? Like she has two aliases? Or went by another name when we meet her in the comics? Then again, as many have pointed out, Felicity Jones as the wife sidesteps a lot of issues (except if she's a villain. Then we have more issues).

I would love a build up leading to it integrating all sources but I doubt they will do it that way, given that not everyone reads the EU. I would have loved for Aftermath to be that story. or the Shattered Empire Comic.

I like the idea of Rey being Luke's daughter.
As for her mom being a villain... if she is present in Episode VIII, then I am so down for that. It certainly beats having yet another mother figure whose importance diminishes the second the child is out of the womb.

I Like this a lot. A character using Lady Lumiya's archetype would be an interesting character to use for this role.

As much as I want to think Luke had a family I just don't think so.

He is the last Jedi and probably has been training all these years and meditating in order to get the strength to fight what may be coming.

I believe he follows the Jedi order and had no family.

It would be cool if he had an heir though

I don't think Luke would become the monk like Jedi the previous order was. It's possible he would have gotten married or at least had relations.

Ya, I am a little more open to speculation at this point on this topic. It is going to be interesting in what they have chosen.

My biggest concern is what the story would... My heart want Mara Jade because she was so bad ass. I want her and Talon Karrde to appear, as well as Thrawn. I understand that the stories are not cannon anymore but the characters could still be used. At the very least as arch-types. I would be okay with her being dead at this point. Given she makes appearances in either anthology films flashbacks or other media. I really want a post Jedi video game. I want the story to be where you are a renegade Tie Pilot whom is captured by the New Republic after the battle of Jakku. And I want your character to meet Luke and he feels the force in you and takes you on as his first padawan. maybe you're Mara Jade in the game or you meet her in the game. maybe she is a bounty Hunter that a self appointed Admiral (Thrawn) highers to assassinate Princess Leia or General Solo, or even Luke. but through the course of the game of course things happen that cause her and Luke to fall in love. I'd prefer it if Mara was not the character you played as and she was the bounty hunter I just described. I think it could be a fun way to fill in the holes of how Luke got married and had a child. An you could potentially make it a trilogy of games that build off of one another. in the book heir to the Empire Talon Karrde is a smuggler, but that could be the character you're playing. he could have the same personality and all that with a different story. or he could be a buddy of Han's that helps Luke and you escape from Mara throughout the game. Maybe Mara is sent to kill both Leia and Luke and Han and Chewie take Leia, while Talon Karrde and his crew take Luke and you (his new student)... that way she has to hunt down both of you. maybe you get captured by her and tortured by Thrawn as to the whereabouts of Luke. Idk it could be awesome if they do it right. Thrawn of course could be after the Skywalker Twins for a deeper plot that unfolds. Snoke could be apart of it. And it could even lead into the formation of the Knights of Ren.... but thats all off topic.... my point is that it could be a cool way to write the Love story for Luke without having to worry about casting a younger luke for movies.

I agree with a lot of stuff you have written. BTW! you have a knack for these stories, you should maybe write one.

I miss the EU as well

Thanks!... I am actually in the process of writing my own book series.. and have a Star Wars fan fic in the works. I hadn't got t read a lot of the EU yet I only started like 3 years ago, but I read the Thrawn Trilogy and some of the New Jedi Order stuff.

Hamill always viewed Jedi as wizards. He loved the idea of crazy old Ben the hermit running around like Merlin. I have a strong feeling that Luke will have a very strong hermit wizardness to him.

I see your point I just don't see that being Luke... I think that the reason he is hermit-ed up on Daveron (or what ever the planet is) is because of something that happened year before TFA... I think there was some kind of traumatic thing that caused Luke to feel the need to go into hiding. That event could be getting betrayed by the love of his life (When she founds the Knights of Ren) and that could have caused a rift to form between him and Rey his daughter (or Kylo his son) which caused her to stop her training and Luke to depressed to carry on removes himself fro society to grieve and empty himself of Human attachment. I mean I don't know you could be right. I would be disappointed if all that happened with Luke was that he hermit-ed himself after the GCW was over... it seems lame and unnecessary.

Intersting take. Ya, I would be disappointed also if he hermit-ed up after the GCW also.
