Is Luke Skywalker bad & good, the last few days people are saying Luke is the Villain in part 8. But is he? or is he so hurt that it will appear that he is the bad guy. Did he sense Han Solo his friend and sister husband was in danger and did not come to aid him? These are some of the questions people are asking to know where is Luke, where is his state of mind? Can Luke be so hurt that he turns away from his friends and family and the lightside of the force? Can Luke be embracing the Dark Side of the Force. Can Star Wars have two main villains Snoke & Luke? Can there be two antagonist who are both against each other, or both of them driven by the Darkside? Can Luke be so powerful that he see the wrong of the light side? Or can he see the good of the darkside so much it drives him to that edge?

Or can Luke be so hurt that he turn his back to the right side due to his hurt and pain and lost? Allow Han to die, see his sister Leia fighting the First Order and he turning his back on her and the Resistance? This is how Luke Skywalker can be bad in 8. That he is so hurt and him not aiding the Resistance makes him bad meaning he has the source to change things for the good but he turns his back to it, so he is bad in that sense. Not helping turning a blind eye, or becoming blind justice.

Or can Luke be the main villain taking over the First Order? Or can Luke Skywalker assist the Resistance and take control for his self and end up destroying the First Order and using the Resistance for evil?

These are some of the questions people are asking about the Last Jedi where can Luke be in his mind, and what will be his main job in part 8 with his plot and twist. Can Luke be a Gray Jedi, even the term of Grey Jedi does not make sense, a Grey Jedi who not good or not bad, or a Jedi that use the Light and the Darkside but do not choose a side? If a person doesn't choose a side does it make him bad or good? I don't believe to much in the Grey Jedi theory because you saying a Jedi can be evil and good? There no balance with that, or one day with the Resistance and one day with the First Order , or one day turning your back to both of them?

Turning your back on both of them is for sure where we will see Luke in the Last Jedi, turning his back on the Resistance and a blind eye to the First Order so in reality turning his back to the First Order even knowing the evil they are spreading. So maybe this is the meaning of Grey Jedi not choosing a side and turning your back away from the Light side and Dark side.

I find difficult to comprehend why would Luke who was so much turned to Light, who was ready to sacriffy his life for friends, galaxy, and right cause,so much that this his Light destroyed theory and practice of the Sith, and, anlike Anakin passed the ultimate challenge in front of Palpatine and Vader, turn after that to the Dark side?

I dont know maybe Dark side energy burst that emanated from dying Palpatine on second Death Star hit Luke in his head? Or missed Luke instead hit Rian Johnson?

Making Luke Darksider will be to much radical.
Twists are good, but this will be such twist that 40 years of Star Wars and Luke's legacy could not hold.

Maybe Disney think it be a good twist, because every one knows how great the character Luke Skywalker is. He a champion of any American non fiction/fantasy character , and everyone wants to see good from him so we can all predict what he will do and not do from all star wars movies and comic books etc. So making him be the villain can be a twist no one can see coming, or at least be bad in a sense he turn his back on the Resistance and does not care what happens to them and his family. Which can make him in that sense bad.

Some already ask if Rey is a Skywalker and this is why Luke & Anakin's lightsaber is calling to her, how can Luke be her father? For Luke to be Rey's father it means Luke broke away from the Jedi way, and this can also mean Luke was leading down the side of the darkside or at least disagreeing with the Jedi way. But I do not think Rey is Luke's daughter. For him to be this must mean he left the Jedi way and father a child then we have to ask who is her mother, what happen to her, did she die with his students, did she leave Luke to join Snoke like Ben Solo did, can all these negative things happen to Luke make him choose another path? That now turns him to turning his back on Leia, Han Solo the Resistance? This is really off topic. But the question has to be asked what are the things that can lead a Jedi down the wrong path to turn on the Jedi way, for that answer we must look at other Jedi who turn to the darkside or a netural side where they are no Jedi nor a Sith which can translate to be they disagree with the Jedi teaching but are not against the Jedi, and mean they dont disagree with every thing about the Darkside but they are not a Sith, neither do they agree with killing and evil, but use the darkside when needed like Mace Windu.

But the question has to be asked what are the things that can lead a Jedi down the wrong path to turn on the Jedi way?

I think Luke inherited Yoda's grumpiness. That's all. He's still good.

What is good? What is bad? It's a matter of perspective. For example Kylo Ren thinks he's doing the right thing. So, is he truly bad?

But no, Luke isn't bad. He'll most likely be torn apart between his reputation as a hero and his failures as Jedi Master. He's more broken than good or bad.

Looking forward to him acting his master's behavior, I hope Rey has to beg for his training knowledge then Yoda shows up ''learn patience she will'' the he'll have to give her trial run.

I'm probably way off, but how I'm seeing it is, it's possible Luke's plans will be seen as bad, and Rey will be against them. Luke's feelings will be clouded and his intentions might muck things up even more. The only way I could see him turning evil is if Snoke controlled him.

I agree nobody is perfect. And they can put some details for Luke in that sense of course.Personaly I would accept that Luke made mistakes, have broken Jedi celibacy law and had love(chears Luke),abandoned Jedi ways, got sick of New Republic cynism and inefficiency.Faced faliure with New Jedi and Ben as a tragedy that has shaken his Faith.
But make Luke an agent of evil for me personaly will not be a good twist but to radical to be considered as creative move but more a rape of Luke's Legacy.

The Guys that make new films must by my opinion follow some basic rules of SW logic.

If Luke didn't succumbed to the Dark Side even facing alone Darth Sidious and Darth Vader together 2 of the most powerfull Sith of all time that wanted to convert him, what in the Galaxy can do this after? Even if Snoke is strong as Palpatine+Vader together he could not do it.

Besides-Snoke fears that Luke could return and train new Jedi. And Snoke has extraordinary senses and insights. He would not worry of that if Luke converted to Dark side.

I would have to agree. Going strictly from a thematic viewpoint here, Luke already fought and bested his inner demons in Episode VI - distilled in that one shot of him throwing away the lightsaber. To fall to the dark side after that confrontation wouldn't add layers to the moment, like Episode VII did with the Endor celebration scene - it would only retract from and cheapen it.

However, there are other avenues to explore for Luke and other obstacles he can overcome as a character. He has never faced absolute defeat before (not counting the Cloud City duel, I suppose) and to see the fruits of his labor to restore the Jedi be set aflame by his nephew tends to dramatically weigh on a person. To leave the known galaxy behind and seclude yourself from others is not perhaps the ideal path Luke could have chose, but it is very much a human one.

Rey is still young and has that youthful spirit, and may not understand Luke's choices. She will clash against him because she only knows Luke the legendary Jedi Master, and not Luke the actual person.

In the end, I could see Luke's Sequel Trilogy arc very much be one of defeating apathy, which tends to be an equal (or sometimes even greater) evil than outright hate. His faith was shaken at the end of Episode V, but we've never really explored what Luke would do if his faith was broken.

Very interesting i read some theories and assumed leaks that Rey will dislike Luke because he will ask her to kill Kylo Ren, like Obiwan wanted Luke to kill Darth Vader. Rey will not want to kill Kylo Ren.

I agree with this 100 percent, Snoke is worried about Luke making new Jedi order. So another question off topic if Luke make a new Jedi order who do you think be part off it?

Yeah I heard that too. Something about Rey will start to change her feelings for Kylo. Probably after she learns more about him. Carrie said Rey is very forgiving.

It's funny when you think about it. Snoke is not happy Kylo has compassion for Rey, and Luke is not happy Rey has compassion for Kylo.

Dam that really good outlook, do you think Luke's apathy and lost faith some are assuming that this is the reason why he has become bad or the villain? Or some are saying due to all that you mention is the reason he will become a villain especially if Rey can't restore his faith? Because at the end of 7 when Luke sees Rey with the lightsaber the truth his face looks like a person that has tried to forget about something or somebody and a person shows him or remind him of that thing he trying to forget and turn away from. This is how I seen Luke face when he seen the lightsaber Rey was giving him, something that he trying to put behind him and when he seen the saber it brought back all the hurt and pain and suffering he buried, what do you think?
    --- Double Post Merged, Aug 5, 2017, Original Post Date: Aug 5, 2017 ---
Funny you said that, that's why I think Finn will end up being a Jedi and not Rey, she might be a Grey Jedi and her compassion for Kylo might bring her to be connect to him especially if Kylo Ren informs her about her family and say to her in the middle of a battle " Rey I can take you to your family" dam she stops and thinks and take his offer. Maybe Kylo Ren using Snoke just as Snoke is using him. Luke vs Snoke and Luke padwan goes another path, while Snoke padwan also goes another path. Reylo lol, and Luke sees something in Finn he is a warrior and he left the First Order, and Finn wants to save Rey from Kylo Ren and the First Order and Snoke so he is forced to train to be a JEDI (dont beat me up yet just thinking outloud).

Luke blows up the hut with the Force because Rey makes him angry.

Luke blows up the hut with the Force because Rey makes him angry.SPECULATION

    Lengthy Intro/Context

To start, I don't believe that Luke is on Ahch-To not doing anything because he's too upset about what happened and that he needs to be "convinced" to fight again.

This trilogy is not about Luke Skywalker. It's about Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo, Snoke, and the rest of the new characters.

They are the main actors here. Luke, Leia, and Han fulfill very important roles as side characters.

Expecting Luke Skywalker to be a hero on par with Rey is setting yourself up for massive disappointment. Even if he does have a lightsaber and uses it, it will be like Han's action sequences in TFA, and it won't be the focus of the story.

    Now, onto the speculation.

    • Daisy said there's a "be careful when you meet your heroes" vibe between Luke and Rey.
    • We've been told by RJ that Luke and Rey have a relationship that isn't like Yoda and Luke's was.
    • I tend to believe that the story isn't lying to us when Han says "Luke blamed himself, walked away from everything... went searching for the First Jedi Temple." The fact Luke went to the first Jedi Temple should be evidence enough to debunk the claim that he's just too upset to "do anything" and needs convincing to come around.
    • Blaming himself is not the equivalent of Luke being too "broken" to do nothing.
There's a current running through Luke's character. He starts off impatient and quick to rush into situations that might be out of his control (Death Star rescue).

In ESB Yoda confronts him on his lack of patience. How he must learn control.

Now in TLJ, we are seeing the culmination of that arc in Luke's waiting for Rey's arrival on Ahch-To. The Barash Vow thing is not just some fluke. I doubt the films will ever say the word "Barash Vow," and perhaps Luke doesn't even know the words.

What matters is what he is doing.

He finally learned patience. A sort of patience that hurts him to exercise.

He's letting the will of the Force decide the outcome.

The Bendu in Rebels tells Kanan:

Perhaps it was the will of the Force to destroy the Jedi and all your kind!

Luke tried rebuilding the Jedi Order. Pablo said that rebuilding the Order were other people's wishes for him, Luke's was simply proving his father still had good in him.

The Order was destroyed. Luke probably sees that as the Force's way of saying, "No more Orders."

There's still one "Order" left to defeat - The First Order

    Main (Shorter) Point

Why was that context necessary? Because people think Depressed Luke doesn't want to train Rey and she sneaks behind his back, reads some ancient stuff, and he catches her, gets angry, blows up the hut. Yes, he is undeniably hurt by Han's death and his Temple's destruction and the overall state of affairs and he'll show it, but Rian Johnson had to come out after everyone thought TLJ would be dark and gloomy and say that the story is actually quite light-hearted, fun, and humurous.

I don't think Luke is Depressed Luke, at least not of the sort that is just on Ahch-To doing absolutely nothing.

So why does he blow up the hut?

I think Rey goes to Luke expecting answers, concrete training, power to defeat Kylo Ren and the First Order, to avenge Han's death.

This is the Luke Skywalker of LEGEND! He's a powerful Jedi Knight, he defeated the Emperor, yatta yatta yatta.

What she will discover is a Luke without answers, or at least without answers he can just tell her. Mentors in fairy tales/mythology can hardly ever just give a straight answer to anything.

Rey is going to be impatient. Eager. And angry.

The type of training Luke has in store for her is not going to be the kind she wants. She'll want power. He'll be giving her something else, perhaps things like the Sea Monster test that make her come face to face with her inner dark side.

I think at some point she will confront Luke about this and get ANGERY.

She'll tell Luke that he's a liar, that the stories about him are lies, that he's a fraud, that he let his friend Han Solo die because he'd rather sit on an island and do nothing.

I think it will boil up and Luke's "demonstration of the Force" power will be him exploding the hut, whereas Yoda proved Luke wrong when he raised the X-Wing out of the water.

It's supposed to be something Rey and Kylo Ren are talking about that sets Luke off, so it might have something to do with the past.

You never know Rey might see and be all for the Jedi way but Luke's hurt and disappointed about the Jedi way might be coming off the wrong way to Rey causing her to lose some respect for him. Or Luke is 100 percent for the Jedi way and Rey disagree with having to kill kylo ren

Hmmm... I think Luke doesn't want another Darth Vader, so the old ways would be logically what he wants to end. He might feel the Jedi are actually wrong even or someone has convinced him that the Jedi are upsetting the balance, and with Rey already running from her "destiny' in TFA, maybe she doesn't want to be part of any of it?

What Anakin Skywalker say evil about the Jedi in his mind is what Rey can also feel if Luke tells her to kill kylo ren and Rey sense the light in him and wants to save him. When she read his mind and learn some things from Luke and the Jedi way and his mother Leia and Han bad relationship that turn him to the dark side she feels mercy for him once she see how Luke is.

Yeah I think if Luke is trying to avoid another Vader, he would likely want Rey to kill Kylo Ren, but her changing feelings will prevent that. It makes sense, and then his blowing up the hut is a good way of showing he's not quite in control of his emotions.

Now how can Luke be bad? Luke turning from the Jedi ways Rey informing him how the resistance is depending on him and this why she is there in aktu and Luke just busy with his porge not caring, turning his back on the Jedi. Rey losing hope in him and the force ghost teaching her the ways of the Jedi and reminding Luke not to lose hope. Rey thinking about her friends in trouble sense Finn needs help wanting to help them and the force ghost saying no and Luke witness this and sees Rey is just like the young Luke and because of this he trains her .
