I was noticing a major storyline crossover from Tales of the Jedi to The Last Jedi. In Tales of the Jedi: Redemption, Ulic Qel Droma isolates himself on a planet, Rhen Var, to escape his past mistakes and to die; Luke isolated himself on Achc-To to eacape his mistake with Ben and wants to die. Then Ulic gets a suprise, Vima Sunrider (a girl) arrives wanting to be trained by Ulic, but Ulic has been severed from the Force; Luke has Rey (a girl) come to learn the ways of the Force and she discovers “you’ve cut yourself off from the Force.” (Force Severance). Both Ulic and Luke are cranky, and cannot forgive themselves for what they have done. And yet both through their apprentices find redemption, and both Ulic and Luke die, their bodies disappearing, and they go to the Netherworld of the Force.

The similarities between Ulic Qel Droma in SW: Tales of the Jedi Redemption Issues 1-5# to Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi are striking. I wonder if the whole inspiration for Luke in TLJ was Ulic, and this is the one NU-Canon most Fans will get of Ulic through Luke.

Even the planets they seek ro be hermits on have a commonality, Rhen Var is an ice planet that melts into water, Ahch-To is surrounded by water. Even how Ulic and Luke die has similarities; Ulic concinces Sylvar (A Cathar Jedi) to let ho of her hate, Luke tries to help Kylo but the results do differ: Sylvar is convinced to let go of her hate, Kylo refuses to forgive and lay down his.
