If he's Super Luke by now, I'll quickly loose interest in the character. Seeing him wade through seas of bad guys or pulling stardestroyers out of the sky would, IMHO, be very boring, and I'd much rather see him a broken man struggling with responsibility and inner demons. But that's me, and folks are allowed to disagree :p

You mean with 'greatest' => strongest?

Whenever people are talking about Luke Skywalker and his role in the sequel trilogy the same question raises: 'How powerful is Luke?'
Most fans want him to be incredibly strong in the force, almost godlike powers.

I get it, but I don´t like it.

Luke had only physical teachers for a short period of time, thus he had to learn on his own. It´s very hard to teach yourself and you will only make progress slowly. So Luke shouldn´t be a "force god".

I imagine Luke somewhat torn apart, torn apart between the light side and the dark side. He uses both sides, like a grey Jedi.
I also think this is the reason of Kylo Ren´s tantrums. I was always wondering where did he get this habit, the answer: Luke throws tantrums, too. In this phase of "anger" Luke is unbelievable powerful.

    Just my two cents.

While seeing Super Luke would warm fans' hearts everywhere, it's not really faithful to Luke's character as presented in canon. He was skilled for how little training he got, he was powerful because of the family he came from, but all Luke's victories are tied to him trusting in the Force and refusing to fight - practically making the opposite choice from Republic-era Jedi.

We learned from Bloodline that he also removed himself from the limelight, from day-to-day workings of the Republic and dedicated himself to teaching and learning the Force. So, I can certainly see him being powerful, but not some Starkiller-type overpowered monster. I can see him more wielding the Force in new and as of yet unseen ways than being Mace-Windu mashup on steroids with lightsaber.

Yes Luke is right up there with the greatest jedi who ever lived, it will be great to see him use the force 30 years on & wield his second but true lightsaber one last time.

Is he ? He failed to build an academy, he didn't see Ben Solo coming to the dark side ? Power is the path to the dark side.

    Wisdom is not power.

whilst i think that we may briefly see Luke throw back some red bull and drop some big force powers... I'm not sure that we will see him as some super duper all powerful Jedi.

A Failed academy and years of self imposed exile.. he may be more broken than Kylo. as i type this i'm wondering if perhaps Luke is so broken that he could have an interesting effect on Kylo if they meet in ep 8.

the word 'committed' in your title @Grand Admiral Kraum may well apply.

Luke was already the greatest in my opinion. At the precipice of total disaster he demonstrated the deepest commitment, and the most serious mind.. he refused to turn to the dark side and threw down his weapon.

Agree. Remember the Skywalker boys - Anakin, Luke and now Ben - are the whiny ones lol.

i don't want to see any star destroyers pulled out of the sky either.

i'd like to see Luke be wise about power. he may have made mistakes with Ben but only perhaps because Ben was family, he was too close, or Snoke was just that sneaky.

i'd like to see Luke be the Jedi ideal. not follow in the footsteps of Mace Windu or feel that the use of force (or Force) is always the answer. if and when he uses his powers, i want to see them used to construct, not destruct. to build, not destroy.

i want Luke to teach us, again, the greater power that is mercy, forgiveness, and peace.

I sadly have to disagree. Sure, I'm all for seeing Luke kick butt, take names and show everyone he's the Master but as things are looking I'm lead to believe that Disney is grooming Rey to be the most powerful Jedi ever. Just seeing what she did in TFA without any master and without any training puts her above Luke in every way. Also, if they give us a Dragon Ball Z crazy powered Kamehameha Luke in the next movie, it's just going to make him seem more like a loser as to why he let such a loser as Kylo Ren and his palls kill all of his students. Kylo is the leader of the Knights of Ren so obviously he's the most powerful one but he was beat by a girl who had never wielded a lightsaber, had no Jedi training and moments before didn't even know the Force was true. When we look at that it really makes us think that the Knights of Ren must be a bunch of loosers that must have sucker punched Luke's students in order for them to have killed them all. Either that or Luke's students were incredibly sucky and Kylo turned the least sucky ones to his side.

Kylo Ren is probably equal or greater in power to Rey (physically he's always going to be greater with or without the Force because he outweighs Rey by 50 pounds ~ hahaha).

he didn't lose that fight because he was weaker in the Force. he lost it exactly for the reason Snoke tells him: he has compassion for her. that, and a giant bowcaster wound and a head full of "oh criminey, i just killed my father!"

i agree that these two have the potential to outstrip Luke in sheer power. but they both need his wisdom and guidance to temper it.

i don't think the thought of killing Rey ever entered his mind. in fact, he even tried to recruit her while they stood saber-2-saber while the planet was cracking up.

Kylo severly injured, just killed his own father, starkiller weapon destroyed, planet breaking up, His Boss had already brought his feelings for Rey into question... and to top it all... he wasn't trying to kill her.

the Mary sue comments really do make me laugh lol

    Greatest as in tallest?

    Hayden Christensen is 6'
    Christopher Lee was 6'5''
    Liam Neeson is 6'4''
    Sam Jackson is 6'2''
    Sebastian Shaw was 6'2''
Silas Carson (Ki Adi Mundi) was 6'3''
    Daisy Ridley is 5'7''
    Mark Hamill is 5'9''
Frank Oz is 6'2'' (He was walking on his knees like Mel Brooks' Yogurt)
    Alec Guiness was 5'10''
    Ewan McGregor is 5'10''

If we exclude Daisy Ridley (She's not a Jedi yet)... well, at 5'9'', Luke is the smallest Jedi ever.

From a certain point of view.

I do agree about Rey meant to be the most powerful force sensitive being ever.

Well I have no reason to believe Luke would leave the light side for a second after Jedi (I haven't read any new canon though). But surely he would have kept in contact with Yoda's and Obi-Wan's and possibly even Anakin's force ghosts, so he could have kept training and learning. I think we'd like to see a pretty powerful Luke. Not god-like, but certainly more powerful than any Jedi/force user around. And I'm sure there could still be ways to put Luke to test and to struggle, which I kind of want to see. Additionally, we don't know sh*t about Snoke, who knows how powerful the guy is.

I get a funny scene in mind reading your lines @FN-3263827:
Snoke as impressive figure confronting Luke and his fellows with Luke's "weakness" once more and pointing out what Luke has thrown away in his opinion. Luke just standing there staring straight through Snoke like the Dark figure in front of him wouldn't be there at all. Snoke getting angry asks Luke what's wrong with him. Luke with a stoic answer:"Could you be so kind and step aside.. You cast a long shadow. We need some light!":).
Luke the real wise guy in SW galaxy.

i'd love to see Luke this confident! and humbly righteous, of course.

a long time ago (in a Cantina post far far away) @JediMasterRobert suggested defeating Snoke by healing him. i still love that idea.

That would be so awesome! And so right...the Force should be used for such things. I'd love to see sort of the antithesis of Force lightning--taking it back and turning it to its Lightful purpose. ;)
