I read something on reddit a few days ago that sparked a theory in my head.

What if Kylo was originally Luke's pupil?

Flashback: Luke returns to his Jedi Temple to find that his students have been slain by the Knights of Ren and Kylo was taken. Kylo, being young and confused is raised by Snoke in the image of Darth Vader. Snoke may or may not have had a history with Vader due to his place as "Supreme Leader" within the first order.

Han and Leia are furious at Luke and each other and this bridges a gap between our beloved trio.

Luke leaves and is not seen again until the end of the film. Han and Chewbacca go back to their roots. Leia becomes vein and militant.

By the start of TFA, Leia realizes that she needs her brothers help.

Not sure where Rey falls into this or if she will even be related to the Solo family hence Daisy's apparent hatred for the "are you Han Solo's daughter?" question.

Anyhow, this would make a whole lot more sense to me than Luke turning into an emo kid and giving up on his greater callings. It would also be an emotional "call to action" for Luke for Episode 8. I've thought about this a lot and I just don't see Luke running away from the Galaxy in need and abandoning his friends without a traumatic event occurring and driving a gap between the three. It would be out of character for Luke to do this without a good reason.

Picture this ending to the film and let's speculate and say that maybe Rey was trained by Luke.

The falcon lands upon a beautiful island. Luke's theme is softly playing in the background and builds up as the scene progresses. Rey looks out towards a temple like structure. She walks up the stone steps towards a hooded figure. Cut to Luke Skywalker who drops his hood and gives Rey a sly smile. He says something Ben Kenobi like. Credits roll.

This would be a perfect amount of Luke for me in this film.

This is more or less my take as well. Although I'm still not certain Luke is "all there" anymore. I believe the "who is Luke Skywalker" question will loom over what happened to drive him away and his supposed hermitage.
