In the old EU Cade Skywalker was a descendant of Luke Skywalker. He was a bounty hunter, smuggler, pirate and he was once a Jedi Knight.

I won’t go any further into his backstory. You can read it up yourself: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cade_Skywalker

However this is the interesting part about Cade Skywalker's story:
„[…] Cade was being haunted by the force ghost of his ancestor Luke Skywalker, who was pleading for Cade to return to his Jedi legacy. However, Cade was growing increasingly agitated with these visitations, using death sticks to block them out, and even going so far as threatening to end his own life.“

    dd22372263b8a641b345c0beb367cb97.jpg

Now let’s go back to Kylo and Luke. Luke's last words to Kylo were:

    Luke-See-You-Around.gif

So we can assume that Luke will probably appear to Kylo in EPIX.

In my opinion Luke should haunt Kylo exactly like his counterpart in the old EU did with Cade. => Kylo is trying to block his uncle, but he fails and he is slowly getting insane because of that.

You can also use this for the sake of comedy. Luke could make jokes about Kylo's way of trying to deal with the FO etc.
"Wow. You're doing a gread job as leader, kid."

But this whole haunting stuff should mainly be used as a serious plot device. IMO this would be a much more satisfying route to take than using Luke’s force ghost as guide for Rey.

Alternatively you could use Anakin’s force ghost instead of Luke’s.

There is so much great stuff in those Legacy comics. This version of Luke was definitely one of them, though I always wondered whether these visions really were drug induced. And he really was a nuisance for Cade. It would be interesting if indeed Luke would shape shift into Anakin and Han and perhaps Leia (or at least present them as image to Kylo) when he confronts Kylo in IX. Him appearing as a force ghost to Kylo would in any case be a significant change to how force ghosts have been presented previously

As for Star Wars legacy, I always loved the idea of Cade going undercover with the Sith, the imperial versus imperial type of war, the imperial knights, and especially the whole idea of pirates. I'm a big pirate fan, read secondary literature, read original sources, played games (AC Black Flag) and absolutely love Black Flags. I never understood why they ditched the concept of a Star Wars pirate game. In the second series, where they focused on Ania Solo, the main antagonist was person who went undercover with the Imperial knights/Jedi and the Sith, simply to destroy them both. It reminds me so much of Kylo's "I'm going to destroy all of it" motivation.

Much like many real people take them to "stop" their own demons. Doesn't mean it worked.

And sometime it makes it worse. I think that was the geste I got when reading those comics back in the day. I believe he also sees Anakin and his father Kol in these sort of drug dips.

I would be shocked if JJ Abrams didn't go this route to be honest, especially with some of the fan backlash for TLJ. It's one of the few ways they can actually address one of those complaints without having to ret-con anything.

Seeing the film in the theater, I just accepted that it was the last we'll see of Luke, and that he was speaking sort of figuratively, and was clearly a call-back to Kenobi. Because he doesn't say, as Kenobi does, that he'll come back if he gets killed. He says "strike me down and I'll always be with you, just like your father." It's a metaphor. Han Solo isn't literally haunting him, but psychologically he is. So, "see you around kid," sort of meant "...in your nightmares."

But looking at it now, it would not be a stretch to interpret this more literally. And JJ Abrams does love to please fans to a certain degree. And I do like the idea of Luke sort of taunting Kylo Ren, knowing that Kylo can't just get rid of him. It would be a bit like the Reylo connection scenes in TLJ.

They're going to have a hell of a time keeping this a secret though, because Mark Hamill is going to have to grow his hair back. Or has he still kept it? When the film came out he looked sort of the same, but I saw him in person after they had wrapped filming and he was clean shaven. I wonder if they are telling him to just keep the beard for the next year so no one suspects anything, "just tell everyone you liked the look so much you decided to keep it for a while this time."

Furthermore if Luke is always with Kylo, we won't waste screen time on different characters.

I don't think they will keep Mark Hamill's appearance in IX a secret. He already teased his return on Twitter.

what an opportunity JJ has here.. to tie the whole saga together. 3 generations of Skwalker on screen at the same time.

I'd love to see Hayden back for some scenes in ep 9.
yeah.. they wouldn't bother trying to keep his involvement secret. if anything, they'll go the other way and be quite open about Luke being in the film.

It would make sense, I'd imagine Kylo's version of the mirror sequence seeing himself reflected in Anakin. I hope they'll make these Luke/Anakin haunt Kylo scary....I mean really really scary!

As for Luke being in the film. I hope they are going to keep him behind curtains as much as possible until release. We don't want anyone misusing and misquoting his honesty again! :p

This is different though compared to TFA and or TLJ. It's not like it's a spoiler. Hell, he said it himself. It was a subtle, but I believe it was also fourth wall breaking. The moment he says "see you around, kid." He also teased about it with a panel comic, saying #foreshadowing. The panel had a JJ Abrams lens flare on it.

#confirmed. :p Well I hope he is. If they do recognize he's in it, then at least I hope they will be absolutely silent about what he'll be doing in it.

Well it's not a 100% confirmed... but he would already be a Jedi Master at trolling if it turns out to be false.

I 100% expect to see Luke in IX in some capacity. As for the beard, I'm not sure if ghosts can shave lol. Would it really matter if he was clean shaven? I would assume ghosts can appear how they want, or to their own preference. I would however expect him to keep the same look throughout, otherwise it would be confusing seeing bearded Luke, clean shaven Luke, moustache Luke ect... in varying scenes.

I hope scary, but I get the impression it would be a mix of funny with spooky elements. I don't think LFL would delve too much into the horror for the kiddies sake.

The inclusion of Mark will be a selling point of IX, keeping him out of trailers would be like keeping Superman out of JL trailers, it would be stupid to do and a detriment to the movie. (Yes I realize SM was kept out of the JL movie.)

I just got a scary thought.

As funny as it would be, am I the only one who can see LFL spoof this and make Kylo line his windows and doors with rock salt? lol

Well, I think Luke's role will be more like Obi-Wan: dump all the truth in one little scene.

Both forceback scenes of TFA and TLJ were already very horror like. So, they definitely could make it scary.

Mark/Luke won't be the selling point of IX. The conlusion and tying up of the whole sage will be the selling point. I can already see the first teaser of EPIX which will include scenes of all previous movies.

This would be the safest bet.
I didn't say Thee, I said "a" selling point. I'm fairly certain they'll try and attract fans from all viewpoints to maximize profits, and like it or not, a lot of OT fans will go if Luke looks to be a part of it all.

Oh no, he will definitely be kept a secret. I know it could make a big selling point, but it would also be a huge spoiler. I don't think it would be key to the plot, and the role would be small, because it simply isn't his story. Sort of like Kenobi in Empire Strikes Back, two small moments and one big one. But, like Yoda in TLJ, I would assume it would be top secret. Advertising his involvement would create unfair expectation, and in terms of "good faith" for fans that didn't like TLJ it works best if everyone watching the films realises it for the first time, like with Yoda in TLJ. Like I said, I don't think it would be a very big part, because the film will have lots to do and Luke's story is mostly over anyway. He could probably film all his stuff on a green screen in a single day like Alec Guiness did for Empire.
