SPECULATION Luke's Lack of Beard Continuity

    I was thinking about this again tonight...why didn't Mark's contractually obligated beard stay a standard length through filming?

    The best I can come up with is that he really has so few scenes that they took care of all of them in a very short period of filming and then had him continue to grow a beard throughout production so as to not give away when he was done and obscure how much he actually is in the film.

    What's strange though is why they wouldn't still have it stay a uniform length.
    The only other thing I can think of is that they legitimately overlooked it and forgot to keep it uniform...that seems pretty odd though.

    So, thoughts? Is it a coincidence, conspiracy, or calculated move?

    It seems obvious that his beard will be super long at one point in the film at least, then cropped at a certain length for the rest.

    He just has to roll up to set and they'll start clipping away at the beard, so there was no need for him to maintain it himself. I imagine we saw him during his breaks, so that's why it looked different all the time.

    Anyway I imagine this will be his initial unkept look:

    I read somewhere that Mark had to film some scenes clean shaven. The rumor said that he would appear, just in time, to fight the villain. He would be a "reawakened" Luke.

    I'm sure they just told Hamill to grow it as long as he could up to filming. Then when they needed him they trimmed it own to what they wanted for the movie. You guys are looking into it way too much. He's probably not in the movie as much as the young cast an didn't have as many days of shooting.

    Pulling threads together, he's only in the finale, and Han is there too so those scenes got pushed back because of Harrison Ford's injury, and so the beard grew and grew reaching peak beard at Skelig Michael ;-) Different beard lengths would be a continuity nightmare!! I doubt they'd forget that.
    Apparently he also did a day or two filming after shaving it off, 80% he crawls out of his Sith castle and cleans himself up for the first day on the job at the new Jedi academy for the Padawans cast, 20% he dies and is a force ghost/
    Does the shaved off beard get to be its own independent force-beard-ghost?? ;-)
