They can't control their emotions then ... It's the first path to the sith way.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.

Very true. Im stating however that you need love for compassion. And I don't just meant marriage as relationship. For instance look at how Ahsoka left the Jedi temple and her and Anakin were super close. That definitely had an effect on Anakin yet feeling he had attachment towards Ahsoka would be against the Jedi code. That's not human. That's robotic. Yet Anakin felt he must've been breaking th Jedi code for feeling bad about Ashoka. That's just plain stupid to have fear of loss be against the code. Instead it should be denying that you're fearful of loss should be against and accepting your fear of loss and moving on should be encouraged.

But love is not forbidden by the Jedi. As Anakin says "we're encouraged to love".
The problem with the Jedi wasn't the code - it was that they hadn't seen how things had changed around them and they became too entrenched in Republic affairs.
What Luke needs to do is take the Jedi BACK - back to the simplicity of the code. And I think this is what the FIRST JEDI TEMPLE is about. He has gone back there to the old ways. No modern distractions. Just a very pure connection with the Force through the discipline of the Jedi code.

What is being suggested is that the Jedi suddenly allow relationships, children etc. All because Luke redeemed his father.
It's skewing the point being made. Luke did the Jedi thing and actually LET GO OF HIS ATTACHMENTS.
He did the right thing by following the code of the Jedi.

What I want Luke do is create a way so that Light side force users are able to determine the way and will of the Force better. I do not think having certain attachments prevent connection with the light side. Attachments are not obsessions. I believe that he removes the idea of Jedi from the lexicon. Just as the Dark force users are no longer Sith. Likewise Light Force users can no longer be Jedi.

Absolutely no, but perhaps he could discover some ancient truths in the first jedi temple planet... ;)

I think one of the things that has to change in a New Jedi Order is the training of Jedi. Basically, I think Luke should move away from training children. Both Luke and now Rey had no conscious knowledge of the force while they were children, so that clearly isn't needed to become a Jedi. Learn to be a selfless individual first, then be trained in the ways of the light side of the force. You need both to be a Jedi anyway.

Or "wrong" judging by the Order's of longevity in this galaxy! ;)
I hope Luke doesn't take a fundamentalist approach to training. I came across this gem of paragraph on dogmatism and sacred texts on a blog recently that may apply here...

"Ironically, the mindset that our sacred texts are perfect betrays the very quest that drove our ancestors to write those texts. Each of the men who wrote part of the Bible, Quran, or Gita took his received tradition, revised it, and offered his own best articulation of what is good and real.
We can honor the quest of our spiritual ancestors, or we can honor their answers, but we cannot do both."
How selfless is Rey! I would imagine growing up in conditions of such physical, emotional (and nutritional) scarcity would make me pretty greedy...

In an ontologic way love have nothing to do with the attraction of two people, it's a state of mind of acceptation. The love between two people is passion.

I'm really surprised to how far people can go in their will of Rey being Luke's daughter.

    Run! Yes. A Jedi's strength
flows from the Force. But beware
of the dark side. Anger... fear...
    aggression. The dark side of
    the Force are they.
Easily they flow, quick to join
    you in a fight.

Acting on one's fears is the greatest danger to a Jedi. Had Luke acted on his fears in ROTJ as the Emperor had hoped, Luke would have fallen to the Dark Side. It was bad enough that he touched on the Dark Side to defeat his father....but Palpatine wanted Luke to finish by making the conscious choice of killing Vader.

Palpatine presented Luke with a false choice: Only the Dark Side can save you and your friends. Luke won by making the choice he had in ESB, he kept his faith in the Force (and his friends) instead. The Force rewarded him both times.

i agree with this, but i also think where this story is going is toward a "love conquers all" thing. i don't mean that cynically. i think they can make it work, but it does call into question the "path" and "dogma" and all of that.

    they become deacons.

seriously. if you draw parallels between the Jedi order to the Catholic Church (and please, let's not get political or nasty about this, it's just a metaphor); the priesthood requires absolute sacrifice. men who can't serve as priests may become deacons (who can be married, etc.). this is a level of commitment the Jedi seem to lack.

i feel like Luke is a priest of the Order. but maybe the way he changes it is to allow the formation of a diaconate: "ordained" Jedi who occupy a less ascetic tier.

-Don't get involved in political affairs. Having their Temple on the capital planet of the Old Republic, and regularly interacting wit political leadership, was probably not a good idea in the long run. If Planet Skellig Michael is meant to be the First Jedi Temple, then it's much more remote and hard to get to, away from the affairs of state.

-No taking kids from their families at VERY young ages, and essentially indoctrination them with your philosophy their entire lives. If they join it should be THEIR choice.

-Allow dissenting opinions/viewpoints, and listen to/treat them with respect.

-Do away with the no attachment rule. There's no reason why, given his experiences, Luke would agree with that. And there's ZERO reason for Rey to either. It was a poorly-thought out retcon so that GL could do his "doomed forbidden romance" nonsense with Anakin and Padme. Jedi shouldn't go out of their way to seek out romance/attachments. But if it should find them, then it should not be discouraged out of hand. "Will of the Force" and all that.

-Be more flexible and less dogmatic overall.

    -Etc.

And yes, I do believe that Luke looking for the FJT is important. That he was maybe trying to understand how the OG Jedi did things and became so powerful/wise to begin with, and were it might have all started to go wrong along the way.

The main issue with the Jedi Code wasn't the code by itself but how could peacetakers could WIN A WAR by following the code.

It has nothing to do with the attachment rules or whatever.

Attachment leads to emotions and it's the first part of the jedi code.

How could someone not obsessed by the Luke's lineage can deny it ?

You don't have neutral judgement anymore if you feel emotions and the jedi way is to be neutral to everyone.

It's the very point. A jedi has to treat everybody the same way. A slaver or even a sith.

When Palpatine told Anakin to kill Dooku, he answered this is not the jedi way and then he'll let his emotions prevail.

And you don't treat your family the same way you treat other people. It leads to passion not love.
