That young guy is indeed canonical Anakin Skywalker, like it or not.

Also people from Tatooine are seen wearing many different types of clothes. So I would not call that a Tatooine clothes. Also Yoda is wearing similar robes.
That robes is definitely always supposed to be a jedi standard robes.

Ugh, the laziness of just pasting Hayden's face on to Sebastian's body...

Correct, but maybe it was the best way to do it, to avoid to destroy the whole scene.
It seems that only Christensens face was used.
    Let's take a look:

Actualy it is confirmed by Lucas back then that whole body is replaced not just a head.
Lucas used one of the early ROTS test shoots for that scene.

I never understood why did he put Hayden Christensen in that shot. 18-19 years have passed since RoTS. Why should he look the same in that picture? Anakin Skywalker who redeemed himself was not the same hotshot young man, but a grown-up old man in his 40's. I found it always incredibly unbelievable and anachronistic to see him at his "prime" in that scene, in one of GL's many director's cut versions (and I think I have 3 of them).

I suspect that George Lucas don't know what he is retelling. (I don't trust his words anymore, he is changing stories now and then)
Don't get me wrong, I like and respect him, but I don't trust his words.
"The body movement and clothes are the same" it's Sebastians Shaws body, no doubt.
It's known that they used a testshot from Hayden Christensen.
They recognized, that it was the best way to avoid the destruction of the whole scene with Yoda and Obi Wan.
I guess this debate will go on, but without me my friend, to each his own and now back to the topic.
I want a bad ass looking Luke Skywalker with a yellow lightsaber. ;)

Because Anakin never been that person. Anakin never been some old normal looking guy in jedi robes. He was young when he become disfigured on Mustafar.
20 years he was disfigured bald man in a suit. He never been old Jedi.

Also Shaw was to old for Anakin. Anakin is only like 20 years older in ROTJ. And Shaw was like 80 years old in ROTJ.

Also modern audience is more familiar with young Anakin. Fot them image of Hayden they have in head when someone mentions Anakin Skywalker.

So in my opinion this new scene makes more sense.

Allow me to disagree with you. I can honour your opinion but I cannot agree with your reasoning. Let's just leave it there.

Anyway, I think it will be cool to see Luke in traditional robes. Like many before me, I too think he will be wisened, old and experienced Jedi and maybe he will look a bit like Jedis in the prequels. I am not so interested if he wears a lightsaber in this movie. It could even be that he has given it up and will only practice passive resistance when we find him. Also, I'm not too bothered if he is a bit like Obi-Wan. In any case, this saga will focus on Finn, Rey and Poe. Him being a wise mentor just makes more sense. I also though that is what Mark Hamil expected himself when he first learnt that GL wanted to make sequels to SW - that he would be more in a supporting role and not a star of the action?

Edit. Corrected a few typos and added Mark Hamil's name.

Luke gave up the idea of looking "bad ass" when he tossed his lightsabre aside in ROTJ and declared himself a Jedi (truly at the moment becoming one).

I lump these special editions in with Jar Jar and the Sun Crusher

    so so bad

The Phantom Menace is okay but "I like sand" and "Yippee!" is blasphemous to say the least, Anakin is a creep

To me, when Anakin dies in ROTJ, he's dying a Jedi. The man we see as a ghost was the man he could have been, the man that Luke helped him realize, if only for a few short moments. The bizarre logic Lucas used to insert Christensen into the shot (in a lazy and shortsighted attempt to 'tie the saga together') doesn't compute at all.

1.it's disrespectful to the actor Sebastian Shaw
2.Luke wouldn't recognize the young Anakin. (Luke saw his father unmasked)
3.Vader/Anakin saved Luke and sacrificed his life for him. This was the Shaw Anakin, not the Hayden one.
4.Seeing Christensen with long hair is like seeing evil Anakin, but seeing Shaw is like seeing redemption.

    from a YouTube poster:

As much as Lucas likes to justify his reasoning for changing Anakin's ghost as "returning Anakin to the last time he was good", the real reasons he did it was to fashion the original movies to support his new viewpoint of Star Wars as a six-part Tragedy of Darth Vader, and so kids can recognize the hero Anakin they love from the prequels/Clone Wars. I personally wouldn't have a problem with the change if it wasn't for how lazy it was done. They took the head of Hayden from an Episode III screen test and just plopped it into the movie, hence the strange looking around and creepy pedo smile. If Lucas and co. were gonna add in Hayden, then they should have gone the full-length and filmed footage exclusively for the scene, like McDiarmid's Emperor in Episode V. Because of how lazy and unconvincing the new ghost looks, I prefer the older one.

@D-green to each his own, I pefer the Sebastian Shaw Anakin in RotJ and you the Hayden Christensen one.
The only good argument for the change is, the younger audience will be satisfied.
The Kids who grew up with the PT, if they watch it in the new chronology I till VI.

By the way I thought this thread was about Luke's Outfit and appearence in TFA.

As for Luke outfit. In my opinion he looks to similar to Obi-Wan.
Some change in look would be nice. I like jedi robes. But not all jedi robes look indentical as Obi-Wan robes.
Some different details, maybe colour would be nice.

I disagree. To me new scene is more logical.
It is more logical for Anakin to use form of him last time when he was Indeed Jedi, Anakin and healthy person, before all mistakes he made.
That is Anakin that really existed. He really reverted into the form when he had potential to be the greatest jedi ever.

That other form is imagination. Anakin that never existed. Complete fiction.
    --- Double Post Merged, Oct 17, 2015, Original Post Date: Oct 17, 2015 ---
    1. It is really not. Shaw was really only a cameo in ROTJ. And all his scenes are there minus that short non speaking scene.
    2. Luke only has seen disfigured bald man. And that person in force ghost form looked nothing like him. So for Luke there is no difference.
    3. Anakin is not Shaw. Anakin is Anakin. It is all supposed to be the same person. And Anakin was disfigured, bald man without limbs when he died. He looked nothing like Shaw normaly looks.
    4. Not really. Young Anakin was also good. And seeing him I think of all things he is done good in prequels movies and clone wars series.
Shaw brings nothing, at least not to me.

Best post so far in this thread for me!
One of the funniest quotes I have ever read here in this forum thanks @D-green :D

Shaw as Anakin looks at Yoda and Obi Wan in this one, then he looks to Luke and smiles.

I don't know why, but I like the old stuff better, I guess I grew up with it. ;)

I have a theory that it was because George already had plans in place to do the sequel trilogy even before finishing Ep3, which he then took major steps towards after finishing ROTS even going as far as starting plans for building his own sound stages to film it in (he even started bidding on land to build it on, but that's a whole other fascinating story) and he placed Anakin's ghost there so that Anakin could eventually return somewhere in the sequel trilogy. I think that's why rumors of Christensen's return in the Disney sequel trilogy starting popping up recently.

Oh please! No Vader (and Hayden Christensen) in the sequels! He is dead.
