Luke just. Stopped the 1st Order from the wiping out the last remnants of the resistance. His whole 3rd act depiction was Luke getting his Mojo (HOPE) back. Hope came back, He is no longer the last Jedi.

I understand that people wanted to see exalted master Luke never again face adversity and have any personal conflicts. As if in 40 years the transition from Jedi trainee to master would go off without a hiccup. But despite his moment of despair and consequence which is probably the crux of the complaints about Luke. He still ended up saving the day and delivering on the Hope you are talking about.

LOL. I. know. I. essentially. wrote/predicted. that. scene. in 2016.

These extra comments go way beyond my simple casting announcement request.

Perhaps they speak to someone else in this thread.

What I'm talking about in my OP is simply having Mark Hamill announced as returning as Luke Skywalker in terms of casting.

The "hope" I allude to is hoping to see the original "New Hope" again, just as we saw Obi-Wan again in V and VI, that is all.

That is a brilliant idea a story based around the premise could be incredible, different and in keeping with the story up t this point!

I guess the difference is people wanted that adventure/mission with Luke Skywalker Jedi master, and have been dreaming of it for 30 years. It would be very difficult to pull off that with Luke as a force ghost, so there is a difference.

I take your point though you can still use Luke in a cool way in episode 9. Its yet to be seen whether they are going to push what we have seen from force ghosts in the past which effectively have been cameos, to giving one a story arc.

I just don't see Luke's appearance being a big twist no matter where it happens in the film. I pretty much expect it to happen, so I would not be surprised at all. I would be more surprised if it doesn't happen.
