Luke's RotJ Lightsaber

    So one question I still have after multiple viewings is about Luke's green lightsaber that is shown in the visions of him and Ben. In RoTJ we see Luke toss his lightsaber rather than striking down Vader and at no point do we see him retrieve that lightsaber. In the visions depicting the confrontation between Ben and Luke, we see the same lightsaber Luke had in RoTJ. Can we assume Luke rebuilt the same lightsaber he had in RoTJ or is this just an oversight? [​IMG]

    @srg : technically, Husky Runner was true : we never see Luke retrieve that lightsaber, I mean, pick that saber up and fasten it to its belt. ;) ;) ;)

    I wonder where the lightsaber is now. Did Luke lock it away or even destroyed it after Ben turned on him? Will we see it again? Maybe a redeemed Kylo Ren uses his uncle's weapon?

    I had always just assumed Luke rebuilt it similar to how Anakin had to build his new lightsaber after his first one was destroyed on Geonosis. It's nice to see that isn't the case because seeing Luke's lightsaber in RoTJ really threw me off and kind of bugged me since I thought it was left on the second Death Star.

    The Caretakers have it, along with Luke's other belongin's in their 'Archive' of sorts.
    This in the last chapter or so of the TLJ novelizarions.

    I didn't know that. I wonder if this could possibly mean Rey will travel back to Ach-To one last time to retrieve Luke's belongings, similar to how Luke returned to Dagobah in RoTJ.

    The way it's worded (they took his "weapon") is very safe and could still mean a different kind of weapon... I can't wait for a solid confirmation regarding what happened to the RotJ lightsaber. It looks like they don't want to reveal that yet.

    Well, that'd be my kind of fan service. :) Would love that to happen. On the other hand, though... it would be a bit awkward for obvious reasons... :p

    I kinda wish Force projection Luke used his green lightsaber, even though him using the blue one is a nice, symbolic acceptance after the two rejections earlier in the film. The reason against the green one that I'd be the most comfortable with is that Luke saw it as a symbol of his failure and shame. It's possible that it was indeed a part of the reasoning, but I haven't seen Rian mention it.

    I think the blue is far more iconic at a wider cultural level. I think most people will think of and remember the red vs blue. It's that image which has entered the public consciousness and probably why it's more fitting for Luke's sabre to be blue.

    This makes sense, however that green vs red from the battle on the death star is just as iconic for me.

    Sure, it is for you, but ask your average viewer "what colour is Luke Skywalker's lightsaber" and I suspect most would say blue.

    Do you think the fact Kylo and Rey have broken the blue saber (heir of Anakin) in TLJ might involve that we will hear of the green RotJ one in Ep IX ? Maybe...

    I don't agree. If you send your car into the ditch, you cannot blame the steering wheel and make it a symbol of your failure ;)
