Main Kylo Ren/Adam Driver Episode IX Thread

I like this. I feel he needs some kind of transformation, something that cuts him down a bit, and this kind of thing would be it.

 

In regard to Kylo Ren’s repaired helmet, Star Wars Explained did a fantastic video speculating on it. (Apologies if it’s already been posted here.)

I’m a “Bendemption” supporter and I believe that Kylo will embrace the past and instead of going completely light, he’ll finally balance the light and the dark within him. Seeing Captain America finally wielding Thor’s hammer in Avengers: Endgame makes me imagine seeing Kylo finally being worthy of the Skywalker lightsaber. We saw the lightsaber choose Rey over Kylo when he tried to pull it towards him in The Force Awakens and it was literally torn in half when he tried to pull it away from Rey in The Last Jedi. I predict we’ll get another scene of him trying to pull the lightsaber towards him in The Rise of Skywalker, but this time it’ll land in the hands of a redeemed Ben Solo. It’d also be fitting as it would mirror the last film of the Prequel Trilogy where the lightsaber was taken away from a Skywalker and it would wind up back in the hands of one in the last film of the Sequel Trilogy.

Part of me hopes Kylo lives through this trilogy... just so we can see him TRANSFORMED in a future trilogy 20-30 years from now

 

The helmet could metaphorically represent Kylo I guess. Broken but pieced back together.

 

So regarding the fixed mask...

Apparently Kylo can't kill Rey. Only when he opens up to the dark side, he has the power. So the KOR (and Kylo himself?) reforge the helmet. Kylo is hiding again.

 

Yeah it's his confidence so to speak.

 

Speaking of that...isn't it odd that Rey told Kylo to take his mask off and he was fine with it.

But Han and Snoke tells him to and he loses his mind.

These are quite different situations.

Rey is literally tied down while Kylo is interrogating her. He holds all the power in this situation and also Rey never actually tells Kylo to remove his mask. While Han and Snoke both directly tell Kylo to take off his mask, which puts him in a more vulnerable position. And we all know that Kylo isn't exactly the most stable person when he's not in control.

 

Not directly she didn't. She called him a creature in a mask. Then he removes it.

 

That's exactly what I mean. Kylo chose to take off his mask in front of Rey which is quite different from Han's "Take off that mask you don't need it." and Snoke's "take that ridiculous thing off".

 

Physically, within the context of the room they were in, he did hold the upper hand. But not emotionally and in terms of the Force because by the end of the scene Rey has gotten in his head and she is able to reveal his most raw, vulnerable secret -- that he is afraid he will never be as strong as Darth Vader. By the end, she clearly has the upper hand in the situation.

Kylo Ren is my favorite character in all of Star Wars. I know that may be an outlandish thing to say in the SW community these days, but he is and some part of that has to do with Adam Driver's portrayal.

Kylo is clearly a very broken person. He is lonely, isolated, conflicted, and utterly miserable. He somehow holds onto the darkness when really it's the light that keeps blindsiding him. He wants so badly to belong to an organization that he doesn't have much care for because I think more than anything, he simply wants to find a belonging.

He wants a belonging like Rey wants one. He sees her, this other force user, and is immediately captivated by her. Not scared. Not repulsed. Not angry. Intrigued. Through their connection, he realizes that she is lonely too, that she is clinging onto the hope of a lost family that may never come back.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to be able to experience a character like Kylo Ren in a major blockbuster trilogy. His backstory, his personal conflicts, his relationship with Rey -- it's all very tragic and beautiful at the same time. I hope he lives through this trilogy. I hope Ben Solo lives to tell the tale.

 

This is what will happen next time Rey sees Kylo wearing the helmet...

 

You know, there is a lot of focus on Rey as a character...etc. I agree with you I like Kylo as a character. He's complicated, he's not easily understood. He's a hot mess. He has reason to be pissed, however, he also has reason to be good. What Adam Driver does with is facial expressions is remarkable. I'm impressed.

I can truly understand why fans would struggle to like the ST if they don't take to Kylo Ren in some way like a lot of us have. He really is a hot mess!

i think i feel the same way. not sure.. i might like Ben Solo even more

 

Felt like posting this here because maybe it'll happen in TROS, or something similar. I really dislike Kylo Ren, but denying that he'll probably have some sort of redemption arc (despite my personal belief that he doesn't WANT to be redeemed) would be ignorant of me. So...
