Honestly, I’d be very surprised if Kylo donned the mask for a significant chunk of TROS. Each consecutive movie of the sequel trilogy has illustrated him maskless for longer time periods. I highly doubt that the filmmakers would spend all that time developing his character, especially his maskless Force bond scenes with Rey, only to have him revert back to the “creature in a mask.”

Having Adam Driver maskless humanizes his character and it also would makes his redemption more tangible.

Kylo will fix his mask in the first act of the movie and then only wear it on Pasana together with his KOR. At least that's my speculation.

I am glad at the possibility of the return of his mask. He’s so mich more powerful with the mask, confident too. I hope to get the Rise of Skywalker Kylo Mask for Dec 20th.

I love the design of the mask! I wish it was like that from the beginning. I really don't think they would heavily promote the mask and only use it for one scene. It bodes the question then what happens to the mask? Did it get destroyed by Kylo again?

I think the best outcome for Kylo’s mask is Rey cuts it off or damages it much in same way Vader’s mask was cleaved to pieces in SW: Rebels by Ahsoka Tano.

Maybe Kylo actually doesn't want to wear it again. The KOR reforge the mask and force Kylo to wear it. As soon as Kylo breaks with the knights, he doesn't wear it.

KOR are like “put on the mask fool! Without it you ain’t cool!” (Mr. T, A-Team voice).

Kylo: I have to let it all die.. the Jedi, the Knights of Ren.. the Snoke Brothers.. all of it.

    KOR: “It’s treason then..”

    Kylo discards mask.

Kylo: I am the Supreme Commander! You are nothing!

*Kylo bests the KOR using the Force and His crossguard ligjtsaber*

Kylo: Now.. you will serve me, and help me find her.

KOR: Yes Supreme Commamder. All hail the Commander!

    END of Scene

I think we'll see a masked Kylo for maybe the first act or less of TROS, tbh, and I think it'll be on and off during that time, but that's just my thinking on the topic.

I love the mask, but I also love Adam's face, so.

I concur. The mask will be featured for 1/3 or 1/2 of the film and then be damaged or discarded.

Kylo seems more confident with the mask and certainly more powerful. But if he is to move beyond the shadow of Vader and become a Sith Acolyte, he must become confident without the mask. Unless of course he gets injured like Vader and Darth Malgus, then he would need respirator mask.

What if Kylo is developed to actually need the mask? He is not wearing it when he plants/slams whoever it is that he slams in the first TROS footage we got, or when he battles Rey amid the sea storm on the Death Star(?) wreckage in the D23 footage, but what if he suffers some damage to his face in that fight that is more severe that what Rey left him with at the end of TFA... so that, like his grandfather before him, the mask is once again needed to hide his injuries and his shortcomings?

Admittedly, the story doesn't seem to be set-up that way... unless the whole ST is supposed to mirror that of the PT and be the story of the complete fall, rather than redemption, of Ben Solo.

Who knows. I'd be interesting. Although it would be Anakin's story over again.

I so want Kylo to remain different from Vader. Vader was confident and cruel, Kylo deals with insecurity and seeking to live up to his bloodline. I personally enjoy Kylo’s struggle to measure up and his goal of being free of the expectations; and yet hiw can Vader’s Heir Apparent escape the capes shadow?

Its like poetry. It rhymes. [UGH.]

I agree that he is quite interesting and I have said repeatedly on these boards that Kylo Ren is the Anti-Luke... He is what Luke could have become had he killed his own father when the opportunity presented itself.

I like your Anti-Luke description. A chance to see what might of been. I have ruminated about Kylo’s fall, and Luke standing over him ready to slay him is definitely just cause to flee the Jedi Order. This was puzzling because Luke kept trying to find good in his Father, but is ready to slice and dice his nephew over a momentary feeling of darkness. To this hypocrisy I point Master Luke to the following evidence of his own more severe dark moment:

It was in fear of what he saw Kylo would become, and he refers to it in relation to Obi Wan being responsible for training the jedi that became Darth Vader. He just doesn't want it to happen again, with all the pain and death that follows.

For a brief moment he thinks he can stop it, and not create a new Vader, but "it passed like i fleeting shadow". I never understood the problems people have with that scene. The Vader-hand thingy of course is pivotal for his development but i doesn't make him immune to making mistakes.

But instead of a redeemed but unmasked Anakin we get a redeemed but masked Ben.
Keeping the mask on to prevent shaming his mother in public and then goes into exile without most of the galaxy knowing who he really was.

I can't help but wonder if "let the past die" schtick from Kylo is actually from ROTJ Luke in the throne room. I remember Lucas saying once that Luke was ignoring both his mentors (what the Jedi wanted) and the emperor and Vader wanted. Not killing Vader or turning to the dark side, but finding a new way by saving Vader. I can't say that it's like Rey's situation- she may ignore Luke's warnings, but it turns out later that she was wrong (at least about Kylo for the moment). Also, she takes Jedi texts, preserving them. Luke doesn't even really do that. He constructs his own lightsaber, sure. (I'm not sure how he does it without direction from Obi-Wan or Yoda, but let's assume that he figures it out). In that sense, I think that Luke actually might be killing the past in a way by redefining what a Jedi should be, even though there are some contradictions between ESB and ROTJ.

ESB: Yoda: A Jedi uses the force for defense, never attack.

ROTJ: Yoda: You must confront Vader.
    .......
Luke (when talking with Obi-wan): I can't kill my own father.

I agree that Luke certainly forged his own path, which Kylo up until now, has also wanted to do. However, given the abundant use of the name "Sith" in TRoS, it may seem as though Kylo has abandoned all the "let the past die" talk.

KYLO: Let the past die... kill it if you must!

REY: [Both through her words and subsequent actions: No.]

KYLO: Fine! Be that way! I was just trying to trick you anyway! I am going home to play by myself with my new elite band of "Sith Troopers"! I bet you thought my Knights of Ren are cool, but some of my Sith Troopers can even fly! Ha! I will never, ever, let you play with either of them... they are MINE! By the way, I am a Sith Lord now. I didn't really mean what I said about letting the past die. I AM EMBRACING ALL OF THE PAST! It is my legacy! ... From my grandfather. Not just that lightsaber, but ALL OF IT! IT IS ALL MINE!!!

    REY:
... Uh, I don't know how to tell you this, but I just found out Emperor Palpatine was my grandfather...

    KYLO:
