Main Kylo Ren/Adam Driver Episode IX Thread

Behold The Supreme Commander!

 

J. J. Abrams: “Part of [the Kylo Ren helmet returning] is about his commitment to the Dark Side. As you’ll see, he’s becoming Supreme Leader…his focus has been a little bit more on practical matters. He’s assumed that position within the First Order. It represents his re-committing to the Dark Side, to the Knights of Ren, and then because of a very specific thing that he’s about to go do. As you see in the story, there’s a reason for it. It might not be clear at this moment.” (December 5, 2019)

 

Best written and most interesting character of the ST so far in my opinion. Wasn't his biggest fan after after TFA but TLJ connected the dots.

Really hope they continue in this trend with his character.

Only downside is that we will probably never see Darth Revan on the big screen as they borrowed alot from him creating Kylo Ren.

Driver just loves talking in character, while Ridley is kind the opposite.

Adam Driver: “[Does Kylo get redemption?] What does [Kylo Ren] have to be redeemed for?” “[Kylo Ren] has a different identity, a different definition of what redemption is. He’s already been redeemed in his story. I don’t think there is a thought of redemption. He doesn’t have an outside lens of the events, you know — you know what I mean? That’s more of an outsider’s view of his world.” (December 5, 2019)



Adam Driver: "I think [the title Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker] plays perfectly into what happens in the movie. The title was very much an on-going conversation that was, you know, happening with the core team but it was kind of...what is...I'm almost glad that it came late because you kind of had to make it and figure out what it is that you made. And I think that [the title's] really appropriate." "I don't want to say if it's [related to my character]. Maybe [that I'm the only Skywalker at this point]. (smiles) Maybe, yeah. Yeah, I don't know if it's in relationship to...I think it's...it's hard to explain without using the movie [itself]...that how well [the title] fits in."

 

Watched Marriage Story.
Hiding Driver behind a mask was a mistake from the beginning. I'll hear no more about the matter.

 

He is SO good in Marriage Story and, although I like the mask, you are 100% right.

 

Woo buddy, if you are a Kylo fan, it looks like you are going to have a heckuva movie to enjoy

Wow finally a trailer to get excited about. I have been hedging on how I feel about all I have seen-heard about this film but this really sold me in a way none of the other media coming out thus far. The music is really a big seller for me.

 

I've made it no secret that Kylo Ren is roughly 95% of the reason I even care about Star Wars. After seeing that last trailer I am so hyped for this film. There are a ton of things I wish would happen to Kylo plot-wise and I bet most all of them will not come true. But, I just hope they do his character justice (and polish up Luke's character too).

I just can't wait!!!

 

Anyone else find it more than a little inconsistent that Kylo Ren has been shown lifting people off the ground and up against a ceiling, pulling a transport ship either up or down (it's not totally clear), stopping a blaster bolt in mid air, probing peoples' minds, choking people, pulling objects to himself and jumping great distances by using the force but gets the crap beaten out of him by some guys with pointy sticks in TROS? He doesn't win the fight with the Knights of Ren until the lightsaber is teleported to him.

 

when i look back on this journey, from the moment i first saw black series Kylo Ren at target on Force Friday in 2015, the ST was always about him for me. i hated Kylo Ren, then i loved Ben Solo. he had Darth Vader's powers and Han Solo's swagger--he was everything i loved about my two favorite Star Wars characters embodied in the legacy child of our OT heroes. and for four years i watched him struggle with that legacy, watched him suffer to become his own person independent of what came before, watched him finally succeed, and then watched him die.
the ST brought me back to Star Wars…and took me right back out again.
everything is change. : D

for now, i am just happy to celebrate four years of Ben, and four years here on the Cantina (it's my Cantinaversary today ~ woo!).
i’m happy to celebrate this, my 10,000th post!
and i'm happy to celebrate the very best parts of this scruffy-looking, moof-milking chaotic fandom--of which i have had the privilege to be a part.

Adam Driver gave us a character bigger than the Skywalker saga, bigger than this franchise.
in the community and in the connections he helped make, Ben Solo's legacy will live on.

They really did Kylo/Ben dirty at the end.

 

I imagined Kylo Ren tracking Rey's scent with this song in the background.

Is that King Conan? I loved those stories. But Kull of Atlantis is cooler.

 

Now that this trilogy is over I wanted 3 outcomes for the character who simply became meaningless. All he did was brought Rey back to life.( a big all I'll admit but that's it) Didn't do anything to stop Palpy & The KoR were chumps who Rey would of easily dispatched.

1. Died evil
2. Lived stayed evil.
3. Lived good.

Naturally JJ was on the play it safe express & have us Anakin story 2.0......sigh.

 

He does excel at visual set pieces but story... not so much. Just look at Star Trek: Into Darkness.

 

Oh geez don't get me started! The Palest person ever to play a villain from the sub-continent!

 

They could have easily chosen to have Benedict play some disillusioned Star Fleet official or even a separatist. But nooo...

 

So very good, a superb talent! Great comment! It's possible his talent was squandered a little, particularly in Episode 9's final act.
