Main Kylo Ren/Adam Driver Episode IX Thread

So, CONTROVERSAL QUESTION HERE! Do you think we need Kylo going forward to Episode IX and beyond?

With Star Wars, I had one piece of information of where it was all going, and that’s where it has been in my head for a long time, and things were building towards that.


Well I guess there goes the theories that nothing was planned out.

 

Adam Driver has stated on a couple of occasions that he knows where Kylo Ren story is going. It's been my understanding that the major parts of this trilogy are predetermined but the directors had some flexibility in how they wanted to tell that story.

The last thing that JJ filmed for TFA was Kylo and the Knight of Ren in the rain. Keep in mind at that point JJ already knows the script for TLJ and apparently knows what happens to Kylo Ren. The scene in the rain isn't used in TLJ, but it stands to reason that moment happens in Episode IX. Which is odd because everyone just assumed it had to do with Rey's past, but it might be a moment in her future.

 

The part of the flashback has now become interesting because now that JJ is back it might be used as something from the future and not the past. We know from TFA leaks that was supposed be part of the clan vs the seven when The clan used the blue saber against Kylo and the KOR. However when JJ changes the Mcguffin from the saber to Luke the Forceback changed. I’m not sure if that scene was ever truly planned out. I suspect it wasn’t. If someone other than JJ was directing IX I don’t think we would even see any references back to the Forceback. However with JJ at the helm, it is possible

 

That forceback scene was one of the last things created for TFA. You correctly mentioned the history of the scene, but is it possible we've misread this? The lightsaber Mcguffin was changed pretty early on and if JJ filmed that last it stands to reason that decision was already made.

Here's a theory. The scene is supposed to be the future. In the future Kylo and the Knights of Ren take the saber back from Rey in Episode IX during the final confrontation. However, the wrinkle towards the end of the production of TFA is that Rian Johnson destroys the lightsaber in TLJ. The scene is still part of IX, but it just doesn't involve the saber.

 

I definitely think it could be part of the future now that JJ is back since he kept that scene as part of the Forceback. However, I’m not convinced we would have seen it again if this was still Treverrow directing IX

I've been looking forward to seeing this! On an unrelated note, I may or may not have an idea what to watch this evening.

My understanding was that JJ shared with Adam his vision of where the character was going but that he did not impose it on RJ. However, it appears that the events and development of Kylo’s character In TLJ did not contradict JJ’s plans.

 

FWIW, a makeup artist on IX leaked their used/emptied makeup kit in an instagram photo celebrating the end of working for Mr. Driver.

a newbie to the cantina so not sure if this has been covered yet.

Is it common knowledge that Kylo is Ben Solo? I was wondering because if Ben is redeemed and survives, how would Ben interact everyone or the rest of the Galaxy act towards him? interested to hear others views.

I think the only person that knows outside of people like Leia, Rey, Chewie and Lando is Finn, but I don't think they would make it public knowledge because it could damage the Resistance's trust in Leia as a leader, therefore damaging the Resistance as a whole.
It the galaxy might think that Ben perished at Luke's school with the rest of the students.
I think if we look at what Han said in TFA, it supports this:

"He was training a new generation of Jedi. One boy, an apprentice, turned against him, destroyed it all. Luke felt responsible. He just walked away from everything."

He just referred to Ben as an apprentice, he didn't reveal any specifics and I don't think Han and Leia would want the galaxy knowing, especially after the reveal that Leia was Vader's daughter in one of the new books (don't know which one, sorry, but it the reveal knocked Leia's trust level down a few levels), and Luke was too ashamed about the whole thing.

I think if Kylo/Ben is redeemed, it will be very very awkward between him, Chewie and Finn (if Finn survives and if Ben survives).
