    Yes, she will be !!!

There are tons of speculation on Leia character in the final Episode IX.

How the hell will Leia be materialized in TROS ?
We know they'll reuse unused footage from previous filmings, and reportedly, they will not use CGI artefact like they did for Rogue One Tarkin.
    But then ?
Will this footage be consistent enough to have some solid scenes with our Princess?
Will they "cheat" with some kind of (unavoidable) recast ? for example, a look-a-like filmed from back, and from time to time, some cuts to Carrie's face, letting the audience make the link? or, perhaps, the re-use of whole sequence, with a revoicing (sort of dubbing, I mean) in the case the former dialog would not match?

Will we definitely learn she is Force Sensitive - or not?
Will she die during that final chapter?

Will she meet with Broom Boï?

    So much issues and questions....

.... and so much love !
    We miss you.
    You know.
    That thread is for you.

    MSW says...
Carrie's daughter, Billie Lourd, plays Leia in a flashback and for certain scenes there will be a stand in actress. So, three people are portraying Leia in TROS.

We know she is FS since 1983.
"The force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it... You have that power too." - Luke

    Furthermore there is this:

    I doubt it.

No, but she will meet Ben!

Leia will be the heart and soul of RoS. I have absolutely no doubt about that. It is unlikely she will have a lot of screen time, however. No, they (i.e. LFL/JJ) will have built scenes around her unused stuff, given her potent one-liners and cut her into meaningful appearances. They will have done EVERYTHING they could to make Leia/Carrie's precense in RoS as powerful as possible, and I for one think it will be awesomelly good; restrictions are good for creativity and I bet "they" have all been inspired like hellion to make the best out of what they have of Carrie, to interpret that into a great, cohesive story. I trust "them", 100%, to do the very best they can with what they have of Leia/Carrie. There will be "solid sceens", and they will be clever and manipulated as hellion! :D

Beyond that, who knows? They will probably not recast mature-Carrie/Leia. They almost certainly will cast young actresses (i.e. BL) to play flashback-Leia, possibly even several ages' worth of the character, and these will almost definitelly be CGI'ed to carry her likeness (that or they will be shot form the back or ankle hight or whatever). So yeah, they will cheat some.

As for Leia being "force sensitive" (an RPG term not used in the films), we already know from canon that she "has" the Froce. This was established in ESB, re-established in RotJ & TFA, and blatantly demonstrated in TLJ. So yeah... Leia is definitelly strong with the force and has used it alread. Nothing new there :)

Broom boy? No, he was a symbol for the courage and hope that Luke's sacrifice inspired. He will not be in RoS.

For all the ranting, I can say one thing with absolute certainty in regards to Carrie/Leia in this film: She will be LOOOOOVED! :D

I think they are gonna make this old scruffy nerf herder cry with Leia's scenes. But I'll swear it was only dirt in my eye.

Best leading lady ever. Carrie Fisher nailed every single one of her lines in the original trilogy.

One thing that I realised rewarching TFA these days is the "MF moment with Han", who took me directly to the "MF moment with Luke" in TLJ, that took me directly to a "MF moment with Leia" that it won't happen in TROS due to Carrie's death.
If Carrie was alive maybe JJ would have done the same with her and the MF...what a pitty. These scenes looks so good with Han and Luke.

Technically, anyone is force-sensitive in Star Wars. I think that the quote is just emphasizing her connection with Luke.

Pre-ROTJ discussion with Lucas, Kasdan, and Marquand, and Kazanjian-July 13 to 17, 1981 snippet from summary from Rinzler's the Making of Return of the Jedi:

Kasdan: "The Force was available to anyone who could hook into it?"

Lucas: "Yes, everybody can do it."

Rinzler, J. W. The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Del Rey, 2013.

Actually, reading once again my opening post, I notice I made a regrettable mistake : I should not have written that above, but rather: will she finally handle a lightsaber. I apologize.

    Continued from previous thread...

    Todd Fisher:
“[Leia] was going to be the big payoff in this final [Skywalker Saga] film and that's what the intent was prior to [Carrie] exiting [after her death]. She was going to be the last Jedi, so to speak. And that’s cool right? People used to say to me, ‘Why is it that Carrie never gets a lightsaber and chops up some bad guys.' Even as a person of her age, Obi-Wan was in his prime was about Carrie’s age!” "I felt the stuff that Carrie did in The Last Jedi was her best work. She had really come to grips with who Princess Leia was and that she and her were one and the fact that they had all of this other footage - I didn't even know - they had eight minutes of [previous] footage. Yeah, it's a lot of footage. The truth is that J.J. Abrams was great friends with Carrie, loved Carrie, he had an extraordinary sense of love for her and so he took great care in moving this concept along. You know...grabbed every frame and analyzed it...thanks to J. J. conscientiously doing that and then reverse-engineering it and [got] it into the story the right way. It’s kind of magical.” “This is, in its own way, a payoff to all of that. It’s Carrie talking to us all from beyond. The beautiful thing about the concept of the Force is that there is no real death; you just exist in another dimension. So Carrie is looking down or sideways or wherever and so she is still part of us. To be able to see that — it’s magical stuff only in the movies.” (November 6, 2019)

Billie Lourd: "[My mother and I] wrapped The Last Jedi a little less than six months before she died. I went back to L.A. to film the show I was on, and she stayed in London to film the show she was on. One of the last times we spoke on the phone, she talked about how excited she was that the next movie in the trilogy was going to be Leia’s movie. Her movie." "About a year later [after my mother's death], J.J. [Abrams] called me into his office to talk about the plans for Leia. We both agreed she was too important to be written off in the classic Star Wars introductory scroll. This last movie was supposed to be Leia’s movie, and we wanted it to remain that, as much as possible. What I hadn’t known–and what J.J. told me that day –was that there was footage of my mom that they had collected over the years that hadn’t made it into the movies, footage that J.J. told me would be enough to write an entire movie around. It was like she had left us a gift that would allow Leia’s story to be completed. I was speechless. (Anyone who knows me knows that doesn’t happen very often.)" "J.J. asked me if I would want to come back as Lieutenant Connix. I knew it would be one of the most painful, difficult things I would ever do, but I said yes for her–for my mom. For Leia. For everyone Leia means so much to. For everyone Leia gives strength to. For my future kids, so someday they’ll have one more movie to watch that Mommy and Grandma were in together. So they can ask me about the lady–now ladies–in the TV and tell me to turn it down because it’s too loud." (November 7, 2019)

yay, maybe we could get some 40-years-old-Leia pictures... the same we had a little bit of 40-years-old-Luke in TLJ...

I don't believe this because it speaks to information that Todd Fisher could not have known about given the state of Colin Trevorow's Episode 9 script at the time of Carrie's death (He was still working on early drafts of it) and the known fate of said script following her death (it was discarded just days after she died).

In both the SciFiNow and Total Film interviews it was said that Leia was considered or suggested to be recast.

    J. J. Abrams: "[Recasting Leia after Carrie Fisher's death was suggested by someone 'high up' in the company.] There are scenes where's interacting with other characters in a way that is uncanny. Hopefully, if it works, it will be an invisible thing and if you didn't know, you would never know. But we got to tell the story with Leia that we would have told had Carrie lived. And that's kind of incredible." (Total Film December 2019)

Daisy Ridley: "I think we all feel like it's an amazing tribute to Carrie [Fisher], and Leia's super important in the story. Yeah, and I feel like people are going to really feel like what J. J. [Abrams] was able to do even is amazing." (CCXP Brazil 2019)

    J. J. Abrams: “Clearly we would have done other things had Carrie [Fisher], [still] been around, but I will say despite her not being with us anymore, her presence in the movie is not inconsequential. She’s not being ‘added in’ so that she’s in the movie. And I would say that her story, her role, the importance of Leia, I would argue is as profound as what you’re saying even though she wasn’t here.” “There was no way, as I’ve said before, to tell the story without Leia. She’s too important. It’s Skywalker saga. She is the living Skywalker in our story. You don’t want to start the story and say something happened to her in between movies. It didn’t feel right. We’d never recast it. A digital Leia wouldn’t work. There was no way to do it.” (December 6, 2019)
