Some of the initial reactions from the world premiere audience said that TROS is "rude" to Rian Johnson and TLJ. I think the only central idea from TLJ that could be overwritten is the Rey Random one, and my guess is that is what happened in TROS. Anyway, in a few days we will see if that's the case.

    If Rey being a
Palpatine is true, i'm very satisfied. She was very difficult for Luke, went "straight to the dark" as Luke said.. and it makes perfect sense to me. Redeeming the Palpatine bloodline is arguably the most hopeful and optimistic thing Star Wars can do. The saga will end with the same positive vibes The Phantom Menace began with.. and that is beautiful.

    About Rey her background:
I wonder if John Williams knew all this time she’s a Palpatine, because the first three notes of Rey’s theme are the same first three notes of the Emperor’s / Darth Sidious’ theme. It could be coincidence, but that’s a lucky coincidence.

Just want to say that Daisy Ridley was perfect in TROS. Her best acting in this ST.

I can see how they got that impression, though I think JJ being effusive in his compliments of TLJ make it difficult to argue that it was being mean spirited or rude to Rian Johnson and TLJ. It was course correcting, from end to end.

Why are people so against the idea of Rey being The Chosen One? Vader helped to kill millions of innocent people. Having Vader suddenly turn good for 10 seconds at the end of his life, does not make him good.

In the real world, would people worship a mass murderer (who at the end of his life) did one good deed to end his death cult? Nope.

Vader stood there and approved while the death star killed millions, as did Kylo. In my opinion, neither are light side characters in death.. and neither deserve force ghosts. It sends a bad message, a message taken advantage of by people in the real world who also happen to be bad people.

"I can be a horrible person all my life, but if I pray and ask forgiveness in the final stretch.. it makes me a good a person."

No, there's no redeeming mass murderers. If anyone is The Chosen One, it is Rey.. or arguably Luke. Luke saved enough resistance members to finally kill off the Sith.

But the whole notion that "REY CANNOT BE THE CHOSEN ONE" really boils down to.. sexism.

    What other reason is there?

    "But Lucas never planned that!"

    Lucas sold away the rights.

If that would really be the case then she should have kept the name Palpatine instead of Skywalker. This would have been a much more meaningful message.

Furthermore she doesn't need to be a Palpatine to make this point. I always wanted Rey to come from the dark who brings light, while Kylo comes from the light (Leia and Han) who brings darkness to the galaxy.
But IMO Rey should just have dark side parents who are never really explained.

Okay, so I've read the article, and it gives a nice description of the events of what we see in the movie, but the article does not give a reason why she had to be a Palpatine *shrug*

    Oh, but it does.

Rey had to be a Palpatine because she's the "Darkness rising to meet the Light" despite being perceived to be the opposite.

Ben and Rey were seen as being the opposite of what they actually were, which is why Rey's lineage had to be what it was revealed to be.

In rejecting the name Palpatine and her dark lineage, Rey truly becomes - for the very first time - what she and others saw herself as: the "Light rising to meet the Darkness", and she does so with the full support of her great opposites.

But Snoke specifically calls Kylo with "Darkness rises" and then he points to Rey "and light to meet it". Then he continues, that he thought Skywalker would be the one to rise, wrongly.

You don't need Palps for this reveal.

Using Skywalker is actually a mistake in the narrative, because the name itself is connected with Darth Vader. She should really called herself Palaptine because this would have been the final blow against the emperor. His name now stands for something good and pure. This would have been much more powerful.

A second possibility would have been Rey Organa.

    Its a Q&A from Chris Terrio. The full question and answer;

Terrio states she's dark side royalty, a princess.

Anyone know if this picture is legit? I just saw it for the first time today. Rey mentioned having a vision of herself on the Sith throne. Maybe this was filmed but not seen in the "finished" movie? This looks different from the footage from the DS2 wreckage. Could be photoshop, though.

I must say. Daisy's "dead" acting was spot on. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, eat your heart out!

The HR claimed the other day that Dom Monaghan unwittingly confirmed the existence of the unreleased 192 minute version with this quote. "We filmed more stuff than you see in the film...I'd love to see a longer cut"

I'm sure he does. As do the Hollywood Reporter. But "nothing here really to report on the alleged longer version we've been cruelly and unreasonably denied (allegedly) isn't going to attract clicks. Is it? ;)

    Not really... Emperor's theme starts with a rising minor third (G - Bb - G) as Rey's theme starts with a falling second (E - D - E).

(unless you consider Rey's theme starts with the flute at the beginning, while it actually starts at 0:14 with the chimes)
