I mean there was little things like her lightsaber hold, stuff like that for palpatine. But overal, it was more Nobody or Kenobi.

Exactly! He teased every possible outcome:

    - he hinted her being Luke's daughter => Maz Kanata: "[to Rey] That lightsaber was Luke's. And his father's before him. And now, it calls to you."
    - he hinted her being a Solo => Rey had the same understanding of ships like Han
    - he hinted her being a Kenobi => Obi-Wan's voice was heard in Rey's forceback vision + she was sneeking like old Ben on Starkiller Base/DS1
    - he hinted her being no one => Rey: "[in the trailer] I'm no one." Rey: "[in the movie] I'm just a scavenger."
    etc.

But never ever did he hint a connection to Palpatine or even his possible return.

We do hear the Emperor's voice in the forceback vision in TFA, but that was about it regarding a hint at Palpatine, I believe. There were so many theories, and most seemed equally valid. So, yeah, if it was JJ's intention to leave it open to speculation and make it easy to who came next, then he accomplished that.

In a way, it's like she could be everything that was hinted at, if not physically and objectively, at least metaphorically or from a certain point of view.

Who else would the Skywalker saga be based on 32 years after ROTJ? (duel)(duel)

Thanks for the uploads. Most of those videos are theories and educated guesses. The video I uploaded seemed to gather their clues from what is in the film. From the close comparison of Rey’s fighting style to Palpatine’s, to the similarity of her theme, to the changing of her name from Kira to Rey (which is Spanish for King) just as they went into filming.

I find the chastisement of LF hard to take seriously given the fact that they roundly excuse the lack of planning for the OT and the massive plot holes. And not to mention the fact that when asked for specifics for what’s wrong with the ST, they either bring up some point that was clearly shown in the film. Or the fact that their head cannon wasn’t reflected. I will never forget an exchange with a so called SW fan who is prepared who said that Palpatine’s actions didn’t make sense. Even though the first 6 films showed Palpatine as a Machiavellian chess master.

Also given the fact that when George Lucas tried to make the films deeper and more serious by injecting politics into the PT he was roundly attacked not only in the context of his work.

He was actually yelled at while out and about on the street. It doesn't tell me that they are looking for a good story or well structured narrative.

She's fighting like that because she's only used to fight with a staff.

Her theme is Kylo's theme, but in reverse (because they are meant to represent Yin and Yang). So, does this mean Kylo is a Palpatine as well?

Again, Kira is a parallel to Kylo.
    Kylo Ren <> Kira Rey

One of my favourite YT channels, and honestly one of the few positive and intelligent ones I have seen on the SW: ST did an in depth review as to why Rey is not a Mary Sue. Not only does he go through in great detail why she does not follow the definition. He also provides us with her journey and her growth as a person. Anyway it's 2.5 hours long but well worth the watch.

As I understand it, Palpatine created Rey. His son/clone had failed and he needed a womb.

If one projects 'darkness rises and light to meet it' 20 years into the past...Ben ('too much Vader in him') was sent away when he was 11 and Rey was born that same year. Is that a coincidence?

Palpatine, that's my theory, would have used Ben to create Rey through 'Vader' (the helmet, maybe). And the 'parents' in TROS are more like Bail/Breha (the mother is like Leia's mother in the ROTJ novel, who was not Padme)

The dyad is a power 'like life itself', according to Palpatine. It would have been the unexpected consequence of another thing.

The bloodline mom -'Shmi Palpatine', so to speak- is not in the films. 'Is', because maybe she's around.
There's a precedent involving JJ Abrams. This is Sydney Bristow's mom from 'Alias':
'He killed my mother...', says Rey. But we don't see it. And then she goes '...and my father'. But the father was killed first. There's some ambiguity there, since we know Anakin was 'killed' in ROTS with Bail and Breha and baby Leia at the very end of the film.

Look at all these entries by me. I hope I don't bore you with all this. Anyway seen a few pages from some new reading material flying about and I thought they are on topic but haven't seen them discussed anywhere.

    So here we go;

    Book one from Pablo Hildago

Not sure on the name 'Winkie' sounds like a tellytubby. So as far back as Lucas treatment the sequel trilogy was always about the rise of a female Jedi. I have read in the past people saying in the past that is was originally going to be a male lead and they changed tack at the last minute. Nope never happened. I do like the name 'Echo' though perhaps more than Rey.

Another page on how Ridley got the job and how she could cry on que. People do criticise Ridley's acting in parts. Am big Daisy fan but I understand the criticism but I don't know if this is a positive or not. But she is very good at crying :p

Another page on infamous mirror scene. Am still not sure what this all about in all honesty but according to this book this was one of the first scenes created by RJ.

    Book Two

    Small page of Rey mediating

    Book 3
    [IMG]

Another Pablo book and new page for Rey Skywalker Jedi Master

*These images are not my own. I can't accredit them but if someone knows who these images belong two I will add them to the post.

Some lovely looking Christmas presents here for the filling the stockings.

    Thanks for that.

I'm glad that JJ picked Rey and not Winkie as a name for our heroine! Kira sounds cool too.

And Canto Bight indeed has that feeling of a movie made from the 50's or 60's. Probably that's one of the reasons why I like the scenes shooting there.

Apparently the name was changed to Rey just as they started filming. And Rey translates to King in Spanish, which was one of the major clues that they were going to —or were at least considering having her be related to Emperor Palpation.

Behind-the-scenes stuff like these books continues to document the true level of planning, coordination, and thought that went into the development of the Sequel Trilogy, and yet the people who are determined to be closed-minded about it in some way will sadly ignore all of it.

I always thought that this image was pre-empting some kind of dark side connection. My biggest fear was that she would end up the big bad. Some like that thought, I personally found it distasteful. But I definitely thought it maybe foreshadowing Rey on the dark Lord's throne which did technically happen. Never thought of Palpatine because he was stone cold dead.

That's just her shadow caused by the sun on the filming location... Some people are reading way too much into stuff.

Lucas said Star Wars should rhyme. Sorry for thinking that, guilty as charged
