It’s a thread about Rey and it shows that Rey gets the most screen time. It’s interesting information. Makes me think the title of this film is also about Rey since she gets all the screen time and the other titles are about her.

It is interesting information, and I understand what you say, however TLJ's title seems to be about Luke, and Rey to a lesser extent, in my opinion. She does have the most screentime till now, double of Kylo/Ben as we see in the graph, so she is undeniably the main protagonist so far, and will probably be again in IX. Personaly, I think IX's title will probably be more divided among several characters than be focused on one in particular.

I agree the title will have a double meaning similar to The Last Jedi. I'm trying to figure out how Rey fits into the title. It's doubtful she won't be part of it's meaning.

The title doesn't have to be about a person. For example, "The Empire Strikes Back" and "The Attack of the Clones" were not about a person or a small group of people. You could say the Empire is a character in itself, but those titles are more about what is to happen, the events themselves, than about characters. That said, "The Rise of Skywalker" does suggest a title about characters, but it could also be a more general title, like the story of how Skywalker came to be. Or, it can be centered on Anakin, Luke, Leia and Kylo/Ben, or even all to some extent.

You make a pertinent question though: How does Rey factor in the title, since it's a title about specific people after all? Because if she doesn't it's strange for her to be the main protagonist of the trilogy, which everything leads to believe she is, and not be associated with the title directly. For instance, if the title is mainly about Kylo/Ben, then that could make him almost on-par with her on protagonism on this trilogy. So, I see your point.

    Hi,

I'd like to interject my theory about Rey. First of all, it's all in good fun. LOL! I don't claim to be "right" I'm just going with my gut as a life long Star Wars fan.

I think Rey (which stands for royalty) is the grand-daughter or daughter of Palpatine. She was either created like Anakin or he had a brief love affair we won't hear about. To me its complete poetry. Bare with me...let me explain.

How ironic would it be for a Palpatine (true heiress of evil and the empire) to fight against the heir of Skywalker!?!? The very one to turn Darth back to good!!

I also think "Rey" is a tiny nod to "GREY" as in grey jedi. She will start a new Jedi order, where it's okay to show emotion, get married, etc. Rise of Skywalker means his story will be broadcast around the galaxy as an example and warning about good vs evil since this family has been on both sides.

Anyhow, just remember if I'm right...I CALLED it peeps!!! :)

....and to add to my theory I just wanted to point out that I'm not alone! If this comes to pass I would be PUMPED!! :)

If anyone still had any doubts it appears by these books that Rey is the main character of this movie and trilogy.

Daisy Ridley: “I think there’s a part of Rey that’s like, ‘dude, you [Kylo Ren] ******* had it all, you had it all.’ That was always a big question during filming: you had it all and you let it go.” (May 22, 2019)

Daisy Ridley: “We worked with Anthony [Daniels] a lot, like, Anthony is really part of this adventure [as C-3PO].” “[The Rise of Skywalker is] the most I’d ever worked with Anthony, and he was really there—mostly every day. So it didn’t feel like the legacy wasn’t there. It felt like we were very connected to the original ones actually. Really connected.” (May 22, 2019)

Daisy Ridley: “[I understand that] having the two coolest parents [such as Han and Leia] and sometimes I’m sure it works amazingly, and sometimes it just might not.” “It’s a bit lonely having that much on one’s shoulders [like Kylo Ren].” “[Rey and Kylo Ren are] two quite powerful people who feel.” “Rey [when the movie begins] is less inclined to believe that Kylo potentially could redeem himself.” (May 22, 2019)

Daisy Ridley: “It’s nice having that shot at the beginning of the teaser, because I think it’s quite a good visual representation of where [Rey] is now: confident, calm, less fearful.… It’s still sort of overwhelming, but in a different way. It feels more right—less like inevitable and more like there’s a focus to the journey.” (May 22, 2019)

Hmm Rey was supposed to be a parkour expert in TFA. Even Jason from MSW speculated that Pip Anderson shot scenes dressed as Rey in TFA. This "skill" was nowhere to be seen in TLJ. Seems like JJ is going back to Rey the Parkour expert. I do wonder if Chloe Bruce is still doing part of the Lightsabre scenes. She did seem to be on set too.

I love Rey as a character, but I do believe -- among other things -- she has to lose to Kylo Ren in Episode IX to fully flesh out her character and the connection they share. I think it will bring that dynamic full circle and I really hope it happens.

As a woman, I connect with Rey on many levels. She's lonely and isolated, waiting so desperately for her family to return. More than anything, she wants someone, anyone to come back for her, to show her that she has a belonging. And because I really like her character, I want her to be face more challenges in Episode IX. I want the storytellers to flesh out her character and make her more of a flawed, three-dimensional figure in the story.

They did that brilliantly for Kylo Ren/Ben Solo, but I think they leave much be desired for Rey.

How about they start by not making her character disappear on-screen for most of the last battle, not reducing her character to someone begging men to be the real heroes, and actually defining and exploring her backstory throughout the narrative of the next one so that she's not superseded by exploring the men's stories like she was in the last one. Johnson and the company benched her rivalry with Kylo Ren so the narrative became Kylo Ren vs. Luke.

It's also a bit too late to properly fix now in terms of the stained trilogy, at best it just prevents the last movie from being a second misguided bad redux in some ways. All the flashy stunt double moves in the galaxy are no substitute for narrative relevance.

And I as a woman postivlely loath Kylo Ren / Ben Solo and hate the fact that Rian contorted the whole female's protoganist story around shipping herself off to a guy who we are supposed to feel sorry for because he couldn't kill his mother (give him a gold medal to him because nobody else does this ).

Yep such a brilliant thought out character zzzzzzzzzzzz

@p03: I guess you see what you see with Rey's character, but I don't think her story is in service to Kylo Ren. All her life, she has lived a lonely, isolated existence. The one thing that Rey wants more than anything is a sense of belonging. All her relationships so far within the trilogy have been easily given to her -- Finn, Poe, Leia, Luke.

Her friendships with members of the Resistance were given to her instantly without effort and have given her little personal clarity or fulfillment (we see this by her restlessness about the Force, her family, Kylo Ren in TLJ). On the other hand, her growing dynamic with Kylo Ren/Ben Solo has challenged her in unexpected ways -- it has forced her to accept that perhaps she has been denying the reality of her long lost family and it's time to "let the past die," it has encouraged her to hone and develop the Force powers she always felt inside of her but never did anything about, and it has allowed her to see a world of many perspectives where good and evil are not necessarily black and white.

For Rey, Kylo has proven to be a catalyst for almost every significant moment of self-discovery of her powers and the challenges of personal agency.

Also, her dynamic with Kylo doesn't change a thing about her as a strong feminine presence in the story. It doesn't change the fact that she has a force connection with Anakin Skywalker's grandson, Ben Solo, and that he is affected by her on some level. It doesn't change the fact that she has "raw, untamed" power like Ben Solo. It doesn't change the fact that she is uniquely destined to indirectly save Ben Solo from himself and the darkness.

This makes her arc more than Ben Solo or the Skywalker lineage, it makes it about a Force user who is coming into her own, learning about the Force, and also using it to help the Resistance and a royal galactic family...all while coming from nothing, not from royalty like Ben Solo.

He is a great character precisely because he doesn't fit the stereotypical notion of masculinity in storytelling these days.
