Look at how many actors were cast for TFA. I think it's safe to say Some of them are not going to make it through a film or two. There are always a lot of characters in SW but few with large roles. It has always been that way so I wouldn't be surprised if she dies as mentioned by MSW. Crystal Clarke and Pip are always brought up like they are going to be surprise leads or something. I see Crystal Clarke playing a role with an importance level of Padme's double. She's in the film here and there and is around the central characters but she is by no means a lead. I don't see Pip having some large role either maybe as large as Lando or even smaller. Not saying their characters are LIKE those characters but their level of significance might be.

 

I meant that is what I was hoping she would be.

I'm still wondering if there's some greater significance to Maisie's role given how she was teased just prior to casting announcements (in rumors, and in that bad robot photo of what looks like her reading the script) yet still not officially confirmed (even Pip and Crystal got a press release). But the lack of official confirmation could also mean the exact opposite, i.e. her role isn't very significant.

I do think her playing the emissary role (as part of Leia's entourage) is likely, given the tweet by Carrie Fisher's assistant, which grouped her with Carrie's daughter and Daisy (I still think it's probable Daisy is a Solo though recent speculation suggests otherwise).

I might put too much stock in it but if they weren't at the read through I highly doubt they have a role that could be considered large.

 

I would say the large characters make it into the "ensemble." If you're not in the ensemble, you're in a pretty small role if you're not Kylo Renn.

Kor Vella was a Corellian city in the EU. Maybe they changed the spelling and she is the Emissary from Korr Sella? It would fit as part of Leia's entourage, assuming, post RotJ, Leia and Han continued their relationship, possibly settling on Han's native Corellia. She continued her political career in her adopted home world, and Han left for whatever reasons.

Good point, though there's a difference between 'significant' and 'large', e.g. Boyega and Daisy appear to have large roles, while Serkis and Hamill have limited but significant roles. To your point, the people absent, like Maisie, along with Crystal and Pip, and Lupita and Christie, probably have smaller roles and less significant roles than everybody pictured here. But the weird build-up and secrecy regarding Maisie makes me suspect her role could be more significant, though at this point I think the emissary speculation is probably correct.

On a side note, the fact that Serkis is at this reading despite his own acknowledgment that he basically has a cameo toward the end, makes me wonder if he "appears" as a disembodied voice throughout (whispering to Kylo Ren perhaps). Of course I'm probably influenced by his "appearance" as a voice in the trailer.

 

Are you implying that Kylo Ren is played by someone not in the picture or am I interpreting your statement wrong?

 

Serkis is probably doing motion capture for a bunch of characters. Remember Pip the parkour guy? It was said that Serkis was capturing his movements. It was probably Serkis who was motion-capturing Lupita LOngo for her role as "Rose"

In addition to his acting resume, Serkis has his own motion capture company named Imaginarium Studios on top of the roles he takes on. It is even confirmed that they are doing motion capture work for TFA and other SW movies.

So to end this post, Serkis is probably at the roundtable because he is significantly more involved than just being a small cameo.

 

You may be correct that he's involved in a motion capture consultant capacity, but he's on record stating that he's only playing one character: 'The rumor that Serkis will take on more than one part is “not true at all,” Serkis says. “I can say I only play one character.” '

 

Serkis can play any character with motion capture, take a look & lord of the rings & planet of the apes I think he is capable.

 

Agreed he's capable, but I was reading his quote literally to mean he's not playing (motion cap or otherwise) more than one character. I may be reading it too literally.

Regardless, I didn't mean to derail this thread into a tangent on Serkis -- let's circle back to Maisie, who's probably named Korr Sella, is most likely an emissary, and may or may not be related to Obi-Wan Kenobi, but is definitely in the movie, though not yet officially confirmed.

 

Well Maisie is not playing a jedi I would put her in a captain role on one of the rebel ships.

 

Sorry, I was in a hurry. I meant that the good guys are always together so their parts are kind of small. Kylo is the only bad guy that really has a ton of screen time and development. So he feels huge in the movie from my perspective but I'm sure its not really any bigger than Darth Vader's in A New Hope in actuality.
