Make Up a Star Wars Board Game that You'd Play

Similar to the thread of the video game equivalent of this question, make up your own Star Wars board games!

    I'll go first!

    The Clone Wars

Simply titled after the war that it focuses on, this game would be to Star Wars Rebellion what Kemet is to Cyclades.

I realize that my board game nerd example might not makes sense to some people, so let me explain- Kemet and Cyclades are two games that cover Egyptian and Greek mythology respetively. However, while Kemet is heavily combat based, Cyclades plays a lot more slowly and features a lot less combat.

Star Wars Rebellion is a fantastic game, and the combat is fun, especially with the revamped Rise of the Empire combat, but combat is definitely not the focus of the game. Rather, it's a cat and mouse escapade, with the Empire constantly expanding, and the Rebels trying to use their meager forces to keep the Imperials from discovering the hidden Rebel base.

And I love that assymetric gameplay with Rebellion. But for a Clone Wars version, I'd want more of a focus on actual war. Make combat fast and easy, but still with some depth. Give each side objectives that would encourage battles, rather than discouraging them.

And like Rebellion, I'd still like to see a focus on leaders. Maybe the clones do most of the fighting, but it would be great still to also have Mace Windu leading the assault on Cato Nemoidia, or to send Cad Bane on a sabotage mission to Naboo.

Basically- let us play the Clone Wars.

I've got another couple of ideas brewing, but I'm curious if anyone else has anything they'd want to see, too. Don't feel too pressured to go into depth, but if you have ideas for deeper mechanics, I'd love to read about them!

this isn't quite a board game, but i want a Star Wars variation on this:

and i don't mean a horror-themed game; just structurally the game play itself:
    • this is an awesomely conceived game because it's story-based and is designed to be played solo or with up to four (or more) people.
    • the story and your characters and their assets evolve the more you play.
    • the stakes are real. you lose assets and can die hard if you make bad choices and/or have bad luck.
    • you absolutely have to work as a team to resolve missions.
    • there's all sorts of fun tokens and art and scenarios for this, with endless expanse-pack possibilities (so plenty of opportunities for weapons, models, credit chips, power tokens, etc.).

it's a very cool game, though quite intense! : D
a Star Wars version could be super interesting.
especially if there's additionally a way to play sides.

    I'd count it!

I don't know a ton about it, but I know FFG does a Star Wars LCG, too. Maybe that's what you're looking for?

An Arkham Horror/Eldritch Horror board game adaptation could be cool too. Maybe playing as Jedi attempting to stop some plot before it comes to fruition.

yeah i looked into this one and it does have certain similarities, but the game play isn't quite the same and there's no single-player mode.
also, they've incorporated Rebels, but have yet to bring in the ST (i know: so picky!) XD

i also looked into modifications for single play, but the solutions were rather clunky as it's just not meant to be played that way.
Arkham Horror is actually designed to play single or multi, and you can go back and forth between the two as well, which is cool since i like single play games but also like to have game time with others now and then.

so yeah: i want a new FFG LCG for single or multi player that includes the ST. : D

i know! every time i go to Barnes & Noble i just want to buy them all.
see? wouldn't that be an amazing game?

combine the LCG with the miniatures: you get to play Light or Dark (and/or against someone else Light or Dark, or with someone else on your own side as a team).

that really is asking a lot, but wouldn't it be awesome! : D

    That would be great!

I'd really love to see Armada or X-Wing combined with Imperial Assault or Legion.

Armada and IA both already have campaign structures... seems like it shouldn't be too hard to make that a reality.

I've actually seen some pretty cool fanmade scenarios that do this. One, that implemented a shield bunker assault on the ground with IA, and a capital ship battle with Armada, looked like the definitive Endor experience.

Also, if I interpreted correctly, sounds like you're looking for Sequel Trilogy for X-Wing? There isn't a lot out yet, but there is some! The new A-Wing is coming soon, too.

i want the ST edition for everything. i guess to be fair, they'll probably add ST content after the ST is actually completed.

but i like the sound of the mash-ups! like you said, it seems like it wouldn't be that hard to adapt?

    Probably.

I know with Imperial Assault, at least, it's not likely they could even tell a canon-friendly story, since there really isn't room in the narrative for it yet (compared to the long gap between A New Hope and Empire, for instance). But I do really want that Kylo Ren figurine so bad.

All depends on what you're playing for.

If you're looking for a balanced experience, you'll have to put a lot of work in to your homebrew.

But if you're just looking for a good time? Not too hard at all.

I've actually made a rough outline for small ship fights in Imperial Assault without even having to use Armada, using exclusive IA stuff. Basically, making small freighter-shaped maps, and moving them around each other on a large tile board, interacting with terminals to fire exterior canons and stuff.

i like a good time with some depth and a solid narrative.
i don't just want to play for points and thingamajigs.
that's why i like the LCG format.

the maps on the tile board is very cool ~ very D & D in a way.
    and i'm all for homebrew!
i don't think i've played a game according to the box rules since i was in gradeschool and they made us do it. XD

I'm a big fan of the Battlestar Galactica boardgame, so a GFFA spin which perhaps turns the tables so that rather than having to uncover the hidden traitors and survive like the original game, it could be ST themed and you could be assigned a Trooper role who wants to defect and fight against the former masters and they're out to stop you.

Ah yeah, a hidden role game could be great!

I feel like a hidden sith one is the obvious choice, but yours is far more canon friendly so I like it!

Something like One Night Ultimate Werewolf could be fun too, with Rebel spies as the "werewolves" and various Imperials as the villagers.

There could be a ton of fun roles to fill. For instance, stormtroopers could just be the standard villagers, while an IT-O droid could ask one player what their original role was (and they'd have to respond truthfully), while Deathtroopers could fill the mason role and know only who the other death troopers are (given their static communication).

I already am pretty invested in the One Night line, but I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

I played the edge of the empire and a few homebrew games...we used the source books to make some OP things, My oc once said this" the chiss are stubborn but tough, hard to kill and able to wipe out an opponent before they know what is coming" he would later comment after personally meeting and helping thrawn[pre my oc turning into an immortal grey Jedi who now brings peace through the greater good..i.e using his flagship The Harbinger, a ship version of Starkiller base on steroids on crack]"Thrawn is a man who I respect and would give me a run for my money... I haven't seen that amount of competence since the age of the Sith Empire, and that was a long, long time ago...Plus he reminds me of myself when I was younger...brave, ambitious ruthless as A Sith. He is not only my intellectual equal but my friend as well." this was said by Darth skorge, the sith who learned from many infamous sith lords such as Marka Ragnos, Darth Bane, Darth nihilus, Darth Revan and more...Skorge even befriended Vader and thrawn[in my universe it worked out...cuz I turned them to my side] skorge is over 700 years old and is one of the few pureblooded sith that still remain alive...he has one apprentice\his bodyguard\servent a dashade named Tave Massassi Kruva [the warrior mountain or the mountain warrior depending on how you say it], who swore his life to skorge and has since been made neigh immortal as to spend eternity as his bodyguard and servent...till the life debt is paid.
