Title says it all: Make up a Star Wars game that you'd actually play

If you're up for a challenge, make it up within 10 minutes (no way to prove it, challenge yourself).

    My submission:

A space based game where you customize your ship, recruit your crew, and make your way from one spaceport to another, taking odd jobs, smuggling, playing markets (buy low on one planet sell high on another), fight off pirates, or play the pirate if that's your fancy.

    Whatchya got?

A jedi action RPG (similar to Elder Scrolls/Fallout). This idea will

An open world RPG that gives you a lot of freedom. You create your character appearance and name, including gender and race. The tutorial has stages of you growing up and training to be a jedi, decisions you make during this time influence your character and their strengths/ weaknesses, preferred lightsaber form, how resistant to the dark side you are etc. One quest would be the Gathering where you find your Lightsaber crystal and then craft your own lightsaber. You would be given free roam of the Jedi temple and surrounding areas of Coruscant for certain missions. The tutorial would end with you becoming a jedi knight.

After the tutorial, the Jedi temple and parts of coruscant around the temple would become open world and free to roam. You would be free to roam and help citizens with side quests, or take on a main quest that would have a much larger influence and impact on the world.

I could imagine other planets being sold as expansion packs/dlc.

This is the thread I have been waiting for!

Although I would really just like to see a return of all the cancelled games (Imperial Commando, 1313, Battle of the Sith Lords, Wookiee freedom fighter, the REAL Battlefront 3, Visceral's game, etc.), if I had to come up with a new game, here are my ideas:

Bounty Hunter Open World Third-Person Action-Adventure
Similar to the classic Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (2002) and perhaps Star Wars 1313, the player would become a bounty hunter active between episodes 3 and 4. Similar to Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed, or Fable, the player can choose at any point to complete the main story missions (which would detail perhaps a revenge story, the paying off of a debt, being contracted by the Empire to hunt Jedi, or something else along those lines), or the player can complete side quests like actually hunting bounties, smuggling goods, helping mercenaries, completing heists, capturing creatures, all for a price. Each quest (and some collectibles) earn the player credits, which can be used to buy sweet weapons and armor for both yourself and your ship (i.e., you also can choose which ship you prefer from a variety of choices). There could also be a cool multiplayer aspect to the game, where a group of players can work together on difficult tasks (similar to Destiny), when if completed, a large bonus of credits are in store. A planet-to-planet adventure, where all you need is a good blaster at your side.

    Jedi Third-Person Stealth
Similar to Hitman(2016) and its sequels, the game follows a jedi on the run during the great jedi purge between episode 3 and 4. This jedi is trying to get together a band of other surviving jedi as well as some other supporting characters to infiltrate Coruscant and assassinate the Emperor. It's almost post-apocalyptic in tone, where the main character is alone and desperate to defeat the evildoers, all the while an open discussion about assassination, the jedi way, and the state of the galaxy is weaved throughout the story (similar to the first Assassin's Creed game). Gameplay-wise, you have to navigate through locations without detection in the hopes of either reaching the exit, obtaining some vital plans, meeting an informant, rescuing a hostage, or perhaps even something unrelated to the plot, like busting a drug ring. Each decision you make will be factored into what powers and upgrades you can obtain (light side healing, dark side force lightening, gray area telepathy, etc.), and whether or not you receive a light side, dark side, or gray ending. You're a pilgrim in an unholy land, but will you continue promoting the jedi cause, or give up your ways to suit the galaxy around you?

Old Republic/Tatooine First Person Survival Horror
I have two ideas about this:
    1) A Left 4 Dead-esque game revolving around survivors of the Rakghoul plague on Taris fighting their way to the surface. As they link up with groups of survivors scattered here and there in an attempt to flee the undercity - and eventually the planet - they must face waves of demonic creatures, scavengers, thieves, madmen and more. Perhaps a closer analogy would be to the Metro 2033 series of games.
    2) Experience the horrors of Tatooine: you play as a member of an expedition to map out and explore areas of the desert planet, but get stalked, hunted, captured, tortured, and more by a clan of terrifying Sand People. With an atmosphere like The Hills Have Eyes and gameplay like Outlast 2 (or Outlast), this is a no holds barred M-rated title that is made to expose a disturbing side of the galaxy far, far away.

Some of these ideas are less likely than others, but I feel as though the Star Wars universe has a nearly unlimited amount of potential for gaming purposes.

Just as long as EA DICE doesn't develop any.;)

    - An advanced starfighter simulator.
    - Podracing game in which tuning your pod plays a huge part (basically Racer remake).
    - Obviously something with good lightsaber combat. Maybe a prequel era, make your own Jedi kind of thing.
    - Anything that would let me play as Master Luke!

I'd be fine with such games being non-canon. Strict continuity can be great, but it's a major constraint when it comes to games.

Great thread! I'd like to riff off your idea a little bit.

    Star Wars: Civil War

Play as one of the few survivors of an Imperial demonstration on your home city. Do you join the Rebel Alliance to get your revenge? Or do you pledge yourself to Palpatine's Empire, having seen their insurmountable military might? Or, do you strike out on your own, looking for a way out of this war? The choice is yours- but your family might not feel the same way!

So basically, this would be a sandbox game. Think Sid Meier's Pirates, but more modern and more action. The game opens with an attack by stormtroopers (after character creation). You and your brother (or sister) manage to survive the assault, and manage to lay low on your planet for a while (during which a tutorial section will introduce you to basic game mechanics). Then, what ever the player decides to do, the brother ends up being at odds with. It would look like this:

If the player wants to join the Rebel Alliance or become a smuggler, the sibling will join the Empire.

If the player wants to join the Galactic Empire, the sibling will join the Rebels.

So, planets will feature locations that can be explored via third person action, while traversal between planets will be more like Meier's Pirates. This would allow for a grand sense of scale, while not requiring an unrealistic amount of resources. This way, we can get a good portion of most of the galaxy as explorable.

However, space battles will play our in 3rd person flight mechanics.

The player can recruit different unit types to join his cause- they can go to Kashyyyk, for instance, to recruit wookies- but recruitment is different per faction. For instance, if the Rebel player went to Kashyyyk, wookies would readily join their cause, but an Imperial player would need to capture the wookies. Conversely, an Imperial player could easily recruit on Coruscant, while a Rebel player would need to liberate part of the city each time they recruit there.

Fighters and capital ships also join your party as you purchase/capture them.

In addition to space battles, land battles can also occur, playing out om 3rd person. Any troops recruited in addition to mechs like AT-ATs also join the fray. Fighters can provide air support, but become vulnerable if they do so.

Basically, the point of the game is to find, defeat, and capture your sibling. However, the sandbox nature of the game allows for essentially infinite replayability.

    Star Wars smuggler.
    1. You start with being a cook in a pirate ship.
you can a) try to join a rebellion to get rid of the captain.
or b) start your own rebellion
    c) use poison to control ship.
End goal is to get your own ship.
Then start with working for Hutt. You can get more money from jobs to recruit droids, crew members.
Eventually you start your own smuggling empire.
When you get to level 30, the Yuuzhan Vong shows up and you can join the a) Empire b) NR or c) Join the Yuuzhan Vong as collaborator.
By level 100, you get to stat your own Empire, whereupon you get a report there is an upstart smuggler/pirate/rebellion at a random planet. End game.

Other than the Civil War idea, just a few others to toss out (some are pretty derivative):

a Total War for the Clone Wars

An actually good lightsaber fighting game. Maybe something like the ROTS game's (which was actually pretty fun) but waaay more fleshed out

Alternatively, a lightsaber fighting game using a system similar to For Honor

An arcade flight simulator game like Rogue Squadron, but set across all three eras

    A canon-friendly Telltale game

A cute, 4 player couch co-op game like Castle Crashers, set during the Clone Wars

A turn based strategy game like XCOM, dispatching elite Resistance fighters against First Order threats

An actually good Battlefront without sketchy business practices and good offline play/modes

I'd close by saying, I disagree with the approach of Battlefront II. Star Wars games should worry less about canon all the time and trying to fit into the box that could be considered agreeable with the current stories. Just give us "What if" scenarios, and let us go wild.

So many exciting ideas. EA sat fruitlessly on this gold mine long enough, time for someone to actually capitalize on the universal idea of Star Wars video games.

good lightsaber game. If they could just modernize the Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, it would do.
I must have spent more than 2 hours every single day back then with the beta (which contained one multiplayer level) with gamespy or HEAT.net

A open world Star Wars game where you role play as anything you want to be and have the ability to travel to other planets. (duel)

    That's the dream.

Instead, how about some microtransaction-laden apps, some Skylanders stuff, and two half-finished Battlefront games? :p

I admit that I am not a real gamer, but I do enjoy more of the open ended games. If you are familiar with an AD&D style game called Runescape... I could get wrapped up in a Star Wars version of this engine. Some modification would need to be made (obviously) Different servers could be design to reflect different planets, replacing AD&D NPCs/creatures with SW NPCs/creatures... SW themed quests... etc.

    Open world, multilinear RPG.

Game starts with character creation, the only thing you choose aside from your gender/species/appearance is whether or not you're Force sensitive. Every other choice you make happens during gameplay.

Choosing a Force sensitive character starts you off on a planet where it's up to you to pick which side to follow and which master you want to apprentice yourself to, with six options: light side diplomatic, light side combative, gray diplomatic, gray combative, dark side diplomatic, dark side combative. Each choice has a direct effect on the story and how well/poorly you are recieved by the galaxy at large. Lightsabers are the preferred weapon. Force sensitives can use blasters or vibroblades if they choose, but these weapons are clumsy and random and do not recieve the increased hit chance and defense bonus that a lightsaber does for these classes.

Choosing a non-Force sensitive starts you off on a planet where you can choose to be either a law abiding citizen or an outlaw. Law abiding citizens can join a military, learn diplomacy, or become a free trader. Outlaws can join a pirate gang, be an information broker, or become a smuggler. Again, each choice has a direct effect on everything that happens later on. Blasters and vibroblades are preferred. Lightsabers can be used, but the increased hit chance and defense bonus that Force sensitives gain from them is negated, making them no more effective than a vibroblade for these classes. Lightsabers are also much, much harder to come by on this planet.

After the starter planets and learning the class you've chosen, you move on to the beginning of the story on the second world you visit. This world is inhabited with sidekicks. You choose your sidekick, and if you play your cards right you may end up with more than one. You can choose any sidekick you like, Force sensitive, non-Force sensitive, male, female, Duros, Wookiee, droid, anyone. Depending on the class you choose, it may take more or less convincing(or credits) to get them to follow you; for instance, if you're a smuggler and you want a Jedi sidekick, it'll take quite a lot of convincing.

Once you have your sidekick, the story starts in earnest. A war begins and you're tasked with going out into the galaxy and either encouraging/helping one side, attempting to make peace between both sides, or aggravating the situation and/or profiting from it. Complications arise, ensue, are overcome and in the end, you're either a hero, a villain, a leaf on the wind, rich beyond your wildest dreams, or possibly a combination of those options. ;)

for anyone who hasn't, i recommend downloading SWTOR. It's super fun!

But i think a fun game would be an open world play through of the prequel trilogy. Freedom to fly between worlds instead of levels. Freedom to choose when you progress through the mission. Online play. I think it'd be fun to be a random Jedi during the prequels era and create your own jedi and just play through that. Be apart of the battles like The Geonosis Battle and be your own jedi in the arena. Be able to modify your starship. Explore the temple and coruscant. Explore any planet you'd like. Go see a podrace on tatooine

I'd take a game where you play as a squad of Clone Troopers from the Battle of Geonosis to Order 66 and beyond. Jumping from planet to planet with different objectives. On one planet, you could be doing a stealth mission and on another one, you're escorting a Jedi Master on an important mission. Maybe have the occasional level where you work with a character from the movies, like Anakin Skywalker or Mace Windu, or from TCW, like Ahsoka Tano or Commander Wolffe.

Heck, I wouldn't mind an expanded remaster of the 501st story from the OG Battlefront 2, though I don't know how well that'd fit into canon.

Yeah, that's the type of Star Wars game I'd like. Basically something like Elite Dangerous only in the Star Wars Universe.

Another RPG would be cool or collection of classic Star Wars games. ****-Wailer Hero. Maybe not.

This has probably been mentioned but a VR version of the old X-Wing game or a new VR star wars flight sim game would be a reason I would actually buy VR gear for home.

I think a massive game that allows you to fly from planet to planet (similar to No Man's Sky) and make a name for yourself. Game would be set in the early days of the empire and you can go down several paths (join empire, join rebellion, work as trader, work as smuggler, etc...). The one big thing is that the player would not have any force abilities or connection to the force. There could definitely be some Jedi you encounter and that would make for some interesting story lines where, for example, you join Vader as a bounty hunter and track down a jedi for him. Another big thing for this game would be seamless transition from planet to space to planet and so on to really immerse the player in the experience.

My Submission: You begin the game as Finn as just another Storm Trooper, going through battle you witness atrocities etc. Back on base in the middle of space you decide to defect. You must go through the base and avoid detection (metal gear solid style) with maybe a cool boss or two to escape the clutches of the First Order.

I think it would be neat to do and for some reason most games either decide to go full competitive or full rpg (which I DO like) but not every game has to be 1000+ hour affair. So, I'd like to see a cool stealth star wars game. It could be any scenario but I'd like to see more involvement with Finn.

If there was a VR X wing game I would shell out 1000 bucks to have it. I would legit call in my vacation time and probably lose a substantial amount of weight from not eating lol. That would be amazing. I LOVE those x wing fighter games.

My dream Star Wars game is pretty straightforward: open-world, single player RPG style game. Build your own character. Choose whether to become Jedi or scoundrel. Choose whether to fight with Rebellion or Empire (or whichever forces are at work).
