The Gunslinger was pretty good( better than last episode, simply for the nostalgia factor but not perfect, leaving babyoda behind was kind of lame... brain fart). I’m at work watched it on my iPhone. Things that stood out to me: Mando on dewback, communicating with Tuskins, back to Tatooine, what happened to Wuher... a droid takes over Chalman’s Cantina, TPM pit driods scared of Mando, Mando asking a droid for work, docking bay attendant reminds me old western barkeep, gullible inexperienced partner, swoop bikes or speeder bikes... will watch again at home. To be honest, I enjoyed it because I'm a huge fan of ANH. KRAYT DRAGONS I WANT KRAYT DRAGONS :D

Wow!! Always know that the powers that be, will send us a curve ball when we least suspect. I like the repair shop lady. She was gobsmacked by the Kid. So far, either everyone loves the kid, or everyone hates him and wants him dead. The female bounty....well. An unknown, but who was walking up to her body at the very end? Another Bounty Hunter? Someone who cares? Someone with her, although I'd think she'd be alone. An Assassin won't trust anyone, her mistake with the young man traveling with Mando. Big if here. Her future may have been different if she'd kept her mouth shut. Maybe.

    first thoughts

I instantly love the transition of Mos Eisley from what we saw in New Hope to now, it feels rundown now, the streets and bars are quieter, the Cantina is a stark contrast from its heyday, can't afford a band to play anymore, droids are now running the place as opposed to not being allowed in.

also the connection to the prequels with the pit droids was a nice touch

Dewbacks, Bantha's, Sandpeople and the twin suns, the whole episode felt like a love letter for that planet that started everything we first knew about Star Wars, Just hearing the guy on the comms mention 'Mos Eisley' was the confirmation you already thought when you saw the similar sight of a desert planet below.
Just that alone gave me chills..

Storywise was probably the slowest of the show so far, with not much movement from where he was before his duel in space sent him down to Tatooine, apart from confirming that he is a wanted man now by the guild and the planet's name that all the earlier action took place, was it nashara?..

And then lastly the characters appearance at the end, probably Greef Carga now in hot pursuit of our hero

The young man is a wannabe Billy the Kid, twirling his gun, quick drawing his blaster while is Mando is propped up against his bike "sleeping".

Take away: Mando is not infaliable, not invincible, not indistructable. He makes mistakes. (I need my pocket dictionary at my computer)

I vote Mando gets a speeder bike and hangs it in back, close to the down ramp. But, then, maybe the walking is good for his soul.

Oh, and btw. The Splash screens for show credits are frame worthy and being hung on the wall good looking. I'd buy a book of them.

BabyY is having a good time. He gurgled up a storm with hanger Bay woman and her cooing and actually snuggling him up. BabyY laughs in abundance. In Chapter 5 we hear more baby talk, vocal response and sounds than in any previous Episodes combined.

I hope we see more of Hanger Bay 35 along with it's crew.

I'm already re-thinking this and thinking its going to be a bigger reveal than Greef Carga, but who? a new character another old classic character making a re-appearance..

I may have squeed just a little when I heard "Mos Eisley." But everyone else was asleep in my house so it was a quiet squee. ;) I loved the irony of a droid running the cantina now. I have to say though that the nostalgia schtick actually started to annoy me a bit by the end because it was so heavy handed. Like when the mechanic said "wamp rat" after we just heard it in the last episode.

So about this doofus bounty hunter wannabe... Couldn't he have taken the assassin's body back with him on the swoop bike? Since she's dead and all and he could just stick her anywhere? But I guess the bike just wouldn't hold two even though she looked like she weighed 90 pounds? I mean, if he wanted to get a good bounty, why not bring in two elite bounties instead of leaving one wasted in the desert?

Anyway, time with her was way too short. Seems like it should have been harder to take her down, though I guess by herself she didn't have much of a chance against two...when one of them is the Mando. (His reputation is not unwarranted. :D)

The dude at the end...I'm guessing this is our introduction to Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito)? I liked the "spurs jingling" sound he made when he walked up to Ming-Na Wen's character.

Anyway, this one seemed odd in terms of the progression of the series. In terms of the Mando's internal journey, and his ability to take care of Babyoda, this one seems to belong before chapter 4. There he was afraid to let Babyoda play with a village full of people watching him, but here he was fine with stuffing him in a closet.

BabyY's eyes were closed. He was sleeping. Mando shut the door on his sleeping area. 99% of parents never leave their child alone in the house. true, but he has no choice here. Mando hasn't a clue as to how to nurture an infant, make them happy and thrive. Hanger Bay 35 woman may not have children showing, but she treats those silly pit droids as sort of kids. BabyY responds to her, big time, chatting and gurgling away. And then she sends a pit droid out for baby food. Humor is rampant here...she tells the droid, "something with bones". She's not a mom, or she'd opt for mush as the safest baby food.

Mando's ship can be hit many times, other bounty hunters' ships only once.
If you turn a spaceship off and on again, that fixes blast damage. CTRL ALT DEL of spaceships.
Knowing the guild and what's left of the Empire are hunting for Baby Yoda, and having just escaped from a bounty hunter tracking him through space, Mando leaves the child alone and unprotected in a spaceport hangar; he has to; he needs to pay for ship repairs.
The first bar Mando walks into is miraculously occupied by a novice bounty hunter willing to give up his entire bounty.
The guild sends non-member rookies out to capture notorious assassins.
Having destroyed his tracking fob, the rookie finds his bounty's exact location in a vast desert using brain power.
The rookie, obsessed with getting in the guild, kills his bounty because she suggests Mando is more valuable. He has no way of knowing whether this is true when he kills her. He just takes her word for it.
The rookie returns to the spaceport hangar, taking Baby Yoda and the mechanic hostage.
In the end, Mando kills the rookie. It turns out Mando had money all along and never really needed work, making the whole episode pointless.

I'm glad my kids like this series, but suspension of disbelief is difficult here. The further we get into the series, the sloppier it gets.

Spoiler alert: when Mando takes off his mask, he won't look like Pedro Pascal. He'll be some kind of non-human.

Upon rewatch...looks like the bounty for the assassin is alive only. So no point in bringing her back once she's dead.

Also, the Mando has the baby in a Transportation Safety Department-approved car seat now. :D

The camera focuses in on the Mando taking the credits from the dead kid’s body. That’s what he pays the mechanic with.

i'm a bit frustrated by this. that baby is the most valuable asset in the galaxy as far as Mando is concerned, but he seems not much bothered by where he puts it or who he gives it to. not smart, not organic, and just mostly lazily convenient to shovel it off so that he can have shootouts that would frankly be more exciting if the baby was constantly at risk of being caught in crossfire.

all that kvetching aside, i loved the droids at the bar, i loved the sand people and their sign language, and i loved the Dewback! : D
given the short running time, this one felt like an intersplicer ~ we'll get more meat on the next one for sure.

(stormtrooper)(stormtrooper)I enjoyed the episode immensely! I loved the throwbacks to the beginning of the entire Star Wars journey and see this as (although being a slowish episode) a great starting point for more aggressive episodes.

We had character development in the first 4 episodes and I see this one as kicking of the way a new hope did. Tatooine is the starting point, mos eisley mentions, sand people, finding a scoundrel, the pit droids from the prequels, even a beggars canyon mention! Best part you ask... the stormtrooper helmets.
    (stormtrooper)(stormtrooper)(stormtrooper)(stormtrooper)(stormtrooper)

I also like how they reaffirmed his distrust of droids after giving us a flash back last episode that pretty much explains his demeanor towards droids (family killed in a separatist droid attack). It also showed how much he needed work asking the Chalman’s Cantina droid for work.

The kid didn’t make much sense though. Teaming up with Mando was a good move until he screwed that up. Why not take in two big bounties? I’m sure with a bounty like that dead or alive would have been fine for either. Maybe he planned to pick up the body once he killed Mando and could use his ship to pick up her body (I’m not sayin, I’m just sayin).

Lastly, I liked how they brought the focus back to Mando. They left TINY out for much of the episode so you would focus on Mando and the plot developments. Being tracked by the guild and old empire; seeing that even though he’s such a notorious bounty hunter he gave everything to the Mandolorian combine and had to use money from the kids body to pay his debts; and lastly the new threat. Who is the new bounty hunter on his trail, or is it an ally tracking him (he’s not that lucky). I can’t wait to see Chapter 6!!!

Haha, knew you'd dig the Dewback. :D

Definitely a "transition" chapter. This episode seemed designed not to move the Mando forward so much as to show what he's lacking. Maybe he needs a (trusted) partner if he and Babyoda are both going to survive this.

We got a space pursuit, multiple standoffs and shootouts, speeder bikes, new characters, betrayal, and lots of callbacks to the movies. I like seeing new planets but it's also fun to revisit old ones. Tatooine is an iconic Star Wars location and you'd expect to see familiar sights in a place featured as much as this one in both the originals and prequels. I'm very pleased they spent one of the eight episodes here.

The Mandalorian is in a serious predicament. He has to make money to survive. He doesn't really have any nurturing qualities, and leaving the kid with someone didn't work. Trying to hide the kid on his ship hasn't worked either. He can't find a place to lay low and he can't trust anyone. Times are tough and that kid is a huge payday so everyone is out for them. There doesn't seem to be a right way to get anything done and he's running out of options. Bring on the next episode!

Another solid episode. I think it's safe to assume that is Boba Fett at then end of the episode. The sound is the biggest hint and it sounds like Fett from Empire. If it were any other planet I wouldn't think that, but given Filoni wrote/directed the episode I think it's safe to assume.

This kind of sums up Star Wars. This has never been a IP that you want to think very hard about. You have to suspend your disbelief to work out the timeline of Empire. You have to suspend your disbelief to think through the rescue plan in Return of the Jedi. You'll probably enjoy this stuff more if you don't think too hard about it.
