    As an avid Star Wars fan myself, and one who has looked at most, if not all the spoilers so far for The Force Awakens, there is one question still left that has me puzzled. You may ask, well, what is it? It's actually more of a WHO is it? Yes, the question is will Mara Jade become Canon in The Force Awakens. There has been pointless gossip, rumors, speculation all around this topic, but I want to here what The Cantina thinks. For me, at least, she is most certainly going to be canon and streamlined, thanks to three important events. One, The Thrawn Trilogy, which was heralded for bringing Star Wars back to life in the 90's, and is arguably some of the greatest science fiction novels of all time, introduced Admiral Thrawn, Gilad Pellaeon, Talon Karrde, and most importantly, Mara Jade, one of Sci-Fi's greatest female characters, and probably the single most loved and important character of Star Wars not featured in the movies, while as a whole series deserves to be made in some form into Canon. Two, an actress from Guardians of the Galaxy showed off some hair of hers that she had shaved off for "special reasons", which of course, was RED and ORANGE, like Mara Jade's. And finally, three, is the rumor still floating around not all of the cast members have been announced, including those of the main cast. So again, just comment anything about Mara you can see happening in TFA, Canon, and of course, whether or not she will be canonized.

    I believe Disney/lucasfilm want a fresh start, that is why we got "EU Legends".

    If EU characters are enticing enough for a movie then they will rename the character, but they will look very similar, and also possibly create a new story. I doubt Disney/lucasfilm purged the EU into the legends category just to then turn around and pick and choose as that would open a wasp nest of "why is mara jade canon but thrawn isn't".

    As much as we love EU characters, we do not get a say in any of this. :(

    Good points. But honestly, characters like Thrawn and Jade can be re-introduced for two things. Plot, because they are two very good characters, and they're both major Cash-Cows. You have book s based on them, games, cards, figures, etc., and they are both some of the highest sellers of those. I think they will be heavily reworked, but it can work :)

    I agree, i just take a more pessimistic look at the film industry today unfortunately :D

    Hell, we might get a faithful representation (keeping the stories and characters the same) for Mara and Thrawn but i have a feeling they will never name the characters after EU characters.

    ANNDDD here we go:

    MARA JADE (to me) is one of THE single-most pivotal characters that the Expanded Universe/Legends has to offer. Keep in mind; She not ONLY served the Emperor as the "Emperor's Hand" (see; Jedi assassin, Rebel and sympathizer hunter, etc), but was left with final instructions (in the emperor's will...so to speak) to KILL LUKE SKYWALKER....and ultimately she couldn't do it and ended up being LUKE SKYWALKER'S WIFE!!!! WOW, who is this woman??

    Mara Jade "began life" (in our story) as a force user that was noticed by the Emperor as a (probably) teenager, that was trained in the force by the best bad guys that he could recruit. She ended up (in layman's terms) as a really badass, hot redhead killer of jedi, rebels, and all sympathizers equally....she was someone, that if she showed up at your door....you were finished.

    When Vader dispatched his master, it is said that the master left final instructions (perhaps foreseeing his own demise) for Mara to kill the young Skywalker. In the vacuum that remained following the Emperors death, she moved on to be a smuggler and apparently with her force abilities, was good at it. Eventually, she was forced to work with Luke, and despite always remembering her final orders, she gained a grudging respect for Luke and his morals, and....eventually fell in love with him.

    Well, the story goes on that Mara and Luke finally get "married" and Luke finishes her training in the Jedi arts, for Mara to eventually end up as a Jedi Master on the council of the New Jedi Order, Luke even awards Mara (like a wedding ring) his fathers lightsaber...the VERY SAME one that Anakin lost at the end of ROTS and the SAME one that Obi-wan gives the young Luke at the beginning of ANH.....but the story doesn't end there....there's a Skywalker child.

    Mara and Luke become the parents of Ben Skywalker (Obi-wan's namesake), and Mara ultimately takes Han and Leia's daughter Jaina as her padawan learner, training her to Jedi knighthood. As the story goes, Mara is finally felled by the blade of Jacen Solo (Han and Leia's son) during a confrontation after Mara learned of his treachery in dabbling in the dark arts.....it's a sad ending to a glimmering, pivotal character in the Skywalker legacy.

    Now, there's been speculation and rumor (regarding TFA and remaining trilogy) that Luke has potentially had a "love child", that he is possibly unaware of and later introduced to (blah, blah, blah) to be surprised by. If there is ANY weight to this rumor coming to fruition, my only hope is that if this storyline DOES materialize in SOME fashion, that Mara from the brilliant EU that she lived in, be brought under the SW Canon umbrella. I'd be happy if there were only a mere mention of her name, let alone overjoyed to see her in a speaking role on the screen, and that it not get screwed up in the end.....like this, I would. Here's to you Mara...

    I doubt Mara will be in TFA I've seen threads like this that speculate her being in this one but that would raise predictions of her facing Jacen Solo in this one after he tried to turn her & Luke son Ben to the darkside, it would just go down the path of the novels leading up to the final one sacrifice so far JJ has been quiet about her appearing, we can only hope.
    Shannon McRandle never looked better.

    Casting for TFA still hasn't finished yet more female actors are being snapped for roles everyday seen the photos none relating to Mara Jade.

    I personally hope we don't get Mara Jade. I've said it this in at least 3 or 4 other threads, but for the sake of driving home a point: JJ and Kasden aren't lazy enough to rely on the EU as a crutch. A reference here or there, sure, why not. But plot lines and Major characters are almost definitely out.

    I also hope any topic of marriage is avoided, even regarding Han and Leia. If fans hated the prequel"s politics, I can't see prenups and divorce proceedings going much better for the ST.

    Yeah, that fits in line with how people think Leia and Han may actually be estranged, to say the least. I wouldn't call reusing characters as lazy, seeing how comic books and all do that, and Star Wars itself now has several Marvel Comic book lines. But I do agree that Kasdan and JJ aren't lazy enough to use the old stuff, because frankly most of it was meh or bad, and if it wasn't, why declare everything non-canon?. I did, however, and still do, find much of Mara Jade and Thrawn to be very good and fitting in with Star Wars overall.

    I kept up with the EU for a long time, since at the time it was apparently going to be the only new SW we'd get. I always had the hots for M-Jade. Not gon' lie brah.

    Mara Jade is hot. We all wanted to be Luke in the OT. Maybe Han for the chicks, but the Force was cooler, at least to me. We knew Han got slave Bikini Leia.... and that was HOT. She was, and we could also be happy being Han.

    Luke was left single and alone at the end of RotJ, except for a sister he only knew as a companion and fellow fighter, a couple droids, some scoundrel now free to pursue his sister, and a loud Wookiee.

    Mara Jade is a Green-Eyed, Red-Head _with_ Force Powers. Caps intentional prior and after--SUPER HOT. +1 to Leia... my being lazy here, and +10 because fiction can never compete with Carrie Fischer... so I make her an 11 out of 10.

    Still, Mara Jade was our natural 20 roll.... if we wanted to be Luke.

    We (the males at least) _mostly_ all wanted to be Luke (before we found out we can't even pull off being Han or Lando), and wondered what sort of girl we might get. She's the bad girl who was able to be brought back the the light side-- into Luke's arms--our arms. She could kick ass, fight by our side, and while she might argue with us, she would always follow us. No arguments about bills or dishes there.

    Mara Jade is---I got her figure with a skip in my heart---mostly just fan-fic.

    I hate to say it, and I'll probably get my first negative marks here for it... but she will probably not make it into the movies, at least as we know her.

    She's a cool character, but probably not the direction that these movies will honor.

    The idea that Disney wont use EU elements is to me silly. They wont take large chunks or whole stories but I think some elements will make it in. Where elements work they will use them were they don't they will go in other directions. I personally don't think or want Luke to have kids in TFA because it is to big a story to be just backstory. That said if a mother to Luke's children is mentioned i can imagine a number of books, comics and the next go round of animated series will delve into Luke's love life.
