Marketing for TROS...

    Almost a month from now TROS will be out and yet hardly any marketing at all. Yes, there has been some, but considering this suppose to be the end of the Skywalker saga and possibly the ST it's really been less than stellar.

    I'm in no way saying shove it down our throats or anything but it's just odd to me that it's been next to nothing. Of course that could change tomorrow.

    I've been assuming that they have been doubling down on Disney+ marketing till now and will switch over to TRoS this week, when I expect everything to ramp up. I sure hope I'm right, because we haven't even gotten the international trailer yet. :eek:

    In the past there's been some new footage in the international trailer IIRC.

    Usually TV spots start giving us little bits of new stuff as we get closer to release date too. So far, we've had like two TV spots, none of which had new stuff. We got more from the airline safety video. :p

    I’ve been pretty disappointed with Lucasfilm/Disney’s marketing for this movie. Hell, I’ve been disappointed with their marketing for everything Star Wars related since The Last Jedi. (Solo, Resistance, Galaxy’s Edge, The Mandalorian, Jedi: Fallen Order, and now this.)

    I know Frozen 2 appeals to a wider audience and comes out sooner, but during my recent trips to various malls in the last few weeks, it’s been astounding to see how heavily that movie’s being promoted at various stores and how little I saw for The Rise of Skywalker (or The Mandalorian and Jedi: Fallen Order for that matter.)

    For the last two ST movies (and even Rogue One), marketing and promotions were all over the place. It feels like whoever is in charge of marketing has really dropped the ball this time around. Poor marketing was a big reason why Solo performed poorly and I’d hate to see that happen again.

    The marketing push will happen. Every SW cycle (except for Solo which was a marketing mess) complaints are made that not enough marketing is being done. Then 600 (exaggeration of course) different tv spots get released. I suspect the same is about to happen here

    I agree with the above posts. We saw this same strategy with Endgame: barely anything, then a massive last month push.

    The one thing that gives me pause is the toys. By this time, TROS toys should be everywhere ready for Christmas shopping. But where are they? My local Walmart literally has less Star Wars toys than before triple force Friday, and Target isn't much better.

    I think the marketing will ramp up after Frozen 2 comes out. They have a lot on their plate of movies coming out and I don't think they want one to take away from another. Frozen 2 gets the Thanksgiving holiday crowd and TROS gets the Christmas holiday crowd.

    I have to assume the International trailer will be the weekend of the 23rd November.
    Tv spots with newer footage after that.
    Patience is the key.

    We just got a new Star Wars novel, a new video game(Jedi Fallen Order which is really good btw), new Star Wars comic books come out every Wednesday, every Sunday a new Resistance episode, Friday a new Mando episode, what more do we need... 32 days is gonna wiz on by, with all this content! I got my hands full, oh and collecting the toys too, Great to be a Star Wars fan today!!!

    I'm not watching anymore TROS trailers or tv spots. ( I stopped watching trailers for Terminator Dark Fate so I can do the same for Star Wars). Trailers nowadays reveal too much... I have enough content( Disney+ Rebels, Clone Wars, Mando, etc...) to keep me satisfied till Thursday Dec. 19. at 6pm ( I got my tickets :D) No more trailers for me...

    I feel the same. TFA was an amazing marketing campaign, with Kylo’s face everywhere in same way Vader’s was for the OT. They had the incredible Blad Builders Lightsabers so you could make crazy concoctions, and even recreate EU/Legends type lightsabers. I just ordered one on Amazon myself.

    But you are right TLJ was lackluster and now TRoS marketing and toys has been underwhelming. For this being the “End of the Skywalker Saga” there certainly is an air of “let’s put very little effort into it.” The Mandalorian is getting better coverage. Perhaps this is a case of two many major Disney projects at once:

    • The Rise of Skywalker
    • The Mandalorian
    • Frozen 2
    I wish Frozen had been delayed tell next year so that this could be the year of Star Wars.

    Trust me, the same thing happened with a TFA and TLJ. I remember saying the same thing in Nov 2015 and Nov 2017 and then.......the floodgates opened after Thanksgiving. In December, we’ll all be saying it’s too much marketing as it will be everywhere on Late Night, Commercials, etc.

    In saying that, I still contend Disney cares more about the reception for The Mandallorian than TROS cause I think they feel Disney+ is the future of the franchise, not the big screen.

    Do you think we will see future standalone films like “Rogue One” on Disney+ instesd of the theaters? Kinda like how Netflix and Amazon Prime makes their own exclusive movies.
