That’s a good question. I think they would make a Solo TV show instead of a movie as they have more time to tell that type of story. The Saga movies are sort of made for the big screen because of the nature of the story, but a Kenobi, Solo or Cassian story is better for the small screen.

Just to give you context, I rarely goto to the movies anymore as my weekends are binge watching shows on Netflix, Amazon, etc. 10-15 years ago, I was either renting a movie or going to the movies. The small screen is telling better stories then the Big screen these days, IMO.

You make very good points. Disney probably will lean series. Actually GL planned the movies I-IX to be serials like on TV, so Disney is actually making that vision a reality.

I am the same. I rarely go to the theaters because its so expensive. I binge Disney+, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. In fact, tonight I plan to binge “The Crown Season 3” on Netflix. :D

That’s next on my list after I finish Season 4 of ‘The Man in the High Castle.’ :)

Sorry for derailing the thread. Back to TROS marketing.

I'm the same way. I hardly ever go. I went a few months ago and I will for TROS, but other than that I just don't go anymore.

I watched “The Man in the High Castle” Season 1, but I didn’t like the parallel universe /psych explanation in Season 2. I preferred when you thought it was what if the Axis powers had won WWII, and that a Resistance rises to make our history happen (its invitable).

Back to marketing, I really wish there was more swag, like pendants of Rebel, First Order, and Imperial insignias.

I just wish they would Market Star Wars like they use to. The studios really over saturate themselves and really just seem to care more about the dates of when it comes out than the actual movie.

It’s a different world now. Over-marketing too early would likely turn-off some casual viewers. There’s too many options out there for immediate consumption. Anyone who was going to pre-purchase a ticket this far in advance likely already has. The rest just simply don’t prioritize that far out. They just need reminding of how important it is and what a big event it is, a week or two before it hits. I’m sure Disney has plans to let everyone know this holiday season is all about Star Wars.

It does seem like the marketing isn't as front and center as it was for The Force Awakens, but I'm sure it'll ramp up soon. At least one would expect it to ramp up soon.

I thought they basically said (Iger) that the one shot films are done. I think they will do some series, obviously, but are now trying to figure out what the heck comes next. Obviously whatever happened with Benioff and Weiss threw them (LFL/Disney) for a bit of a loop and now it's regroup time.

The great thing about TV (be it on a traditional network or streaming) is that, as Game of Thrones (and other shows) have shown is that you can tell an indepth and involved story spread out over a number of seasons, and people will watch it. I'm looking forward to all of the new Star Wars streaming shows. I mean what's not to like about an Obi-Wan series?

Quite frankly, I think TRoS marketing sucks, and you'd have thought they would've learned from the Solo debacle. Heck, when TFA was being marketed, comparatively speaking, it was EVERYWHERE....now...crickets.

Here we are, a month away from "the end" of the Skywalker saga, and we've gotten a couple of glimpses of a movie that is supposed to be the end of over 40 years of this story...I think it's potentially box-office Russian Roulette, an makes absolutely no sense to me.....at all.

I think they are playing it right. Let the Mandalorian act as a sort of palate cleanser, potential tie-in and use the big Thanksgiving 4-day period for a pretty high visibility marketing push, then go quiet again until about 2 weeks out and start a big blitz. Over saturation can be an issue which Disney/LFL might have identified as an issue up to this point.

TROS does seem to be suffering from the Christmas Creep.,They marketed the film ao early, even releasing the toys on OCT 4, that people are already sick of it. They should have focusec on Mando, then around now start the TRoS push.

You do know that Force Friday for other films have been earlier. Who are these people that are sick of it?

Yeah, I'm not sure they are tired of it as it's been almost invisible, at least out in my neck of the woods. Like seriously, the Walmart's here that I've been to have a large Frozen 2 display, but when it comes to Star Wars, nothing. Like there are NO TOYS here that weren't here in say April. Or last year. It's kind of sad as far as that goes.

I expect they will ramp things up in the next week or two, BUT it doesn't seem to me that it is anything like what we saw for The Force Awakens or even for Rogue One. Make of that what you will.

I am merging the effects of Christmas Creep with TRoS being pushed so early. I am stating when you market so early before a release or holiday, by the time people get to it they have lost the zeal, magic, and excitement they had. I am theorizing that TRoS could be like Christmas, it being pushed so early before the release day that people get tired of it because their excitment wains.

Edit: I exclude us die hard and serious fans, I am talking about general populace.

What new toys? They had very little new merchandise. And that is mostly to avoid giving away content by people seeing toys that show stuff and have descriptions for people to decipher. Like look at The Mandalorian they didnt even make a Razorcrest toy for Force Friday and certainly no toys that gave away the surprise in the show.

The marketing has been minimal. A trailer and a few interviews in magazines.

Not at the department stores I’ve been to that have huge displays with Rey and Kylo life size who ignite glowing lightsabers as you approach. And we’ve had three trailers: Teaser, D23, and the latest NFL one. Soon the International trailer will be here.

What new merchandise. I mean really new. Not TROS packaging of existing. Just 2 weeks ago I went to find a Lego set for my sons birthday. What TROS choices did I have. An AT-ST from The Mandalorian and the Y-Wing from TROS. So he never made a Y-Wing before so that was OK, but had this been his main present it would have been a disappointment. They are holding things back.

Im sorry but normal cycle of trailers mostly available on demand on things like YouTube or at a theater is not the marketing that people are talking about that people would say enough already. I never saw the D23 trailer at a theater. Saw the new footage once during an NFL game and was shocked. Other then that very little TV advertisement.

That's what I mean. People talking about "Force Friday" and I'm like well there wasn't jack blast on the shelves out here. Nothing. Nothing new. Why is that? I honestly don't know, but when it came to toys they have put nothing out (again, at least not where I live).

Personally I think this is, to some extent, a huge mistake. I think they could have, at least for The Mandalorian put out a toy for him and his ship. Hell, put out a toy for Nick Nolte's character. They probably could put some stuff out for The Rise of Skywalker as well. I don't think EVERY toy is gonna be a spoiler.

I hope this changes. I hope that, at some point, they do start dropping stuff for, at least, The Mandalorian and even for The Rise of Skywalker.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 18, 2019 ---
Where is that at? Seriously, at my Target and WalMart (been to two of each) the shelves were threadbare to say the least. Thats leading up to and after "Force Friday."

I will say this (apparently I’m in the minority) but I think the teaser and trailer were both WAY underwhelming. A great trailer doesn’t = great movie but the point of a trailer is to get you hyped. Every Saga trailer that I can remember since Episode 1 has done its job on me: Got me super juiced for the movie and the blood pressure increases. I watched TROS trailer during the MNF and it did absolutely nothing for me as I’m still in shock they didn’t throw a money shot of Palpatine or some context to his return. It worries me that they are worried that fans won’t buy it so they don’t want to advertise anything.
