Which is surprisingly getting fairly favorable reviews. I was a bit worried that we were going to have another Iron Fist situation.

Why would Sony intentionally come with bad ideas, especially in regards to Spider-Man related films? Why not announce films that will actually* be a part of the MCU?

*if Marvel and Sony made any more plans together...

So I finished Iron Fist last night....I'm gonna try to keep this non-spoilery but I probablly can't.
    Brace for rambling:

I hate to say it was my least favorite of the Netflix series. Its a bummer because I thought it was going to be my number 1. :(
The guy playing Danny was just not that good, in my opinion. I wasn't buying the "Rage" he would sporadically display. And the show was just kind of boring to me.
As with most of these shows, the tormented pseudo-villain is the most interesting and compelling character (Ward).
The special effects were sub-par. (Kunlun, those "memory/rage" lines that form around Danny when he's thinking and losing it...did someone just run an After Effects tutorial for the first time???).
The fight scenes were overall pretty weak. Danny's Kung Fu was not very convincing. And (this is a nit pick) I couldn't get over how stupid Danny's hair looked the whole time. Please put the cowl on!!!:p
Also...Clair beating up trained killers? Clair flying to China to take out the Hand? Clair was way too involved in this show for my liking. Condescending and feeding her "expert" opinion to Danny and Coleen all the time: "I know other people with powers. This is what you should do." Clair, why don't you go find these other people with powers, and get them to HELP.
I was really hoping for this show to get crazy and cool, but i never does. And it seemed like it was produced on a shoestring budget.

    Ok, now for the Pros!
As with most of the Netflix Marvel shows, the Villains were the highlight for me. Especially Ward and to an extent Harold (Sorry, Bokudo. You were weak sauce). I liked the Davos character. I liked the Coleen character and her twist. The overall story arc was decent, but hampered by weak acting and weak action. The Iron Fist technique usually looked cool. (although sometimes it just looked like a guy off screen was just shining a flashlight on Danny's hand.)

So I didn't hate it...But I certainly didn't love it. To me it's not in the same league as the rest of the Netflix shows, which is a shame. It had potential to be the best, or at least the most fun. I guess that's my main issue: It was not fun to watch.

Spider-Man 4 was planned though. Concept art, and story ideas had started being developed. Vulture was to be the main villain of the film.

However, the higher-ups at Sony believed a reboot was the better choice.

Likewise, Raimi wasn't fond of the story he was working on. He wasn't convinced it would work with what he had along. Add Sony's pressure, they decided a reboot would be better.

Also, let's not forget the influence of Avi Arad who helped get Venom forced into Spider-Man 3 and who is no doubt behind these stupid plans for the Venom movie that is currently in development.

As a huge martial arts & Marvel fan I really looked forward to Iron Fist but.... I'm look forward to season 2 and The Defenders. Hoping Finn Jones does a better job.

The rated R Venom flick does seem forced considering the success of Deadpool and Logan. Hopefully the box office will prove not to cash in on a trend. Make films because there is a real story to tell...

He's already said choreography that used to take him days to learn, he's managed to successfully learn in a few hours during Defenders filming.

Also, let's not forget Daredevil is in a suit with a mask, meaning that it's much easier to substitute Charlie Cox with a stunt double, than it is for Finn Jones.
Haha, I completely forget about him... the guy who supported the idea of an Iron Man toaster film .

It was more along the lines of the script for Spider-Man 4 being absolutely f*cking terrible. J. J. J. was written out with Adrian Toomes buying his company out, whose daughter Felicia Hardy becomes the Vulturess (yes, really) after he dies and she seduces Peter, ruining his marriage with Mary Jane, causing her to divorce him and take custody of their kid, and causing him to quit being Spider-Man for a second time. The end.

Oh, and on top of that, Avi Arad wanted Carnage thrown in there somewhere, for the purpose of developing a Venom spin-off that nobody wanted (at least not under his supervision). The short of it makes it sound like Sony wanted The Dark Knight, only they had no idea what made TDK good, so they threw whatever depressing sh*t into the movie that they could in hopes that it would make for a bold new take on the character.

The only redeeming thing that the movie would have had was a montage near the beginning where Spidey faces off with some of his B-list enemies in rapid succession - featuring Bruce Campbell as an unmasked Mysterio! But it was for the best that the series ended where it did - shame Sony didn't have to foresight to make a deal with Marvel when they rebooted Spider-Man for the first time. (Because Avi Arad told them not to. Oops.)

Because adultery is the best way to get the audience to root for your character ;). And Sony wonders why audiences trust Marvel more than them to handle Spider-Man and his various side characters.

Everyone has no doubt been begging for a movie about Silver Sable(D-List Black Widow) and Black Cat(B-List Marvel version of Cat Woman). Same goes for a hard R Rated Venom, despite the fact that Venom's history is overwhelmingly PG. I'm sure it has nothing to with Fox's recent successful films whatsoever...

Depends on the storyline. Carnage is definitely suited for an R-rated film.

You can more easily make the case for a Carnage R Rated film, him being a serial killing psychopath and all. Even then, the majority of stories featuring him are pretty PG.

More important though, Carnage and Venom aren't well suited for solo movies as they are both pretty one dimensional, even after decades of stories(Carnage in particular). Also, Venom in particular is incredibly tied to Spider-Man, regardless of which incarnation you go with. A Venom movie with no connection to Spider-Man is akin to a Joker movie without Batman. Can you do it? Sure, but what's the point.

I think you hypothetically could make a Joker movie without Batman in it, but you would need Joker's background to be associated with the existing lore of Gotham City and all that jazz. It wouldn't make any sense if you had some guy in clown makeup calling himself Joker running around in Seattle (that is to say, "our world") on a killing spree, for instance.

You certainly could, but you at least need to acknowledge Batman's existence. Venom on the other hand is going to be out of the MCU. Are they going to put a vague reference to a Spider-Man who may or may not be Tom Holland? Sounds like a great way to muddy the waters. Additionally, unlike Joker, Venom isn't a super well known character among the general movie going audience, so they can't just take his origin for granted in the same way that they can with a more well-known character like the Joker. This all brings us back to how incredibly tied to Spider-Man Venom is in his origin. By divorcing Venom from Spider-Man, you basically have a brand new character, which is what they should have gone for anyway.

It's not like Venom is a super well-known character that audiences will flock to on name recognition alone, that is doubly the case for characters like Black Cat and Silver Sable. They could easily make a movie about a car burglar teaming up with a spy without dragging C and D list Spider-Man characters into it. I would understand this move if these characters were super well-known and popular with audiences, but that simply isn't the case(Silver Sable is somewhat obscure even among comic book readers). Venom has only appeared in one poorly received Spider-Man movie where he was handled terribly and Black Cat and Silver Sable haven't even appeared in the movies before(and no, the Felicia Hardy cameo in ASM2 doesn't count).

The blindingly stupid actions from Sony lately just defy any kind of common sense or knowledge of how name recognition in movies works. I thought that maybe, just maybe, Sony would realize how much more profitable it is to work with Marvel and that the power of the almighty dollar(which even comic book haters like Rothman can appreciate) would keep them on the straight and narrow. Clearly though, I have underestimated the staggering stupidity that is infecting the higher ups at Sony. In all honesty, I hope Sony gets hacked again because I'm dying to see the justifications that they are coming up with for their latest round of stupid decisions.

Thor: Ragnarok trailer is up... nice nod to the classic Thor helmet and the "friend from work" line.
