Depends what you mean by mature. I don't really want to watch Star Wars porn. And I think that would be a big mistake.
If you mean a more complex and intellectual storyline, okay. I'll even take a little graphic violence to an extent, but too much is too much.

^^ I'm pretty much in the same boat.

Right now, I wanna say no. Keep it PG-13.

But at the same time, I understand the times change, people and viewpoints evolve, and different standards are established. Remember when it was "controversial" that RotS earned the PG-13 tag? Now it's the status quo.

I would be okay if LFL ventured into the waters of a more mature Star Wars, but really they don't need to. They truly have a great thing going for them, and, why mess with it?

If they get the green light on this the master storytellers of our time DB and Dave can give us some of their world famous sexposition scenes.

Nudity would surprise me; more heated or passionate scenes would not. It can be done tastefully, and I'm sure they have the tact to understand that. GoT can be gratuitous, sure, but this isn't the GoT franchise we're discussing here.

And, overall, I know you weren't a fan of their most recent stuff, but that's 7 episodes. Out of 67. So by and large, they're still roughly in the 85-90% hit rate. I'm not trying to come off as presumptuous, but was this past season so disappointing that it ruined everything else they've accomplished along the way?

At the time I'm pretty neutral. Not really sure want to think of that yet. Always in motion is the future.

I think the difference between Game of Thrones and Star Wars is one is made for kids/young adults (that happens to be for everyone) while Game of Thrones is for adults. While it's not unusual for hands/head getting chopped off, +18 NSFW is. Yes, there was Luke and Leia kissing...but I think Lucas would have done that scene differently if he knew they were brother and sister. Star Wars has enough mature themes to keep everyone happy. It doesn't that grotesque stuff in it to be successful.

    Neutral. (today :p)

I guess I prefer my stories how ever the storytellers envision them. As an adult I don't much like the idea of art I may enjoy being censored based on some criteria designated by strangers. I favor filtering my own content (with some research if needed - you can't unsee things)

And some of these ratings systems are so arbitrary and ridiculous. The F-word used as an expletive 3 times or less can equal PG-13 but one use as a verb guarantees an R. You end up with The Kings Speech rated R just because he stutters and inspirational family dramas such as Billy Elliot and Erin Brockovich with the same R rating as gratuitously violent movies, such as Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

As for SW, I don't see the movies so far suffering from the current rating.

I imagine some of the limitations of SW films are now determined through the franchises customs and traditions as much as the rating system.
A PG-13 can even include nonsexual nudity and some expletives but I don't think the saga films need these for drama anymore than they need blood to make the violence intense!

    Redness.gif

I should say that a part of me does find the habitual violence in kids films a little worrying – probably more so than nudity (not to be conflated with sex) or expletives. (Is it odd that people would rather children see killing and dismemberment on film than someone stripping of for a swim?)

We are educated from a young age to make violence enjoyable it seems. During the two hours a night from 7-9pm when children are watching tv the most, in 75% of the programs they watch the hero either kills somebody or beats them up. Generally this happens at the climax of the program.

I guess this is part of what makes ROTJ so special - it's not very often we see the hero inspiring a villain to do good instead of just chopping him in half!

Edit: I can't stomach spelling errors!

I don't think they should, but it won't stop me from seeing it. I just worry that if things get more mature, they'll become less fun. The major examples of this for me that come to mind are Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, the Walking Dead.

All three are FANTASTIC shows* but none of them are what I'd call FUN shows. Star Wars to me has - or rather, should have - an element of fun to it. Going more mature in today's day and age usually means toning down the levity. While this is an oversimplification, there's a good reason the Teen Titans Go* show made a giant joke about this exact issue.

However, adding complexity is never a bad thing. Shows and movies can still be fun while being complex. Look at Inception, Avatar the Last Airbender (and most of The Legend of Korra), Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. All are fun and complex.

And yes, you can point to Deadpool as a counterargument, but the type of humor used in Deadpool is EXACTLY THE TYPE OF HUMOR I DO NOT WANT in Star Wars.

*I actually haven't watched Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. I'm not a fan of zombies outside of iZombie and I don't want to watch Breaking Bad. But I always hear great things about them...well, the earlier seasons for TWD, but the point still stands! Game of Thrones I watch and love, but I think it's mostly because I had just finished reading the books and found others who liked the show, so I wanted to watch it with them. Had I not read the books first, I honestly doubt I'd like the show.

*There are other reasons too though, and I don't want to ignore those either.
