Hello folks! Star Wars News Net started out as a blog only, and then as it evolved, became a "News AND chat" place for all things Star Wars.

As the base staff is as rounded as possible in all blog and forum matters, there was never enough Staff Members to be everywhere at once, and as the forum perpetually grew there became a need for a separate unit of folks to concentrate on all matters of the forum specifically.

We would like you to know your Forum Moderators! :)

Hi @Addi Ras here or James IRL I first came to SWNN as I was initially looking for somewhere that had good information TFA & then I found the Cantina & so after lurking for a couple of days & seeing how friendly the community was here I joined up & this place has become a rather large part of my life & I have made some great friends here.

A little about my life outside the Cantina well Iam a original OT guy having seen both ESB & ROTJ at my local Odeon cinema & then started getting as meny of the figures & ships as I could I still have a large proportion of that collection though none are in there packaging & most of there accessories are missing my favourites were the Death Star Gunner & TIE Pilot figures & B Wing was my favourite ship.

My loves outside Star Wars are food the more unusual the better though Seafood is a particular love & Wine & Whiskey & I have a rather nice collection amassed over the years.

As for work well at the moment Iam working in retail a couple of days a week.

Oh & I got my user name from the Secret Cinema showing of ESB I got to attend as a birthday present a couple of years ago.

    What-ho, what-ho, what-ho!

Like most everybody here, I've been a fan since childhood. I'm number 5 of a family with seven kids, so I've never gone a day without not knowing Star Wars... so that's kinda nice.
Besides my interest in our favorite far away galaxy, I am also a huge fan of the British science-fiction series Doctor Who, and many other British shows and what not. P.G Wodehouse is a huge inspiration in my life, both his novels and the shows/films based off his work.

Anyway, enough about boring entertaining things, I'm also an actor. I've been studying and performing pretty much my whole life. My first performance was at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. when I was five years old, and that love of performing has stuck with me. I've written a little as necessary, directed a wee bit, but my first love is and always will be acting. Hopefully one day you'll see me on screen!

I greatly enjoy history of all sorts: Fictional, national, Biblical, cinema... etc. etc. etc. List goes on. It's all fun and fascinating.

And that's it for now. I don't want to keep rambling and bore you to tears. Take care, and see you 'round the forums!

    Hello fellow Cantina members.

I'm going to tell you a bit about myself. My love for Star Wars started the first time I watched ANH on its second or third release in theaters. I remember being in awe of everything. Especially with Luke and the lightsabers. Just imaging as a little kid of having a "cool" weapon like that and being able to "do" things with your mind. Pretty cool power, huh? My favorite SW movie keeps going back and forth between Empire and ANH followed by ROTS. I'm also a Walking Dead fan and in sports, it's the Colts and Pacers.

I've been here in The Cantina since day one, as I was a follower of StarWars7news.com and now SWNN. I came across SWNN on the day that Disney bought Lucasfilm looking for anything about the transaction or for the upcoming movies. This site stood out among the rest for whatever reason and I've been a loyal member and follower since. I remember for the first few days back then no one ever commented on the blog and look how far it has come now. This is the BEST place to get your SW news, IMO.

That's it for me and I'll c-ya around The Cantina. MTFBWY!!

    Hello there!

Well, I gotta start by saying two years ago I didn't care as much about Star Wars. As a matter of fact I hadn't seen the OT at all - knew the basics of course but had not seen the OT movies. And same like Rey, it seemed like the Force awakened on me when a month and a half before the premiere I decided to do a Star Wars marathon and things changed. And this is what I love about the Star Wars fandom and the Cantina: we all come from different backgrounds, we might have started loving Star Wars from our childhood or just a week ago, but our love for the saga unites us.

Back then, I was so hyped I would browse any piece of info about Star Wars and found this forum. It has been such an amazing experience to speculate and engage in civilised discussions about all the aspects from the saga we all love. And from there I became a mod and also a guest contributor on SWNN - here is actually my first guest editorial on how I became a fan.

No need to say who is my favourite character of the saga - my avatar and username can easily give me away - but it was actually Rey's Halloween costume two years ago that took me into Star Wars, and been wearing it in cosplay and charity events.

I'm big into the books and comics, also love Rebels and TCW and of course the movies. I'm also a Game of Thrones fan, started back in the day as a Potterhead too and in sports, my teams are the Patriots, Real Madrid, Manchester United, the Rockets and the Astros. I'm an Engineer, but also an aspiring writer and a singer.

Welcome to this amazing community! May the Force be with you always!

Hello, folks! I'm the scotch guy.

While most of you here know me as Alamact, sometimes colloquially referred as the Rear Admiral, I suppose it was time to formally introduce myself.

My name is Chris Miller, and if there ever was a fictional universe that defined my childhood growing up, it would most certainly be Star Wars. As somewhat of a notorious forum lurker among my friends, I've never truly had a desire to actively engage with the debates and the community of internet message boards. I felt like the opinions I held were never absent in those discussions - and as a person who hates redundancy, expressing my thoughts often felt redundant and circular.

What changed? To put it bluntly: I found an avenue where I could contribute to the community in a way that was distinctive and indispensable - that avenue being the Old Republic Paint Adventures. I will not trouble you with the details here, but I would be remiss if I failed to mention how proud I was of the people that banded around it and the talented individuals that call the thread their home.

To this day, the Cantina remains the only forum I've ever had an active account on, and it is very likely this will remain so. The community here is something truly special, as trite as that statement tends to be, and when I was offered the chance to play an active role in preserving the strength of our community - I knew deep down that it was pointless to resist.

Thus, without any further pomp and circumstance, I hope you are enjoying your time on the Cantina to the utmost of your ability, and I will see you all around the boards.

My name is TK-1204, and the Cantina is my post...

    TK-421.gif

However, in the real world I go by the name of Matt. I'm currently a part-time college student with the long term goal of getting a master's degree in museum studies. I work two jobs, one at a World War II museum, and the other at a local music venue as a back-up lighting technician. I also volunteer at my church as a sound technician.

As is no doubt the case with many of you here, Star Wars has been a huge part of my life. However, I was first exposed to the wonderful world of science-fiction by my dad via his VHS tapes of Star Trek: The Original Series. It wouldn't be until the age of 5 when I would finally see Star Wars for the first time, when my parents gave me the 1997 special edition box set of the Original Trilogy for my birthday (which I still have!). If Star Trek was what first got me interested in science-fiction, then the original Star Wars trilogy was what got me hooked. And, in 1999, when I got to experience Star Wars on the big screen for the first time with Episode I: The Phantom Menace on opening day, there was no going back. I dragged my dad back to the theater to see TPM some 6 times, and we have since made it a point to see every new Star Was film on release day; a promise we've kept with every film, but the theatrical Clone Wars film released in 2008. My love for the franchise would only grow when, in my teenage years, my dad first exposed me to the Expanded Universe, or EU, by letting me read his copies of the ever famous Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.

As some of you might have been able to tell, I've taken a fondness to the franchise's iconic, white armor-clad symbol of Imperial might (whose aim is oh so very precise!). There are, perhaps, a great number of reasons for my childhood fascination with the faceless villains of the original films, but if I had to choose what it was that first sparked my interest in the Stormtrooper, I imagine it was a thought that went something like, "WOW! THAT ARMOR LOOKS SO COOL!" That interest in the "dudes-with-cool-armor" would only be further stoked by my dad who, as both an avid fan of science-fiction and military history, also took an interest. This interest in the "bucket-head" and the Imperial military in general continued to follow me and expand throughout my life, and is what would help nurture a greater interest in real-world military history in later years.

Before there was the Cantina, there was StarWars7News.com, a site I would soon become very familiar with when the news of the Lucas Film buyout became public, and a brand new Star Wars trilogy was announced. I found myself checking the website almost daily, and would share any news with friends the instant I read it. When the Cantina forums were finally created, I lurked for a little while before finally creating my account, and I am oh so happy I did! What I've discovered here is one of the best communities I've ever had the pleasure to be a part of.

Well, that's it for me. I hope you enjoy your stay here at the Cantina, and remember: Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side!

Greetings Programs! …oh, hang on – wrong franchise

Having joined The Cantina in the run up to the release of TFA, I quickly became a regular visitor having found such a great group of like-minded franchise geeks and worked on establishing myself as the friendly, neighbourhood Scout Trooper of the boards. I’m fortunate enough to be able to be part of the Mod team, both here on the boards and on the SWNN and MNN blog sites, helping to maintain the fair and friendly standards that the sites have rightly earned.

As with many here, I was lured to A Galaxy Far, Far Away as a youngling and pretty much defined my ongoing love affair with all things sci-fi and fantasy – to the moderate dismay of Mrs Lazarus who only just tolerates my continued amassing of geek ‘stuff’ and the emerging effect it is having on our two daughters :D.

As a result of my passion for the ‘Wars, I ended up taking a degree in film and photography, specialising in writing, production design and editing and have worked on a couple of well known productions. I’ve also written several short stories and even managed to successfully get a piece published many moons ago.

Alongside the obvious movie and TV interests, I’m also a gamer (Xbox/PC), a big music fan – frequently found at gigs and browsing record stores and a bit (ok a lot!) of a car and motor-sports bore, always enjoying a well styled machine and the sound of a good engine.

IRL the ‘man behind the mask’ is Jon, based on the south coast in the UK and working in air traffic management.

in keeping with the recent theme of kicking off with the appropriately related stormtrooper picture, i'm @FN-3263827 (named so because, as i have mentioned elsewhere in the past, i am total trash for Star Wars).

i've been a Star Wars fan for over 40 years (since the very beginning), though i might have taken a wee break in 2005. that said, i believe that there is something for everybody in the franchise and no requirement to like, see, read, or engage with all of it. what i don't like, i know other people love and that's all that matters.

outside of my avatar here i am a faculty head librarian who lives a very luddite life in a graystone city house built in 1890, surrounded by old books and antiques. i am neither a fan of science fiction nor fantasy--just good-hearted storytelling, to which Star Wars has always aspired. my only other mainstream fandom love is Batman (if you think keeping up with 40+ years of Star Wars lore is hard, try 80+!). in a previous life, i was a writer and producer of anime, i published books, comics, and short fiction, taught both creative and technical writing, and wrote plays for the theatre. more recently i was a comic book reviewer and moderator for one of the most popular Batman news sites, but quit that gig a few weeks ago as it was really cutting into my Star Wars time. XD

i am very honored to be a member of the 1030th Cantina mods here and at SWNN, and am humbled by the amazing and generous friends i have made from all over the world. this is a fandom full of Light: love each other, love Star Wars, and treat yourselves to pie. : D

    Hello Cantina

I have been a huge Scifi/Horror movie fan since I was about 6 years old. I grew up in the 80's and spent plenty of time running outside make really bad lightsaber sounds with my buddies. Peww PEWWW I got you no you didn't because I blocked it cause no stormtrooper can hit a Jedi.
Between Star Trek, Dune and Star Wars my love of insane space adventures has only grown.

I live out in Montana, love the outdoors and camping I am also a cancer. I love big starry skies and puppies. ;) (Dating Game Moment)
I have a great love of books and spend way to much time looking up new music. I am the king of random.

I am came to the Cantina a couple years ago and have enjoyed almost every moment of it. This place has really taken something I was a fan of and changed it to something I love. This place is truly great and the friends I have made here are even better. I have also developed a really odd love for pie.
I do truly you hope you enjoy your time here.

    Hey all! :)

So, completely out of the blue I was, together with my pet dawg @Anubis78, invited to join the mods, [insert 60's counter culture joke here]. It’s a great honor and very educational, but of course the whip crackers now force me to do some actual work, beginning with an introduction. Luckily, I like to rant so this one is rather easy. (Warning: Looooooooooong post!)

I’m a Norwegian geek, rocker, author, and museum attendant (i.e. an adult refusing to adult), and I’ve been a massive fan of SW since September 24th 1984. I know the exact date because, living in Norway we had a single TV station (not unlike BBC back in the day) those days and every Monday they showed a random family film in the evening (and yes, I totally went and dug through the TV station archives to find the date they aired this…). I was 7, going on 8, and on this night I watched A New Hope with my father and sisters (my mother was probably working late at the restaurant where she worked). We got movies super late in Norway in the 80s, and it would take years and years before they came to TV. In any case, I lasted until the trash compactor scene, which freaked me out so much I couldn’t watch the rest, except… I did watch the rest by glancing at the TV reflection in the window behind our sofa; so, I listen to the rest of the movie and watched a poor quality version off of the window, which for some reason I could handle. With that, I was hooked! I spent the next day fighting make-belief Stormtroopers behind our house, and remember vividly (which says something as my memory is utterly garbage usually) that I kicked a large cardboard box around, pretending it was a Stormie or something.

From there, I’ve been a lifelong SW geek. I used to read the letters & news section of the Norwegian translation of the Marvel SW comics, delighted to see there were plans for more movies after RotJ, but of course that never came to pass (I mean, until 16 years later!). In the 90s, I found a new outlet for my SW obsession with West End Game’s Star Wars the Roleplaying Game, which me and my friends spent thousands of hours playing (<--no exaggeration). I was at college when news about TPM started to come in, and I remember it taking forever to download the TPM trailer over the college’s internet connection. Fun times! (Incidentally, the TPM trailer is one of my favorite, and the TV spots were awesome! There’s a reason why my avatar here is an early concept art piece for Darth Maul… “Fear. Fear attracts the fearful, the strong, the weak, the innocent, the corrupt. … Fear is my ally.”).

I enjoyed TPM when it came out, realizing that some parts of it weren’t made for me, but overall I liked it. I was confused and annoyed by AotC, however, ‘cause I was convinced that Qui-Gon was Palpatine’s behind the scenes lackey who would bring about the clone army. (I mean, have you ever considered how bumblingly incompetent Qui-Gon is in that movie? I was certain that this was intentional, a setup for his reveal as a tragic pawn in later movies, possibly a la the traitor in Dune whose name shall not be uttered since there’s a new movie coming out next year). Following AotC, I found RotS disappointing and unfulfilling, especially Anakin’s fall which everything had been leading up to, although I must admit that I have a somewhat higher opinion of that movie today.

Like everyone, I dreamt of more live-action SW post RotS, and the SW: Underworld project intrigued me greatly. Sadly, that was not to come to pass… But then Disney bought the IP and, a little later, gave us all this amazing new SW content that we have today, and can look forward to in the future, and I couldn’t be happier :) There was, I think, a real danger of SW going away after the OT, and again after the PT, but now that ain’t ever gonna happen!

I got onto the Cantina in December 2014, scouting around hungrily for information on TFA, and I have never looked back since. This is truly an amazing place!

So yeah, I’ve ranted a bit about Star Wars now, haven’t I? Let’s see if there’s more to say about me, myself, & I…

I’m a Scientist of Religions (=very weird term in English – the German Religionwissenschaftler being far superior – and I sort of wish that “religionologist” was an accepted noun) and a historian by education. My principle fields are Ancient Religions (especially Egyptian) and early modern Western occultism (i.e. 19th and early 20th century UK, mostly). I have a deep fascination for the Mediterranean/European/Near Eastern Bronze Age and am currently writing a series of fantasy novels taking place in such a place. Other than that, I discovered by accident that I could sing at the age of 34 and started a rock band that are still struggling to get heard, heh heh. So yeah, I got into music at least 20 years too late to make a career of it; oh well.

What else? Hm… I’m a huge fan of David Bowie, with my handle – Angelman – stolen from a line in one of his songs (“And the rain sets in; It’s the Angelman; I’m deranged” <-- for some reason, that line just speaks to me…). Other than him, I’m also hugely into Iggy Pop, Nick Cave & the Bad Sees, and Tom Waits. I also really like Foo Fighters although I have yet to click with their music, for some reason (probably because I’m too old to find new music, and FF are “new” to me), but they sure are cute and seem very warm and kind :D I’m also a pen-and-paper RPG player and writer, having contributed significantly to the Fading Suns RPG franchise in the past (and am currently on the writing team for the new version supposedly being released in 2020 *fingers crossed*).

    What else?
Favorite Book: Dune, followed by Dune Messiah
Favorite Star Wars: The Last Jedi, followed by Empire Strikes Back
Favorite non-SW film: Alien, followed by Blade Runner
Favorite TV show: Chernobyl, followed by True Detective.
    Favorite color: Anything earthy.
    Favorite pet: @Anubis78

    Ok, I’m reaching now… I think I shall stop.

So, here I am, ready to help out around the Cantina. Feel free to PM or profile post me if you like :) Now, let’s continue making the Cantina the best SW community out there! You folks are the best :D

Heya, am I supposed to write here?

It's me Meister Yoda, some may still know me as Ridcully. I was born and still live in Germany (as you actually would already know because of my great sense of humor).
I'm a long-time fan of the OT and was really thrilled when the PT war released, that wasn't enough to kill my joy of Star Wars neither was the ST that I actually more or less enjoyed.
It's an honour to be allowed to join the 1030th despite being a fan of Star Trek too.
Probably there is way more to write, but you'll find out anyway.
Be assured you will come to know me over the time...

Well. This for me is FAR overdue.

Hello people. I'm Bret A.K.A. Lord Phanatic. The "Lord" in my name derives from my love for sith lords, Lord Vader in particular.
In 2015 I was on fire with excitement and anticipation for the arrival of TFA. When I began scouring the web for any info I could find about the production or rumors concerning the movie, the force led me to SWNN at that time known as starwars7news.com. Like @Addi Ras I began lurking. I lurked the main blog for a week or two when one day I noticed The Cantina at the top of the page. Once I clicked on it, I never looked back. The Cantina was and is a star wars forum with such a beautiful vibe and sense of community that I immediately gravitated to it to the point of this place becoming very personal. I became defensive about it towards members who chose to be trolls rather than just take part in the fun. I guess it was that attitude that led to me being invited to become a Mod as at that time @Viral Hide was forming a new team of Mods to deal with the influx of new members. Those we're some really crazy fun days!!! It still amazes me how fast these years have gone by. I guess time flies when your having fun!

My first real taste of the star wars magic was one day, when I was a kid at a movie theater on a field trip with my classmates. I don't remember what we went to see but I do remember the preview for TESB. I was blown away. That scene when Vader jumps out of the shadows at Luke during their duel on Cloud City had my mouth wide open.I loved how Vader was so powerfully relentless in his attack on Luke and Luke was barely clinging to survival yet Luke was the good guy. I've always rooted for the villains. At that moment I became a hardcore life long star wars fan and to this day, TESB is my favorite of all star wars movies with RO coming in at a close second. I became an empire child in a matter of two to three minutes.

I'm not the biggest fan of the ST. At the same time I'm also not a ST basher. I wanted to see much more become of TKOR. I guess we can't have it all. I used to play hours and hours of reaction videos of TROS preview on YouTube. That moment when Palpatine laughs was an incredible sense of nostalgic euphoria! Then The Mandalorian came along (Ahsoka! Luke!) and many of the voids that the ST left we're filled.

One thing that I actually enjoyed and still do to this day, more than the ST itself, is being a member of this community. We we're very lucky to even see a new trilogy come into fruition and we have so much to look forward to still! I'm in high anticipation of The Obi - Wan series! I can't wait! It's going to be awesome!

    A bit late with this...

Hi everyone! I'm MandoChip- Mando because I love Mandalorians (who doesn't?) and "Chip" being a daft nickname I've had since high-school.

My earliest memory of Star Wars is being 6 years old watching The Phantom Menace, i remember being scared by Darth Maul but couldn't get over how cool he looked, which is probably why I've loved Sith/darksiders ever since. "growing up" with the Prequels I fell in love with that universe and was just the right age to experience the golden age of SW videogames in the days of LucasArts, along with some great (and not so great) books from the Expanded Universe and later The Clone Wars animated series which to this day is my favourite part of Star Wars.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm, TCW was cancelled, the EU was abandoned and I was upset about the whole thing, which coinciding with some big changes in my personal life Ied to me almost forgetting about Star Wars for a few years.

Jump to 2015, a friend showed me the The Force Awakens trailer and gradually got me excited about Star Wars again, which was nice! I actually ended up disliking TFA and the ST as a whole, but in that time Rogue One became one of my favourites along with Rebels and more recently The Mandalorian...however what I'm most greatful for is being introduced to this amazing community where I was welcomed with open arms.

What kept me coming back wasn't my interest in Star Wars, but the great people here with a diversity of personalities and opinions; which is something I'm all about, I felt like I found a sort of niche and just a good place to talk and have a laugh. I don't even have a big social media presence, which is testament to how much I love the cantina.

Last year, I was kindly invited to become a member of the 1030th by @Stormagadon, which I gladly accepted and found that it only increased my enjoyment, I've learned a lot and seen just how much work and skill goes into running the site, the cantina is in great hands!

    - MC ;)

    Good Morning everyone,

I've been a fan of Star Wars ever since I saw the ANH trailer on television. I instinctively knew I had to see this film. It was the first film I asked my mother to see which was exciting for her as well. She took my best friend and I to the local drive-in theatre. It was a wonderful experience and I have been a sci-fi fan ever since.
When the internet super highway was conceived I went to my local library to experience it and of course I searched for Star Wars.

I became a member of the Force.net but that place never felt like home, I remember the fierce Basher and Gusher wars that occurred there when the prequel films were released. I've alway remained civil and of course I was Gusher to all things Star Wars but on one particular occasion I slipped and had to express my true feelings and I was instinctively banned. I became a member of other Star Wars fan sites and finally came upon SWNN. I lurked for almost a year before finally joining and I haven't looked back ever since. This place is home to all those that share a special interest in Star Wars no matter how you came upon this wonderful fandom.

Whenever I come to the SWNN forums it sort of feels like this:

Outside of this wonderful place, I've worked as a Correction Officer for 15 years walking the mean streets and corridors of New York City's most notorious Jail system Rikers Island. I won't get into all the horror stories I've experienced there all I'll say is I've got 5 years left until I retire and I hope my tenure there ends on a high note.

My hobbies include drawing, painting, fine scale model building, and writing short stories. I self published 2 comic books which I am very proud of and I hope to continue self publishing when I retire. I am huge martial arts fan, I study Judo, MMA, Wing- Chung kung-fu, Kali/Eskima, Staff fighting, Brazilian Jui-Jitsu, Historical European Martial Arts, African Martial Arts (mostly because of my dangerous career), archery, and bike riding.

I've entered a new chapter in this wonderful community I hope every member enjoys their time here and I hope to assist in that endeavor as much as I can!

    @Rogues1138
