    So, I’ve been hearing rumors about this for months, so I would take this with a grain of salt because it’s not legit unless it comes from Lucasfilm. That being said, a few websites have reported on this:
    To me, it seems like a lot of this has come from the petition rather than facts, but if Meryl were to replace Carrie, how would you feel about it? Personally, I see it as the one role Meryl absolutely cannot fill because that was Carrie’s and Carrie’s alone, but that’s just me.

    Imma say no because Carrie IS Leia, but if Leia had to be recast then I guess this is a pretty good choice.

    I will accept recasting if the story demands it, but I'm not sure if Streep is a good choice. Might be too recognisable, people would have a hard time buying her as Leia. Overall, I think J.J. will write around her.

    I am in the camp for recasting if the story demands it. But I can't find anything credible to even really call this a rumor.

    Meryl Streep is a "dirtbag" that has ZERO credibility and would cheapen Star Wars directly into a second-hand store. Just say "No".

    Um.....what???? You realize she's been nominated for 21 Academy Awards and won three. Saying no to recasting Leia is one thing. Saying Streep has zero credibility is just plain ignorant.

    You know...Meryl Streep, that will take every opportunity to promote "Meryl Streep" for Oscar nominations, that will take every opportunity to soapbox for her personal political crusade, and well, you know....make Gods out of the likes of Hollywood predators...and ignore the "Predator" fact in the process while she's being oh-so-holy. I'd rather not have that baggage weigh down Star Wars. That's just me...or were you thinking of a DIFFERENT "Meryl Streep"???

    I say no way, Meryl Streep is a great actress, but Carrie Fisher was/is Princess Leia and noone else.

    If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck....oh, but wait.....I see...you ALSO ignore the fact that she called people like Weinstein "A God" when she knew the entire time what he was and hold her to no specific moral standard??     I have no feelings towards Meryl Streep as a person. I don't know her nor do I care about her. If you're looking for credibility as an actor, you can't get much better. All that other stuff...if anyone is looking to Hollywood for heroes with high morals...you best look elsewhere...such as the real heroes of high morals.

    "All that other stuff" (as you put it), plops her credibility as a human being directly in a dumpster in my book, but if you can look past the fact that she's as good at faking her morals as she is at acting...more power to ya'. The REAL "stuff" is what matters to some people...character...moral standards, that kind of "stuff".

    You do realize she blasted Weinstein for quoting her in his deposition? It doesn't take more than 5 seconds to Google it. Weinstein's lawyer apologized for using her. That's good enough for me. Sounds like you've had it out for her even before Weinstein. Find love in your heart. It's better than the darkness where you sit.

    Please....I never even really took note of her until the last few years, when it was reported that she apparently petitioned the Academy for an Oscar nomination 2 (or so) years ago, and I thought..."REALLY, Meryl...how important are YOU??"

    Then there have been the political soapboxing at the Oscars....NEXT!!

    Then Weinstein...and how she acted SO SHOCKED when he got outed. She knew damned good and well who and what he was the entire time...and acted shocked, somehow I wasn't surprised.

    I will judge her on her humanly merits as opposed to how well she can pretend to be someone else for money. try that.

    Sounds like you have no idea how much petitioning goes around for Oscar nominations and political soapboxing (George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio anyone?). You're just using conjecture that she acted SO SHOCKED. We get it dude. You don't like her because of the political soap-boxing. Whatever. Try love. It's much better.
