    Leia is only replaceable if much younger in a different movie. Meryl Streep would infuriate me. Off screen death, opening scroll mentions it, that's it. I would feel better about a no name actress wearing bandages to cover burns suffered between 8 and 9 than Meryl friggin Streep. It's an insult to Carrie Fisher and to all of us

    I’ve spoken at length with people here before that Carrie’s sudden passing put Lucasfilm in a very difficult position when it comes to their treatment of Leia, and that I - like many others here - would support them regardless of their decision, as I think that, ultimately, they will do what is right by the character AND what is right by Carrie.

    That being said...I genuinely don’t believe a word of this.

    Meryl Streep is an excellent actress, but I think that replacing Carrie in any way - be it through CGI or a recasting - is arguably the most disrespectful route for Lucasfilm to go down. I know that I’ve spoken at length before with many of you about ways that they could make Leia a catalyst of a number of events in IX which would progress other character’s arcs further, whilst remaining respectful of Carrie’s legacy with Leia’s absence.

    But, regardless of my opinion on replacing Carrie and whether it’s a good idea or not, what strikes me most is that we’re just over four months from principal photography for IX. This seems incredibly late to be hearing about this, considering that J.J. was pitching his script back in mid-December, and any plans to recast Leia would have likely been put in place prior to then.

    For the love of God please no. Carrie is Leia and Leia is Carrie. No. Just don't. Make Lt. Connix the leader of the Resistance so her legacy plays out through her daughter. IMO that's the best way to continue this. You can write it so that her impact is still felt. Perhaps she devised a plan to take down the FO once and for all before she died. Then the movie is about the Resistance doing it for her in her honor. Therefore she doesn't have to be there but she's still integral to the events of what happens.

    Unfortuntaely. But yeah. In regards to Meryl replacing Carrie, although there there is a holdback from her estate and the fans, the fact of the matter is that the company owns her likeness as "LEIA" so they can do as they want as long as they do not recreate Carrie herself...it's kind of hard to explain if you do not understand it

    Not sure about this.
    Maybe Leia will go to another place far away from the Resistance, another mission, trying to convence some allies to figth against the First Order (that could be explained in the crawl). And we will only see her at the end, for a few seconds, speaking with Rey, Poe or others characters as a hologram. It will be easier for the CGI departmeent. Also it will be nice as a goodbye for us fans.
