    When I first heard the name of this movie I assumed it was about Rogue Squadron, as I figure everyone else did. The stuff we've received regarding it lately makes them look more like spies than fighter pilots. I'm less excited the more I know. What do others think? Am I reading too much into it?

    Are you suggesting that the movie will be a disappointment for you if it's not about Rogue Squadron? I ask because this is a story that takes place before A New Hope, and while I admit that I don't know my EU at all, Rogue Squadron exists later on in the OT timeline, right? I believe the first we hear of it is in ESB, in fact. If I'm right about that, then this movie most certainly won't be about Rogue Squadron, though it might show its origins.

    With all of these new movies, there's a real risk in saying "if it's not BLANK, then I won't like it!" Truth is that it could be about something else - something entirely new - that is remarkable. We have to give things a chance!

    Not saying that's what you're doing, but I got on a soapbox. Personally, I'm very interested in Rogue One. The more I hear, the more I want to know. Not a lot of info out there yet.

    This movie can't not be an origin for Rogue Squadron. And since X-Wings were spotted on set, there will probably be an element of that.

    No, I'm not saying
    Its not that I think Rogue Squadron should be in existence prior to Luke Joining the Rebels, its that with a name like Rogue One, I figured it would be about Rogue Squadron at any point in the timeline. At that point I had no idea it was going to be set just prior to 4. Like I said, if the movie is good that is fine, I just think its odd and at first was a little disappointing that this is looking less and less like a fighter pilot movie.

    It definitely led folks to believe, at least initially, that it was about fighter pilots. How could it not?

    That said, I'm looking forward to it regardless. I dig what little we've seen of it so far, and I think it has a lot of potential.

    We shall see!
