every time I go see TFA something new sticks out to me. this latest viewing had me noticing the anguished look on Han's face when Rey mentions the name "Luke Skywalker".

it occurred to me that there's probably bad blood between them. Han sent his only son to Luke, who lost control of him. now his son is a monster and Luke is missing. Han lost his family and his best friend.

not to mention Han is probably as mad at himself as he is at Luke.

now he's dead. do you think they will be able to have some kind of closure? is part of the anguish in Luke's own eyes at the end of TFA because he knows he's lost his best friend too?

as they say: oh the feels, yeah?

i'm guessing no. not with that look that comes over Han's face.
besides which Luke's been missing since Ben went kablooie, so i doubt they would have ever had a chance.

Definitely. I don't think it's simply anger or resentment, and those are certainly not the baseline for that reaction. Han has pretty much been alone for what, ten years with Chewie? He gives the look of someone who is hurting for multiple reasons, not simply being angry with Luke.
Luke and Leia are without a doubt, some of Han's closest friends, and he doesn't blame the fall of Ben to be on anyone else. Basically, the friendships died when they all lost Ben. That is the look he gives Rey and Finn. The look of everything...

man...first i thought about how Ben was Han's tragedy, then Leia's, and now Luke's too. yes...they are bound by this. it's so incredibly sad.

and all the more reason it needs to be rectified!

I really wish it had been Leia. Carrie Fisher is great but her death could have given you the same drama without quite as many loose ends and still leaving one of the most beloved characters in cinema history in the franchise.

weirdly, i can see Leia forgiving Ben for Han's death. i think Han would have had a harder time forgiving him for Leia's.

it's interesting that we don't have any clue what Ben's relationship with his mother is.

i think we'd have had just as many loose ends, frankly. Harrison Ford wanted to die and he got a great death. and we get to watch this greek tragedy play out.

I really hope Han's death will carry more weight than Obi-Wan's ever did. Han and Leia didn't show much grief over him, and Luke knew him through the Force. But with Han, someone the older characters all know, I want to see the remorse from Luke that he didn't get the chance to reconcile with Han, and see Leia's resentment at Luke for not being there when Han died, either to prevent it or to help her.
I want to cry more watching VIII than I did watching TFA!

Agreed - I just can't help but notice that there was a lot of gas in the tank for Solo, and there didn't seem to be quite as much for Leia.

hahaha ~ i don't think i could stand it. i'm having a hard enough time with this one.

i'm all in for a mother-son reunion at the end of viii or early on in ix with not a dry eye in the house though. i totally believe Adam Driver could bring it.

I think on paper Han's death made the most sense - but watching them on screen I would think Leia's would have been a better choice.

    Haha, me too!

That's why I want Kylo to be redeemed. I'd like to see it in VIII, and see the consequences of that, but I also want to see something real like that in Star Wars.

Why do you think Leia's death would have made more sense?

I think she being dead would have been better because she didn't have any sort of arc to do as ROTJ pretty much completed her "on-screen" arc .

She just didn't have "it" the same way Han still did. This was Harrison's Ford's best movie since Empire Strikes Back.
