GAME Movie Draft Selection Thread

With the 35th pick in the 2021 Star Wars Movie draft... The Studio With No Name selects... Thomas Newman, composer, Los Angeles, California.

Composer was a hard one for me to pick, I went back and forth with a few names. I was originally going to go with someone already under the Star Wars blanket but I've already done that with cinematography and I don't wanna do that too many times. I also didn't want to pick one of the many Williams clones who do what he did with far less success. Ultimately I decided on Thomas Newman, the main reason being his versatility.







With the 36th pick in the 2021 Star Wars Movie draft... The Studio With No Name selects... Gillian Flynn, writer, Kansas City, Missouri.

As soon as I chose Steve McQueen to be my director, I knew I was going to hire Gillian to co-write the film with him. They've collaborated before on the 2018 film "Widows". Gillian also wrote the screenplay for "Gone Girl" (as well as the novel the film is based on) and a number of episodes for the HBO series "Sharp Objects" (also based on a novel she wrote). She thrives in the mystery/thriller genres.

Sorry folks, doing some thinking on this one. Getting down to the wire and have to prioritize picks.

My next pick will be Hans Zimmer, Composer. One of my fave composers out there, I have always thought he deserves a shot at a SW movie!

With my 6th pick in the draft I will be selecting... (Actor)

Idris Elba !

To me this man just fits the role of a bruised and battered Jedi so so well. He is known for many roles such as his roles in Thor, Hobbs and Shaw, Jungle Book, No Good deed, and many more! He is one of the first choices my mind went to when brainstorming for this movie. Well that closes out my first 6 picks!

Actor: Naveen Andrews


Why?
Naveen brings a lot of dramatically intense weight to a role, but is also capable of being soft and even light hearted.
But when you need teeth gnashing, Naveen becomes very valuable.
His ability to play earnest devotion and seriousness softly with considerable weight to the smallest of words marries cinema's "show me instead of tell me" bias.

Ultimately, whatever the emotion, Naveen is intense in delivering it.

Actor: Téa Leoni


Why?
Far more known than any other of the actors I have picked, but still alien as it could be from Star Wars.
Leoni brings an incredible range of flexible articulation in emotion and relationships to any project.
Further, she's quite capable of jumping into the action and getting dirty as needed.

She's all around solid and its also great for the older generations to have a relationship with an older character in a story who isn't sidelined to shuffling their feet around softly - Leoni is quite capable of playing an adventurous older character who doesn't feel drug down by age, but enriched by it.

All of the younger generations will inherently flock to Star Wars for cute things, big flashing bangs, dark villains, and bright eyed heroes, but the older generations deserve a bit of a buffering off of the old "crazy wizard" with a slight upgrade towards adventurousness and vitality.

Michael Giachino!

I guarantee you that you’ve seen and loved lots of movies that have been scored by Michael Giachino. As an Oscar winner, he is probably the best “hero score” writer today writing the likes of the music of, Rogue One, Both MCU Spider-Man Movies, both Jurassic worlds, JoJo Rabbit, both incredibles, the new planet of the apes movies, Coco, Doctor Strange, zootopia, The upcoming Batman movie, even the mission impossible movies. This man is a machine and a real powerhouse for my project!
