Movie on Palpatine and Plagueis ?

That does seem intriguing!
Especially if Snoke does actually turn out to be Plagueis, I think that people are going to want more than just the cryptic fairy-tales of Palpatine to fill in that backstory. I'm not 100% positive that they wouldn't go with a novel or some other EU method as opposed to a full film, but I'd go see it!

 

Could we see a darth sidious stand alone film?

Oh man. I never thought about it before but that would be amazing to see a movie about how the Sith master/apprentice relationship works with him and Plagueis.

 

I totally agree. I think it would make a pretty awesome movie, if done right. It could be what 'Lords of the Sith' wasn't. I wonder about its broader appeal, though.

 

It could go deep into his teenage life before he met plagueis.

I too think a Palpatine and Plagueis movie could be really cool, but without a heroic character to root for, I'm not sure Disney would be very enthusiastic about the idea.

This would be a very cool idea. Maybe it could follow Sheev when he was secretly obtaining an apprentice on his own, (Darth Maul). Although the Jedi will always reign superior in my opinion, seeing a Dark Side prominent movie would be a nice change.

 

A Plagueis/Sheev movie could also be about Dooku and Qui-Gon.

 

I don't think you need a heroic character for a movie to be good. I think the key is to get the audience to respect the characters despite disagreeing with their ideas and actions. Since they announced the spin offs I was hoping for a Darth Bane story. Not a character you "root" for in the traditional sense but someone you come along a journey with. In that mindset a Sidious and Plagueis movie could work fairly well. Although, I could also get behind a younger Dooku and Qui-Gon film. Seeing their motivations develop over time would be quite the treat as well. Good call on that one.

 

My 10 year old son and I were just talking about this today. Having a movie that shows the evolution of Palpatine becoming a Sith would be fantastic. They can throw out the novel stuff - don't really care about it - and come up with a really interesting story. If you go into it knowing that it's basically the tale of the main character becoming truly evil - I don't think anyone would be that put off. And to be honest - if they went lower budget, less effects, more personal journey type story - it could still be wildly profitable.

 

How low ?

 

I don't know - $75 million or so. Doesn't have to be a crazy big budget thing. You'd keep the action to one or two planets - with practical sets. Have a bit of space travel. Some lightsaber work.

It's not about big battles, fancy effects - it's about the interactions between a young man and the "master" who seduces him.

I'd like the anthology films to spread their wings a bit and go to places that "big blockbusters" won't or cannot. The Star Wars universe is vast, deep, and mostly unexplored. Hell, a feature length version of the dude left on Hoth fan flick that just came out with some more professional effects and a more fleshed out plot would be worth my $10 at the cinema!

 

I'd say, realistically, $125 MIL before the or and marketing kick in. That was the average budget of each othe thefilma in The PT. TFA was roughly double that apparently .

 

You got my vote on a Palpatine Movie.

But Plagueis is something from the movies we don't speak, so that idea might get axed on the starting blocks. It could be a very good thing if the SW Fans forget about Darth Plagueis for a while, keep him in the legends stuff, and enjoy the SW stories happening now.
