SPECULATION Movie Title "The Last Jedi" could have been "Luke Skywalker"?

    It is well established that Luke Skywalker is and was "The Last Jedi". Would it be the same movie had they just called it "Luke Skywalker"?

    Yoda: The last of the Jedi will you be.

    So Luke's line in TLJ trailer could just as easily be "I" must end.

    How will Luke change the Jedi Code for the "New Jedi" for Rey?

    He won't.

    He might be reluctant after so great a loss but he will slowly turn it around and the Jedi will continue or be reborn with Rey.

    If they've already chosen this title, it should have been "The Last of the Jedi" imo, to nod Yoda from ROTJ.

    Besides that fact that no SW movie before TLJ was named after a main character, this title is a good choice because it allows for some mystery. Luke being the last Jedi - with the story focusing on him - seems like the most obvious thing in the world. Which is why he might not be the last Jedi. Either that or he will be, but the story will not focus on him. The latter is more likely, it's hard to believe that the audience would be introduced to new characters in TFA only to go back and focus on Luke in the second installment.

    I don't know how Luke will change the code for Rey, I don't know if he'll even want to do that. The line "the Jedi must end" sounds quite disturbing coming from a legendary Jedi, it makes it seem like he despises everything the Jedi stand for. Who knows what he's thinking or planning to do. If he even says that line. The voice in the trailer might not belong to him at all.

    The New Hope was Luke. The Jedi who Returned was Luke. The Phantom Menace was the Sith. I guess 2 Sith got Revenge in ROTS.

    Yes, but what about ESB and AOTC? The Empire does strike back (and there's only one empire so who else can "strike" with that name) but the clones don't exactly attack. The situation is pretty confusing there. TLJ is their equivalent in this trilogy.

    Anakin "Returned" in ROTJ. Just saying. Before Anakin died, there were two Jedi on the death star.

    True but I was responding to "no titles" named for the main characters.

    True. But its was Luke that made the declaration and whose action culminated in the return.

    Johnson and Mark have said that line is him, although with the word end their is a tonal shift.

    Context matters, but I can't see either a grand Jedi code shift or a grand Jedi ending. That's what's hard here I guess.

    I don't see it either. 6 films have hinged on Anakin Skywalker. Prophecised balance bringer to the Force. If the Saga is a cycle (which I think that there is a case for), they we have seen. Anakin the Destroyer, Luke the Redeemer and are waiting to see how Rey will bring rebirth.
