Film is fun, not epic, but important to the overall SW story in neat ways.

    Chewy stole the show.

L3 and the music didn’t connect as well as they could’ve.

This is a fun film, with lots (!) of easter eggs, visually and spoken. Colo claw fish anyone? :p

The film did a good job at showing there's a whole galaxy out there, beyond Jedi/Sith and a fight against the Empire. I'm hoping the next standalone will further this even more.

Some thoughts, which I will behind a spoiler tag, just in case:

    1. As another user remarked, at times it totally sounded like they used BDW soundbites in there. That, or Donald Glover has really studied the OT. However, and this goes for other characters too, there's still a lot of room for him to progress into the character we meet in ESB.

    2. There are some (convenient) time jumps, especially regarding Han's time in the Empire. I see a novel or comic series in the distant future..

    3. Same goes for Qi-Ra, we don't know exactly what happened with her or why she makes some of her decisions. Again, I think this was intentional.

    4. Han's dice (hehe) were featured quite a bit, but after other media commenting on Han winning the Falcon because of those dice, there's no mention here. Minor "issue" at best though.

    5. Chewie was awesome. I'm really hoping someday we're gonna visit Kashyyk again, this time properly (not near a lagoon, but full on Wroshyr style).

    6. Corellia, Coronet, Mimban. Finally seeing this makes a fanboy's knees go wobbly. Also the mentioning of other places makes it one big galaxy, without going the full "everything has to connect" route.

I'm gonna see it again ASAP, I'm a long way from being done thinking about this film and the possibilities it has for future SW films.

However, I do think some character motivations could've been handled differently:
Beckett didn't take long to get over losing Val. I mean, they had quite some plans together, but he's pretty quick in accepting the situation and moving on.
This happens in the other films too, like Luke after losing Obi-Wan.

Qi'ra. She definetly is a badass and knows her stuff, but what is her goal? Again, I think this is intentional.

And Han. At a time, I expected this film to end up on Tatooine (maybe even using some of that Tarkin CGI), meaning the film would end where ANH would begin. Han being the shoot first type of dude, choosing himself over others. However, in this film there are a couple of instances he already chooses the greater good over making a quick buck. I think that diminishes his arc.

Anyhoo, after seeing this film I certainly wouldn't mind a Solo part 2 !

This film has a scene that is unseen and first entry in history of science fiction.

Just this is already worth of record in the archives.

A gigantic life form dwells in the Kessel, on the perimeter of the Black hole, and what happens then is.....holly Hawking this is the first entry in history of science fiction.

I think the film is ok. I've seen it twice. It goes down easy. There are a couple of eye rolling bits like giving us the origin of han's name which we didn't need.

One of two things I would of done differently, both of which I think would of had less negative fan backlash:

    1)
    - have made it a Lando - centric movie. We know nothing about Lando. They could of done anything and it wouldn't stomp all over anything in the OT. I would of reduced Han to a cameo and shown him in an antagonistic light, winning the falcon from Lando. With such a small scene they could of even used Harrison Ford and used the de-aging tech. Kurt Russel in Guardians of the Galaxy and Rodney Downey Jr. both looked great.

    2)
    - You could of also kept 92% of the existing movie and made these few tweaks and had it be a 100% original Star Wars story adventure:

    - Switch out Han for Dash Rendar
    - Replace the Falcon with the Outrider
    - Replace Chewie with the Nautolan Eadan Vrill
    - Replace L3 with Leebo LE-BO2D9
    - replace Dryden Vos with Prince Xizor
    - replace mention of Crimson Dawn with Black Sun
    - keep the Kessel run set piece as-is just call it a different system

all stuff sanctioned and approved originally by Lucas and you might even get the fans who currently feel betrayed back on board.

    Just my opinion.
