I have to disagree. I can remember walking out of the theater in 1977 humming the theme. I've seen Rogue One three times now and can't remember a single note from the soundtrack. One was memorable and epic, the other, not! Simple comparison.

I really liked the score, especially the fanfare that played during the title card, and the BGM during Vader's scene.

Can someone tell me where, outside the Guardians of the Whills Suite, are there vocals incorporated in the soundtrack? And do you think Giacchino used sanskrit like Williams? Who knows when Star Wars Oxygen is going to tackle this - they just started.

First of all, great post. Seeing those three talk to each other this way on Twitter is priceless.

First place I would have thought of for choir vocals in R1 soundtrack is "Hope", otherwise known as the Vader massacre theme. It's full of vocals.

Of course, you are right. I heard it dozens of times by now, but I keep imagining certain Dark Lord of the Sith and his horror show, I completely missed it, lol.

Sad to see all of the "it was an underwhelming score because I didn't leave the theatre humming the music" reviews around the interweb.

I was humming the Imperial/Jyn/Hope suites for days after my first viewing.

Thanks. Listening again, there are actually vocals on multiple tracks, which helps give the soundtrack that bridge-between-PT-and-OT feel.

I don't know the name but the theme right after Jyn and crew are speaking with Mon Mothma and they decide to go Rogue. I love it.

If I'm remembering correctly, that music on Yavin reminds me of the Phantom Menace soundtrack, as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan approach the hangar near the beginning of the movie. In both cases, the music provides a sense 'determination.'

They're not the same. But they remind me of each other somehow.

No , not the same but similar in that they both convey a feeling of a mission. Both have that kinda swell and bounce. If that makes sense.

Trivia: TPM has more music themes than all other Star Wars films.

I have to say I can't believe how much this soundtrack has grown on me. After the first viewing I thought it was a bit too subtle with not enough themes but I can't believe how wrong I was about it, especially since listening to the Star Wars oxygen episode. I have been listening to it a lot and found myself drawn to amongst others this track:-

There was something familiar about it but I couldn't put my finger on it. And then it hit me like a tonne of bricks yesterday. Compare it with:-

Well done Mr. Giacchino. Absolutely amazing,

I listened to Star Wars Oxygen today. They analyzed Rogue One's score and found Jyn Erso's theme in A New Hope.

I love Star Wars Oxygen! I can't wait for the next episode. I'm wondering if there are more motifs for characters that I haven't picked up on yet.

Here's a little something I picked up from listening to the soundtrack obsessively:

    4:48 to 4:51

    and

    1:00 to 1:05

(There could be more, but this was all I found.)

And then something we're all familiar with from ANH:

    3:16 to 3:35

Pretty cool, huh? I just wish I could remember what is happening in Rogue One at the point at which those little musical cues appear. I tried to pay attention last time I saw it but got distracted! :p It could just be a thematic cue, I guess--Rogue One is after all a movie about finding a way to destroy the Death Star.
