I saw it for a second time and enjoyed it more.

    The good

    • all the neat creatures. Worm lady, sabacc creatures, etc. A few on Dryden's ship seemed a little star treky to me though.

    • I was very happy with Alden's performance. I thought he looked awful in the trailer. Glad I was wrong.

    • The brief war sequence. And I thought rogue one was a gritty war flick. The little bit of time on mimban was intense.

    • The best chewy we've ever had.
    The bad

    • I didn't like L3. I didn't hate her, she had a few funny lines, but seemed to reference real life stuff too much.

    • I thought the spice mines and kessel run were a drag. I loved the imagery of the creature getting pulled into the maw, but otherwise though these were the weakest sequences in the series.

    • I thought solo keeping the name given to him by the empire, because he had no people, and later talking about his dad was dumb, but it didn't bother me too much.
    Missed oppurtunites

    • It felt emotionally disjointed. I wanted to love Rio, but he dies before doing much. Val was wasted. Beckett's deal was don't trust anyone, but doesn't have a reply when Han called him out for trusting Val.

    • The wookies should've been Chewies family, and Han should've chosen to help chewie free his people. Give Chewie an arc. Its already a big coincidence that he found wookie slaves, why not more specific wookie slaves.

I loved this character. Whats her name?

My favorite Chewie is the one from TFA. A lot of screen time, funny and heroic.

    Lady proxima.

I think Solo is the first movie were chewie did a lot of physical ass kicking. He's always had the rep of being super strong, but other than lifting lando up in the air in ESB, what do we see him do? Mostly just shooting a blaster. I liked his flying skills in TLJ too.

I'm still having a hard time accepting Han's Ability to speak Shyriiwook.
Yeah it kinda worked for the Story, but it could've been solved so much better.
Ehrenreich was a Surprise. I didn't know him prior to this Movie and i didn't expect much, but i have to admit he did a pretty alright job. And playing a Han Solo is a hell of a Job.

Because most people don't know how to separate a chracters from the actors.

I think most people who actually saw the movie enjoyed him enough. Crybaby fans are always the loudest.

Yep. So many people I know (friends, family, co-workers) just flat out refused to see the movie when it came out because Harrison wasn't in it. Alden was great. He wasn't a Harrison Ford look-alike, he just made the role his own and he brought it. I accepted it would be a new guy and a new take before I watched it...no different from a James Bond... or Obi-Wan Kenobi for that matter.

I agree, that moment took me out off the movie, I didn't like that it was played for a joke.

I liked Aden Ehrenreich's performance in Solo. I thought he did a really solid job.

Personally, if I were in charge of casting for Solo, I would've cast someone between the ages of 18-24 years old to play the younger Han Solo who was supposed to be 19-22. I believe Alden was 28-29 years old during Solo production and release. And yes, some movies pull off the character/actor age difference without anyone noticing.

I believe many people's problems with Alden as Han Solo may have been rooted in the fact that he looks the same age as Harrison Ford in ANH.

Basically, he just needed to be a little younger. Think Young Indiana Jones.

Because the Lord Harrison Ford played him earlier. We must bow down to Ford’s greatness.

Does he thought? Alden in Solo looked 5-10 younger, than Ford in ANH. It's just that he didn't look like a younger Ford, but hey.

'We should've had an actor who looked like Harrison Ford. It totally ruined the movie that we didn't.'

Yes. That there is the stupidest friggin' critique I hear about TV & film projects, and it is SO very prevalent! "The actor playing Lucy/Luna Lovegood/Tyrion isn't ugly enough"... "Gunslinger Roland can't be black"... "Harry Potter's eyes are green, not blue!!!"

I mean, what? People would litterally rather have lookalikes play their favorite characters than actual actors, and that boggles the mind something fierce.

Alden Ehrenreich was a fantastic Han Solo!

In fairness it's not played as just a joke. It serves as a way for Han to disarm Chewie and endear himself to him, as well as provide a way to communicate a plan without the guards above overhearing and understanding what it is.

But yes - it feels very much like a "Mary Sue" moment! Or should that be a "Gary Stu"?

At least a lot of Rey's abilities can be inferred from her upbringing on Jakku. But of all the languages Han could have picked up living on Coruscant, why on earth would the language of the Wookiees be one of them? We need that back story in a prequel now!

I of course meant Corellia and not Coruscant.

    I'll get my coat.
