Easy, the AvroCanada VZ-9AV Avrocar. Yes, a "flying saucer". Estimated maximum atltitude was 30,000 feet - it only got 3 feet off the ground. Estimated max speed of 300 mph was not achieved - actual was 30 mph!!!!

I was on TDY stationed at Paine Field in the late 90's and we got a private tour of the ME262 project facilities, and it was quite something to witness. They had (2) originals fully dismantled, and were using every piece for templates for their reproductions. One of the units belonged to the U.S. Navy (and is currently in the Naval Aviation Museum), which was loaned to the project in original, unrestored, and unairworthy condition under the agreement that it be returned fully restored to original condition.

Also on Paine during that same trip, we landed 6 helicopters about 200' from the "Midnight Express" B-52 where it sat for more than 20 years until the Museum of flight had room for it...where it is now.

I've never visited this museum, but I think that the Valkyrie is THE coolest set of wings in the place, and would LOVE to see it in person.

    Haha, that's wild!

Sometimes history is truly stranger and more interesting than fiction.
