This one Jedi at a time nonsense from the OT that people think makes sense is silly. After seeing Rogue One and how badly outmatched the rebellion was it makes zero sense for them to try and defeat the Empire or First Order with just one Jedi. The only reason the Republic won the Clone Wars is because of the existence of the Jedi Order and multiple Jedi. The Sith can probably function well 2 at time because they are generally more powerful fueled by the darkside but the good guys need help. I have always firmly been in the Finn should be a Jedi camp but now regardless of whether his story heads in that direction or not I am of the opinion that the Resistance which seems to be constantly near falling apart at any moment (like the Rebellion) needs more than 2 Jedi to defeat the first order. If this trilogy is about Rey that's fine but the end of this needs to see her or Luke or both establishing another Jedi order to combat the first order and the resurgence of any dark Jedi and Sith.

It seems to me that the reasons behind the numbers of Jedi are part and parcel of the entire story so far. And besides, the movies would not be particularly compelling if there were these God-like warriors that were there to instantly save the day. It works when either they are a) misguided, as in the prequels or b) scarce... because that way there's a story to tell and heroism to embrace. In Rogue One, the whole point was that there were no Jedi and they were completely outmatched.

We'll obviously have at least one Jedi in Ep. VIII, but I certainly don't wish for an army of them.

In the saga movies I'll be fine with whatever we end up with. I'm just following the story and have no special wishes, as long as they keep Jedi and Sith/Dark side users in the films.. The numbers of how many there are doesnt matter to me..

I've always thought that it was a somewhat ridiculous notion that ALL of the Jedi were exterminated during and after Order 66. The notion that only Yoda and Obi-wan survived seems pretty far fetched to me.

Considering that there were THOUSANDS of Jedi before the purge, and none of them were smart enough to dodge the Empire seems utterly preposterous.

I've always secretly hoped that if Luke (or Rey) were to revive the Order that many old masters with their secret apprentices would emerge from the shadows to rejoin the Order.

Of course you'll keep in mind that I will take anything that SW gives me (because...STAR WARS), but I'd like to see more Jedi...not an ARMY mind you, just more...but not just yet! Soon tho. :)

How do we know there aren't more?

The amount in AOTC was silly. As long as there aren't as many as that it will be Ok. But at the same time I like Jedi's to be more of a rarity.

For the next in the trilogy, I'd like to see more than one or two Jedi, as well.. we've just had that ( in the OT) and it continues to play the duplicity themes that some people criticize about EP7. I highly doubt we will get this though.

The need more Jedi is more likely to happen within the OT. as of right now we only get Luke as the only Jedi Knight we have.

True, I'm sure however Rey will be classed as one very quickly, and that's probably it for this Trilogy. Unless any of the New Jedi Order Luke was rebuilding with survived the destruction, I remember Han quoting as such on the m'Falcon in TFA.

I guess we have to hope for the Anthology movies, but even then Han Solo will not include any, nor a rumored Obi Wan film mainly due to the time frame. Could be a while till we see a group of Jedi/Sith fighting it out.

I think Luke was trying to build the Jedi back up but for right now we dont know if there are Jedi that he was able himself to knight or others(Kanan/Ezra/Ahsoka) to help. for now we only have him. I can see an anthology film prior to the PT. SITH vs Jedi. There is a thread about anthology films and I mention that A Solo/Fett movie would be better route for Disney to go away from the Jedi/Sith to showcase other storyarc's in the SW galaxy. R1 was okay to me, just doesnt have the feels of the actual SW Storyline.

I never found the Prequel numbers to be ridiculous, but I would say Luke's plan for his order would have been to make it more informal, connected with the living force, allowing marriage and other natural needs of beings, and keep it away from politics. Right the wrongs of the past. Avoid what made the Jedi an order, and try to create something that is truly worthy of the title of "Jedi". And to get there, you gotta start small. I hated the EU with so many Jedi and Sith after Luke's order gained many members very quickly. I much preferred a hidden, smaller group like the one in the Legacy comics.

Not really. Two Sith Lords rule the galaxy, and one of them is hunting the remaining Jedi down.

There were only 10,000 Jedi in the Order's prime, and much Jedi died during the Clone War. There are mere planets with billions and trillions of people, and thousands of star systems in TGFFA. That's not a silly amount of Jedi.

There should always be force sensitives being born. It's just that they need to be found and trained as Jedi. But I like the idea of there being a lot of force sensitives that aren't Jedi. I really think that Poe fits this description. Just look how he handles those tie fighters on Takodana. Their powers aren't honed, but they have superhuman agility, instincts and reflexes that allow them to outmatch most foes. I think Maz opened the door for this being that she is very force sensitive, but not a Jedi. Or eve Leia to a greater degree.

It seems like you're looking at it from an in-universe perspective and the question seems to be about storytelling.

I agree the Rebellion/Republic/Resistence would want as many Jedi as they could get. But do have lots of Jedi = the best way to use them and tell a story? I would argue no. I think having very few (2-3) Jedi makes them special and unique and ultimately more potent as a storytelling device. The PT had so many Jedi running around Lucas had to come up with a half-baked (ie - Stupide) prophecy and mediclorians to single Anakin out as special, vs Luke was special just because he could the Force.

Yeah, I don't think we need to stick with only 2 Jedi, but please don't shove any more than, say maybe 5, on screen at a time.
