I feel a big sense of déjà vu. I know you said these were posted a month ago, but I feel like I saw these a long time prior to that.

Extremely interested in it nonetheless. Um, confused as to how it could possibly fit in. By a sequel they mean Alien 5 basically, no? I have the Quadrilogy but I haven't watched 3 or 4 in forever, and thus can't remember what was going on with them.

But Ripley, if in the film, would have to be a clone right? Or could it possibly be a 2.5 but still count as a normal sequel? (just considering the concept art, which of course could have nothing to really do with the movie other than style)

I wonder what this means for the Prometheus sequel?

Wow. I wasn't aware of any of this. I have a touch of TFA induced tunnel vision it would seem.

That concept art is really impressive. The one with Ripley wearing a suicide bomb with her
thumb on the trigger, and Hicks once again sporting a pump shotgun, is awesome.

Although I'm sure a great movie can be made in his absence, it's too bad HR Giger is no longer with us.

I wonder what they'll do here. Either they have to cut Hicks and Newt from the original pitch, or completely retcon 3 and 4 out of existence. I know many would be happy with that, but I've always had a soft spot for both of those films, even if they don't come close to approaching the first 2 in term soft quality. They are unique, you have to give them that.

Variety (via BAD because I can't look up the originating link currently) says its unaffected by the news.

I like Prometheus...in theory. I've watched it 3 times now. Each time I go into it thinking I'm going to realize I really love it this time. Because I love the concepts and I love the look and feel of the universe. But each time I end up underwhelmed.

But judging from the stories of how the movie's pre-prod went down, its not surprising that it comes off a bit muddled. Classic story of a writer and a director coming from two angles and not meshing. Scott has his Alien prequel and Lindleoff has his Sci-Fi philosophilm. And they never really meshed. But this seems to be the curse of the Alien Franchise. Resurrection had the same writer vs director clash that ended up giving us glimpses of two great movies that just didn't fit together. And Alien 3 had the always dependable studio vs. director clash than managed to get a disappointing Alien movie out of David Fincher. Go figure.

But I'll never get sick of watching all 3. They are fascinating movies, even if they don't always succeed at what their creators were trying to achieve.

That's because it was...I loved it. I dig the Alien franchise, and am excited about the Engineers and what they ultimately represent. I can't wait for it all.

I really hope that, as that concept art suggests, this movie will ignore Alien 3 and Alien: Ressurection and go with a new timeline that leaves the ending to Aliens unmolested. I also like the nods to Prometheus in that art.

Neill Blomkamp is the right guy to direct this kind of movie. I see quite a few parallels between his career and that of Ridley Scott and James Cameron.

Now, if Twentieth Century Fox could sell the film rights to the Fantastic Four back to Marvel Studios and work out a deal to share the X-Men in the same vein as Sony is doing with Spider-Man, then I would never complain about the company ever again.

Sigourney looks great. While I also love Alien 3 and Resurrection, I agree that the first two stories do deserve a proper ending. They're a different animal.

If an Alien 5 is gonna be done, Blomkamp would be the best possible choice. While many people were let down by Elysium, I still think they can appreciate his talent with characters and unique visual style. I'm very excited for this.

Same here. It's far from flawless, but the characters are memorable, the effects are amazing, the tone is perfect, and the concepts used are brilliant. I can't wait for the sequel.

Sigourney Weaver is going to be in the film and she won't be a clone.

The article I red said that they did not at that time know if Hicks or Newt would be in the film. But they are going to retcon 3 and 4 out. It's a sequel to Alien and Aliens. It will take place after Aliens.

And yeah it says that the Prometheus sequel is still a go.

MSN I believe ran the article.

Alright, so set photos of Alien: Covenant have been unveiled. And things are looking good!

As it stands, Alien: Covenant is actually going to be a standard prequel to Alien as opposed to a story set in the same universe (like Prometheus). Whereas if Neil Blomkamp's movie (provided that it gets made, which will ride on the other movie doing well, and I certainly hope that it does), it will basically be a new Aliens movie. Standard horror versus action-horror.
