So I've been wanting to talk about this for a long time now & since Disney have a new canon I felt it to be an appriotrate discussion for us to play with.
Since TCW is still canon & (I think) mostly everything else before Disney purchased Lucasfilm is not. Is Qui Gon, Obi Wan, Anakin & Yoda the only (or known) four in the entire history of the Jedi Order that have been able to achieve the ability to retain their consciousness after physical death? (If no one know's why Qui Gon can't appear physically as a force ghost but only verbally please watch the Clone Wars TV series)

I only ask this just in case I may have missed something & you guys could maybe help point it out to me. Also, because being a force ghost doesn't really mean your dead & you can still retain your identity & commune with force sensitives. Would anyone like to see either of them make an appearance in the sequel trilogy as force ghosts? Or perhaps in a new TV series set in between each the seguel trilogy episodes? Let us know what you think :)

Only 2 others come to mind, Force Priestess from the final TCW arc, and The Father disappears ala obi-wan style at the end of the Mortis arc. the father clearly states he is not a jedi but I'm almost certain the priestess was indeed a jedi at one point.

Why exactly can't Qui-Gon manifest himself physically? I've seen TCW but never caught that.

Maul killed him before he had a chance to learn how.

Yeah Maul killed him before Qui Gon could complete the rest of his training. Since his training was only half completed & that your body has to pass on with you into the neither world of the force in order for you to become a visible force spirit. He could only 'appear' verbally & not physically as a force ghost. So when, Anakin, Yoda & Obi Wan appear to Luke at the end of ROTJ. Qui Gon would be present also, you just can't see him because of the reasons above. If you watch The Clone Wars Season 6 Episode 11 that will explain better :)

Palpatine was speaking of his master Darth Plagueis, who could supposedly prevent people from dying. Only those of the light side can become force ghosts, the Clone Wars arc explains it all.

The Old Republic Era itself is canon, so we know there is a prehistory to the galaxy and the Force etc. So i doubt that there were not Force Ghosts in the canonical past of the SW galaxy. None are a part of new canon as of now but if the eventually make (Force willing) new canon Old Republic material they will probably give some history of force ghosts.

    Anakin: Are you an angel?
    Queen Amidala: What?
Anakin: An angel. I've heard the deep space pilots talk about them. They live on the moons of Iego, I think. They're the most beautiful creatures in the universe.

When I saw TPM I thought Anakin was referring to Jedi ghosts when he asked if she was an angel. And maybe, "the moons of lego," was like a Jedi-heaven hangout . I know better now thanks to the fans ;)

Even if Qui-Gon had been able to make his presence fully known, I just cannot see him making the effort to appear before Luke, whom he had never met.

Since both Yoda and Obi-Wan had received further training from Qui-Gon, surely they would not have been able to visually appear before Luke? It is possible that in the three years between "Attack of the Clones", when his voice was heard by Yoda, and "Revenge of the Sith", Qui-Gon had learned to visually appear before ot hers.

Unless You Count The Sith Holocron Ezra Had In Rebels, Then Yeah, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin, And Yoda Are The Only Force Ghosts In Canon, And You Might Be Able To Make An Argument That The Whills And Bendu Are Force Ghosts, But (SPOILERS FOR THE LAST JEDI) Luke Will Probably Be A Force Ghost In Episode 9 Seeing That His Body Dissapeared, I Also Think That Yoda Might Have Taught Mace Windu How To Transition. I Know Luke Became A Force Ghost In Legends, But This Is Just Canon, So Your Probably Right For Now
